This entire movie is about a mother doing whatever it takes to provide for her children, but it is so well constructed that the word 'love' is never once used. Maternal love is never soapboxed, just purely demonstrated.
I love this movie. It hurts but kids have to grow up and have their own lives. Eventually they will have their own kids as well and they too will grow up to leave their parents one day. Such is the cycle of life as timeless as it is hopeful and tragic. This movie always leaves me heartbroken and covered in tears.
The most amazing moment of the commentary is when the daughter shows her wolf side and is vulnerable-“Say, I want to HUNT YOU”!!! I’m laughing out loud hard!! Hahaha
I just kinda hope Ame visit her mother once a week Since her house is just at the foot of the mountain Even the father can live double life as human and wolf
This movie is in my opinion Mamoru Hosoda's best movie (together with Summer Wars). It has everything, from being funny until deep drama and the characters are all great and charismatic. I didnt like BELLE at all and this movie reminds me again why....

when the boy, who was so restrained and gentle the whole movie, is the one who chooses the life of the wolf at the end it just breaks me... so good.
Don't worry, we all cried while watching this anime.
