I think the back story for Angelica give us a better understanding of how a 9yo can be such a mature singer and personality.
Her voice is is just a bonus, her smile is so addicting.
btw double pneumonia does have relevance to her audition because it affects her singing.. it leaves massive scars in your lungs and lowers your overall lung capacity, so it's pretty amazing that she's able to hold notes the way she does and hit notes the way she does. also, with transplant she probably has to take medication to suppress her immune system so that her body doesn't reject the transplant which can take a toll on the body.
I've watched her golden buzzer performance, definitely the girl on fire, regardless how small she is..

I totally agree on the sob stories! I often watch the performances on UA-cam because of this. I was so happy that I fell in love with Angelica's voice from her audition, before I discovered her back story.

Since receiving her kidney transplant when she was 6 yrs old, Angelica has been affiliated with The Children's Miracle Network and performs around the country at various functions and benefits. She has also sang the National Anthem and "America the Beautiful" at various sporting events and other functions. Check out Angelica's UA-cam channel to see other performances and covers. This little girl even plays the piano and sings opera.

Hi Dan, I feel the same way about sob stories ... unfortunately for Angelica this was very true. She was on ECMO life support for 12 days. People that go on this have a 100% chance of passing:-( After defeating death, she said she wanted to be a singer and her parents started her with singing lessons as they didn't know how long she would be with us. After 1.5 years on dialysis, she finally received her kidney from her mom. Notice this song she sings "Rise up"? That is exactly what she did, so she is actually singing her life story for the world to see. She also travels around the USofA raising money for Children Hospital so other kids can also have a fighting chance. Actually, she had a donation to the Children's Hospital in the end of 2017 for $100,000 (in her name). She is a shining example of humanity and hope and I personally hope she is here even after I pass! She deserves all the good things that should come to good people. BTW, nice reaction ... and I like your name ;-)

The thing about all these singing contests is that they normally dig up all stories about the contestants whether sob or just normal, to drum up more audience interest. If the contestant refuses to answer questions about their personal life and struggles he or she appears aloft and snobbish and the audience may not vote for him or her. Remember that after the audition, the fate of the contestants will depend on the audience's votes.
Her Mother is a Filipina and Her Father is Half Filipino and American.

Thank you for reacting to this Dan. Liked your reaction. In Angelica's case, the show need not have them fabricate any sob stories. She really went through a health scare and got her life threatened by the condition she was in as a good number of youtube videos dating so many years back have been documented about her ordeal in the hospital.

Oh I'm not denying she had issues. My problem with the show is that the production team are ruthless and dig up personal stories which some might want to keep private. For instance, my friend I spoke of. Her father had cancer (he's ok now though) years before she applied for X Factor. But the production team wanted to make a big deal of it, even wanting to interview her dad to talk about almost losing his family. She was also told what to say when meeting the judges which she refused.
I understand. The lengths they go to for ratings. I guess they know they can emotionally hook in viewers even more so with those stuff. It's not solely about the talent anymore.
sleep less 5 year old Angelica singing "Just Give Me a Reason" (Pink) is pretty amazing too. I am glad I know Angelica's backstory. To think the same lungs which developed the pneumonia which resulted in sepsis and kidney failure now allow her to sing so perfectly is proof of God's grace. I am also in awe of her parents for teaching her to have a giving spirit through her work with CMN. Her history also helps me understand where her maturity, confidence and stage presence comes from. The more I learn about this amazing child the more I want to support her dreams.

Angelica was placed on ECMO, a type of heart /lung bypass. It is very effective in infants but in pediatric patients is a last ditch attempt to save her life. Much more than a "health scare".
I respect your opinion Dan... Some contestants uses sob stories for a talent show...but if you will check the activities of Angelica for the past years... She is already doing charity work for the Children Miracle Network where she had her 2nd life....

I have to agree with you, the sob stories are bullshit. However, when there is so MUCH talent like this girl......the sob story is a MOOT point. She didn’t need it.....her talent speaks for itself!!
Angelica is amazing! You should react to Angelina Jordan. She is from Norway and she is VERY into Jazz music. She's tiny like angelica but her voice and old soul are mindblowing! She was on Norways got talent and won as well!

I encourage you to react to the music of Grace VanderWaal. Singing and playing only her own songs, she won the 2016 season of AGT. At the age of 12. Must be something special, right? Could you just react to the music, not the extra material they pack in before & after the performances? (No one has done that.) Her four original songs (audition, quarterfinal, semifinal & final) took just 8 minutes 34 seconds, but they launched a career. Since then she has published an EP and an album and four music videos, sold out a national tour, won awards, and finished 7th & 8th grades. (If it's not convenient to just do the music, go ahead and react to the four videos, packaging and all.) Enjoy!

Can I add another comment in defence of the back story. You are correct that it should have no relevance on the talent of the person but then what do you do in a case like Lorelei Monsegutu, a 14 year old girl born a dwarf and without arms, who has learnt to sing and plays the piano with her toes. Do we ban her from participating because she has an immediate advantage in the hearts of the audience and judges.

Angelica has Filipino-American ancestry.
Whilst I agree that the performers back story should have little bearing, but then the fact that the child is so cute should also be ignored. The fact is the back stories and the cuteness is what the viewing public want, lets not forget this is only a variety show dressed up as a talent contest. The exposure is what really matters. An example is Evie Clare, her story in full explains her final performance, which whilst not going to win, had America in tears. Also remember that two of the most successful singers from these shows never won, Jackie Evancho (US) and Connie Talbot (UK).
She can really sings before she enter The AGT she started already performing at thr age of 8 she's GOD giving voice amazing and incredeble girl and most is she is humble her performance ispowerful and deserving to be next superstar thanks.

Everyone has their opinion, but you'd hope they were based on at least some knowledge about the subject. Not expertise, but not total ignorance either.
If you had a clue as to the permanent, non-reversible effects of childhood renal failure you'd know why her "sob story is relevant to her audition". At 4, she probably shouldn't have survived.
Even so, I'll give you a head start on your research journey.
We'll start with stunted growth, which absolutely impacts the development of every system in the body, including vocal cords.
