It’s amazing how much I, as well as others, had to “ignore” the floating doctrine of the LDS church in order to stay in “the church”. Well, that ship is no longer afloat, it is taking on water and, for many, quickly sinking.
My membership raft lost all of its air in 2016.
You do a great job in presenting your podcast information.
    Thank you.

If nobody knows how much HF knows, how do they know that we don't know as much as HF? Also, how do they know that we've been told the "most important" things?
Ever notice how the smartest guy in a book is never "smarter" than the author?

I was laughing about the Mormon versions of bogames and how silly that sounds... Then i remember i grew up with a Settelers of Zarahemla game copying Settlers of Catan.😂
On of the tasks, loke building roads, was to build the temple. Which looked like a Mayan pyramid😅.
The asthetics of the game were actually nice.

Have you or would you appear in a Mormon stories podcast?

As for the sterile service that we give as members: don't forget the temple! There's nothing more sterile than service giving to dead people in a sterile environment. The dead don't complain. They don't ask for anything. You don't see them on the news, suffering. It's the best! You get to feel good about helping people, but without the complications of compassion and actually getting to know an individual! Yay!

OMG, you are right! It's a huge waste of time that allows people to check service off of their list without having to actually interact with anyone in need.

Wait, so the important stuff is only in the scriptures and only when declared by committee? What is the use of 10 hours of mind numbing talks 2x a year? We were told over and over the most recent conference talks were modern scripture. So is it not now?

Have you ever tried to explain to someone who has read the Book of Mormon that there's MORE doctrine? And then if they read the D&C, you have to tell them that there's still MORE doctrine. And to find that doctrine, they'll need to review 20 hours of talks each year. And not just this year's 20 hours, but all of them for the past 200 years. And if you go back far enough that there are contradictions, the newest stuff is the correct stuff. The old stuff was only correct back then. But you really need to make sure you have the very most recent mention. If you have a talk from 2002, it might be corrected by a talk in 2018. You'll need to study all of them in between to find what is currently true. And they'll need to find which things are mentioned a lot of general authorities or by several apostles vs just once by a Seventy. That's how you know it's doctrine vs opinion!
When all else fails, skip the scriptures and conference all together and go straight to where the most important truth is: The Handbook! 😂

"Dingbats in Wingbacks" would be a great title for a book.

Yes. Keep praying. Nothing will change but you will assume your personal strength and thoughts are god…rather than just you being strong.

My brother-in-law was the mastermind, and with a couple of friends produced a game back in the '90s called "Mormon trivia pursuit", lol.

I didn't have your experience with service. I've built an irrigation system for a California city. My fellow missionaries and I. I've re roofed a widow's home. Two Saturdays in a row in Florida heat. Church tithing paid for shingles and about 20 men gave about 16 hours EACH.
I've worked many times in a homeless shelter on my mission and since.
I spent 4 hours each week singing to and feeding severely handicapped kids.
3 to 5 other missionaries with me.
Amazing what you can do when you try.

I love that missionaries are doing more service! Long ago (or not so long ago), information traveled by words of mouth. Traditional missionary work made sense! But now, while information is readily available immediately and all the time, SERVICE is the way to do missionary work. People don't need information anymore. They need love and kindness.

I did not serve an 18 month mission. It would have been seen as disgraceful and an indicator that I couldn't secure a man. Since leaving the church I have done a lot more personal service where I actually interact with people. The sterile church service was just something I was thinking about lately.
