Hello friends… In my tiredness while making this video, I got the equation in the first lesson incorrect. Its meant to be Happiness = Reality - Expectation
Ah, sorry about the homesickness! It’s seems like there’s a number of people getting their bush fix on UA-cam from overseas - hope I’m doing it justice 🇿🇦 thank you very much 🙏🏼
In this hectic life we all can use a little more mindfulness. Together with the awesome footage you bring this very well. I think we can relate every time when we are going to the Kruger or another Park in South-Africa. As soon as we arrive, slowly our stress goes away. Being surrounded by beautiful Nature & Wildlife does that to us. Love it. 🥰
Soo good Byron ! Saw you on Safari Expert and was awesome to see you on this vlog, how epic. What a 3 days it must have been !!! Everytime I am in the bush I always find it SO spiritual. It's like my soul becomes alive - I actually feel WHOLE again. Everything else seems like a distraction, but once I am in the bush, and in the stillness and sereness awkens something in me It is my go-to place and happy place and I have travelled to 114 countries so far and NO place beats the bush. Thank you for the lessons you learned and sharing in the way you do - SO authentic and beautiful. LOVE your content. Keep it UP Jed
Woah, 114 countries and you still feel that way! Says a lot… I really believe that if we can take that state of mind from the wild into our everyday life, things can become a bit simpler and happier. Easier said than done though! Thanks Jed 👊🏼
What I have learned when ask by guides what do you want to see. I say, I am happy to see what the day brings. Be present in the moment. There definitely is a list of I have to want to see yet see what comes for the day and make the most of it. Be thankful for being able to enjoy those special moment. The memories are worth every opportunity. Good lessons.
As a former guide, I can tell you that is the best answer to give. With no energy of expectations everything becomes simpler and flows in a fantastic way. Funny thing is, often that’s when the ‘more special’ things show up. And I found the opposite would happen when someone would insist on focusing on something and ignoring the rest… Thanks again for watching
Your analogies resonate with me as you verbalize my own experiences in the bush and life in general. Always keen to hear your views....would be better to hear it around a fire or even inside an awesome hide!
This makes me so happy to hear! Sounds like you’re really in touch with nature’s wisdom… and I agree, will try filming more of these observations out there in the wild going forward 👍🏼 thanks again for watching and sharing great feedback
Thanks for your philosophical video. While watching it I remembered a visit that I made to the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park some years ago. I was travelling by myself and one very hot afternoon I found myself at a waterhole north of the Nossob Camp. There was only one other vehicle there and it also had only a single occupant. It was desperately hot and there was no shade but what kept us there were the beautiful Bateleur Eagles taking off and landing at the water hole. It was a wonderful opportunity for me to practice taking photos of the birds flying. After several hours it was time to return to Nossob when I got there I went to the service station to fill up with petrol. While there I got talking to the guy who had been in the other vehicle. We were both delighted with the sights that we had seen that afternoon and when I said that it was a pity that it was so hot his reply really struck a chord with me. He said that if it were easy, everyone would do it. I have never forgotten his wise words.
Wow! That sounds like a memorable day. Its moments like that which stick with you forever like you said. It’s such a simple idea but it’s often the simple ones that ring truest, right? Also hearing about those bateleurs makes me want to get to Kgalagadi!
This is a really nice message. I literally wrote in my notes yesterday ‘Try to learn that not all observations have to feel so existential’. It’s hard though!
Hi Byron, Wow what an amazing video and lesson. The quality of your videos are just a notch higher than the rest. Well done. I am subscribed and maybe we must get together sometime, I would love to learn more about your video production techniques. Keep going with your good video productions. Raymond
Fantastic trip. And those reflections are insane. Such a bucket list item I want to do. What settings do you use on your canon? Do you shoot with a custom setup, manual? Auto? I have a canon and can’t seem to get it as clean as your shot. Great video!
Thank you. Highly recommended a visit if you can one day. In simple, I’m not doing anything out of the ordinary - for video I shoot manually, keeping my ISO as low as possible while keeping the shutter at a high enough speed to keep things smooth. Aperture will vary depending on a lot but usually as open as possible. For photos it’s a similar concept and I shoot in Aperture mode. Hope that helps!

Thanks so much, Raymond. I’m sure we could do that at some point, although I’m certainly no expert! Cheers
