MoogerFooger FreqBox MF107 vs VST // Hardware Vs Software Comparison Demo

- "Well hellow there!" is what I thought to myself, when @MoogSynthesizers recently announced their whole new versions of software MoogerFooger VST's. You see, I'm a big fan of their hardware. I've got pretty much all of them and I dig their design, largeness, functionality, history and not least .... that low, down dirty, angry yet gooey and juicy sound. BUT Enough pontificating! This video is in fact a scientific, deep dive, quantifiable analysis study.... comparing the hardware Freqbox MF107 to the new MoogerFooger VST version. After watching this video, we will be able to unequivocally say which is better than the other! AND NOT only settle the whole analog vs. digital debate. But even know empirically whether light, matter and energy of the entire universe is constituted of waves or particles.
No right.... It's just a completely subjective demo of a guitar pedal, the FreqBox MF107 vs it's new VST software version.
.... So let us all take deep breaths in the comments section folks.
Anyway.... I got these VSTs sponsored by @Gear4musicSynthsTech

I'll be doing the other MoogerFoogers in other videos. It's gonna be a bunch of fun.

Oh I was hoping the VST sounded much more closely to the hardware but in this case the hardware sounds far better that the VST. Thank you for this interesting comparison!
Thanks so much for doing these comparisons Martin! 👍👍
Sure thing and 🙏
Oh my hardware is way cooler. Just rips your head off.
Indeedy it does.... I gotta admit that I'm a little relieved that I prefer the hardware still😅 eventhough the VST's have their place
Would love to see you make a video on freqbox. It’s fun, but not very musical - in my hands at least! Keep thinking maybe I’m missing something so kept hold of it.
I compared my Clusterflux with the vst , night and day difference. Plug-in was a pale imitation.
I understand that.... Still think I'll find some use for the plugin tho😉
@@MartinYamMoller same here, plug-ins still very useful to me. Very flexible!
nice. i've got the murf (one of my favorite things). haven't managed an A/B yet, but I just can't imagine the magic is there.
I like the software, but in your demo it doesn't touch the real things. It sounds like a vst.
While they doesn't sound very similar I thought that the VST sounded a bit more musical and useable.
That is exactly why I did this demo, so you can listen and hear it for yourself.... while it's fun to say "this is better than that" and "hrumpf ANALOG!" All that is nonsense. It's whatever you prefer right?
_Mange tak_ for making the demo Martin
@@MartinYamMoller whoops. Totally missed your response. You're totally right! Also in rereading my original comment, I really ought to proofread things more carefully. "While they doesn't sound very similar" 🙄😱😳
love you vids!
Round 1 hardware
I gotta agree... Then again I am very hardware biased🤩....and the FreqBox is a very unique fx.... But let's see how the other MoogerFooger fare
So sad that moog killed off the hardware moogerfoogers 😔 I'm sure Behringer is getting ready for a grand feast on moogs discontinued hardware products!
Amazing video...super entertaining and informative! Thanks for making this!
Thanks a lot, good to know. I was actually unsure if this informal and loose style would be interesting enough to watch? I was considering a 'No Talking Demo' with just a/b on various sound sources. But perhaps a bit boring?
@@MartinYamMoller nope, this was actually perfect...like you found the right balance between informative and entertaining bits! I liked it a lot, actually!
Drive knob on the hardware is the major difference to my ears. I don't turn on a computer anymore when I play.
👍
Maybe match the dive knobs and gain stage them to match same level going in. Wish they would re release them in a euro rack suitcase.
sure... I try to do that later in the video. But this isn't really that kinda analysis video. More just trying it out and listening to how it sounds. Though, of course psychoacustically we tend to like louder sounds.... I'll try to match gain more closely in future videos👍
Not sure what difference it would make, but the drive seems to be up 50% on vst, vs 0% on hard @1:30 at the beginning of the comparison.
yeah the drive knobs behaves very differently between the vst and the hardware
@@MartinYamMoller dang. ig i gotta hunt the hardware down *sigh*
The hardware sounds like a new sound is created the VST sounds like the dry is being mixed more
i get a similar feeling. It might also be that i just didn't turn the mix knob up fully on the VST😅 but it was like the fx and dry sound on the vst didn't integrate in the same way on the hardware
Why is your screen on the ceiling? 😂
When you run out of desktop space then you gotta build up
The software sounds fizzy and washed out. Hardware is much more solid and alive.
Yeah... I kinda like both
🤦♂️
🤔
@@MartinYamMoller plugin not even close. I expected high standarts when I saw logo Moog
Lol those don't sound even close.
