It's a difficult decision at the end of the day. I believe the closest 2 bands were to each other was 2019 btwn Roosevelt and Dillard. Osceola, Newark, and honestly even Agoura really sounded like they could've won it all this year, so this is in my opinion the closest the top 3 bands have been to each other.
I listened to Newark and it should not have been… these cats outplayed them and were much deeper in the pocket. But you know what they say about everybody having an opinion.
Technically, none have to be Ellington. They have a catalog of songs that get added each year. 2 must be from the former catalog, and one must be from the new songs getting added. So you don't necessarily even need to play an Ellington Tune.
These cats were much more in the pocket than Newark. Not sure how close they came to being in first. You know what they say about everybodyhaving an opinion.
Watched this during class, coolest cats I’ve ever heard live

I love seeing these young kids enjoy swinging. It's almost a lost art.
Music like this keeps me alive. It's a great job, guys! Thank you ❤
Possibly the best EE performance ever. Up there with AMP in 2013 and Dillard in 2011.
@@mooselife769second Newark academy got first
That trumpet solo on blues to be there is killerrr, the stank faces in the rest of the band fit the energy perfectly 🙂↕️
This band got shafted, I don’t understand how they didn’t win their third in a row.
Maybe for starting with something not by Ellington?
Just saying/asking.
@@clw4430wdym??? so many bands have done it before
