I think he's based State side, the accent is to sound distinguished :) It took me a few days to find out VICE had it on YT, they put the first episode of each Dark Side season for free too. Might have to get dodgy to find the rest of Tales.

It was, but only because we had the suspension of disbelief. Even after Vince exposed everything and veterans were making the first "shoot" interviews - we still _believed_ in Stone Cold and The Rock Much like we can "believe" in a movie star for 90 mins then go home. I really enjoyed it. I would catch Memphis randomly...then later on I got a bunch of old Memphis shows in a tape trade I did and that caught me up on that territory.
If anybody wants to watch it you can purchase the entire 10 Episodes or individuals Episodes. I bought the whole season but I also rewatched some of them for free on UA-cam.
Great show. I haven’t seen the episodes list, I am really hoping they do some episodes on the lesser known territories like Honolulu, Maritimes, Buffalo, etc.
My wife and I grew up in opposite ends of Kentucky that were part of the Memphis territory. We both watched TFTT on UA-cam and loved it. I began watching Memphis wrestling the weekend they aired Handsome Jimmy Valiant breaking the Coke bottle over Lawler's head. I was hooked on wrestling for life. Loved hearing the Memphis stories, but I have two critiques: 1) They should have had Dundee there. He was a huge part of Memphis wrestling. 2) Way too many commercials for Tales From The Territories during the Tales From The Territories show. You don't have to give me so many reminders to watch the show WHILE I'M WATCHING THE SHOW. I would not have minded them selling additional ad space to other advertisers or for other Vice shows or a teaser for the next show, but this advertising was pointless. Or, better yet, give me another story from the wrestlers!
Bill Dundee's health may have been an issue. I heard an interview where someone commented about his health issues. You are right though, it would have been great to see him on the program
Yep, too bad it wasn't created before Lance Russell passed and Bill was missed. Still a great show, lot of fond memories growing up on Memphis. I started about mid 1980.
My favorite parts of that show . El sucio Dutch Mantell putting that drum like a Hat🥁 over that guys head and the other wrestler collecting the eye out of the guys face pretty pace full stuff ..
got a chance to see this episode. some pretty good stuff there. i liked how the roundtable just kept busting up with all these ridiculous stories. the jimmy hart dart story was my personal favorite. the eye gouge one was pretty gruesome. i keep thinking about that Hansen/Vader match in Japan where Hansen potato'd Vader's eyeball out when i hear about those kinds of things in wrestling. really great stories from these guys. wish i could've gotten memphis growing up. i only got to see USWA as it was dying out after WCCW got bought out so it felt a bit sad. but i got to see some future stars like Austin and Jeff Jarrett get their start there. it was interesting hearing Dutch's take on the territories vs what the WWF was doing back in the day. My first exposure to wrestling was the WWF. So my 2nd promotion was this spot on the non-standard TV in California called CCW. This promotion just looked awful. Wrestling felt bad, it felt sloppy, looked cheaply produced with smaller arenas, no names (although I did see Snuka eventually make it), tons of blood but bad promos. I think one venue looked to be at some night club lounge and there were a bunch of old people in the audience, which could've been a bingo parlor for all i know. And the fans would just get on the case of the wrestlers because they knew they weren't getting the top stars as the WWF was just conquering the TV waves and getting bigger through mainstream culture. that might've been on the lower end of the spectrum as far as territories were concerned because eventually i did discover WCCW and the NWA. WCCW was better in that the crowds were bigger than CCW and the fans were pretty rabid. First saw the Von Erichs vs Chris Adams/Gino Hernandez in a hair vs hair match. Pretty exciting match for the day and the crowd convinced me to continue watching. The rest of their programming was really hit and miss but occasionally they'd have some interesting people come by like Bruiser Brody, One Man Gang, Rick Rude, etc. And the NWA pretty much dragged me into the grittier side of wrestling since the last segments were always hot and their '86 period in my opinion was one of the hottest non-WWF/E periods in wrestling ever. It always felt big time especially the main event and the crowds were rabid along with crazy angles like Corny sticking Baby Doll with the racket, Ricky Morton's nose being broken, Magnum TA smashing the title against Bob Geigel's head, etc. They weren't produced as top notch as the WWF but the atmosphere was electric so I ignored that.
Great trip down memory lane for those of us raised on Memphis wrasslin. If you weren't there you can't understand how popular Memphis wrasslin was and how much people hated Jimmy Hart. We still laugh about how much we hated that wimp.
This is an honest question. Are the stories they were telling ACTUALLY literally true or are they somewhat embellished because the old timers (of which crowd I consider myself) like to keep a measure of kayfabe in all their stories? It's just hard for me to believe that a guy chased Jimmy Hart around town threatening to kill him and didn't face any ramifications for that. I mean I know that he got SUPER heat, as all the heels did in the southern territories, but that just seems a little bit of a stretch. Also the Jerry Jarrett story just seems insanely embellished as well. Just curious is all.
The eye story might have been embellished, but crazy fan interactions were a thing back in those days. Even nowadays, you can find stories of wrestlers in Mexico punching unruly fans or the crowd trying to attack a heel.
I had the same question about the plant. U no what gave it away to me was DUTCH punching him and the way the guy sold. Dutch punch was great and the guy couldn't of sold it any better He sold it so good I said he has to be a plant. Who was it, he has to be a worker
