What do you mean when you say you "put everything the Lonestar had on the Limited"? I'm reading that as saying you optioned it out like a Lonestar except for the badging - BRP has either one or two configurations they are building for the Limited and Lonestar package units they are building. Dealer can mod it, but you can't custom order from the factory. You aint forgettin nothin on the build difference, it comes down to 1) Black exterior option 2) rock sliders 3) JL Roof 4)Texas worship badging and upholstery. JL and ARC Audio have made every car audio amp I've purchased since Audiobahn quit makin that 2400 watt monoblock back in the mid 2000s!! You won't find a better company, but like pretty much every licensing agreement with a vehicle manufacturer, the OEM "JL" components are trash, in my opinion, and I say that as someone who has Focal Utopia components in my 2004 F-250 feed truck - but also as someone who can look at the interior shape and materials and realize that there is a reason companies like Pyle are leading the pack on UTV Audio. You'll never get truly good sound quality in a square glass and plastic cab, but just to make that Lone Star roof sound halfway decent is gonna really require you to swap out about every speaker in it, run new amps, and then your at $4-5k on the option and 2-3k to make it sound like its worth the $5,000 you spent in the first place. I waited for a year on a LoneStar, realized exactly what that price difference got me as far as desireable components (roof, color, rock sliders) versus what I would have to spend to strip off all the badging and upholstery with the Texas flags and "LONESTAR" logo - that shit don't play in Oklahoma. They may as well be marketing the machine in Western Canada as the "Edmonton Oilers Ultimate" edition or something, then trying to figure out why they aren't as popular in Calgary as they are in BC. But anyway, my point was after that year wait on the lonestar my dealer got in a Limited in the Mossy Oak that looked way better, except for the roof , and for $7,000USD less? Yeah boss head unit Then I’m installing nicer speakers. Maybe a sub also. To install speakers in the rear you need extension brackets to miss the bar hidden beneath roof liner.
You mean facing the back seats on the roof? or like - built into the back of the front bench firing rearward? A second row of headliner mounted speakers for the back row passengers would be a cinch, mounting to a seating surface would be problems from cost, to build, to acoustics of the final product.
Those wires just supply the current needed so you can retip or direct wire them. I’d recommend getting a connector matching for future purposes. On the light bar mounting just pilot a hole in your roof and black silicone the hole after. They also make black plugs that many paintless dent repair guys use. Just a side thought I’ve never had much luck with light bars on the roof. They tend to hit tree limbs and such. Mount it as flush to your roof face as possible so nothing is above roof line. Rear speakers 🔊

For the rear speakers to mount you need a speaker pod and bracket.

Scroll down on that post you will find a guy making them.

Add a powered sub like this
amzn.to/3XIs7oG
If you plan to submerge your defender over the seats you will need a much higher quality sealed sub and amp. This would just in your budget.
So you would go with the boss head unit and 2 alpine 6.5. I wonder how much harder it would be to install the 2 rear 6.5s in the back seat
Yeah boss head unit
Then I’m installing nicer speakers.
What rear view mirror is that?
amzn.to/46jvnf3
I would do something like this though now

Also I’m gonna install a light bar up top on front of machine. How do you run wire into cab. I was gonna wire it to head unit? Suggestions?
Those wires just supply the current needed so you can retip or direct wire them. I’d recommend getting a connector matching for future purposes.
On the light bar mounting just pilot a hole in your roof and black silicone the hole after. They also make black plugs that many paintless dent repair guys use.
Just a side thought I’ve never had much luck with light bars on the roof. They tend to hit tree limbs and such. Mount it as flush to your roof face as possible so nothing is above roof line.
Hopefully this helps buddy
So I’m wanting to use the star button on head unit to turn on light bar. I just direct wire the led wire to the aux wire, correct?
@@jeffshepherd629 yes.
I would put a fuse between the light bar and the Red/Violet auxiliary power just to be safe.
The manual says the radio has no internal relay
I wish you would do a video on how to install the rear speakers in the defender max limited.
I’m going to do a full install on our 23 with rear speakers
@@americandream_89 Are you buys the Alping 6.5 like in the above link you provided
Could you post the model number of the boss head unit?
Thanks
Does it pick up local channels without an external antenna or have you installed one?
After watching your video it has helped me make up my mind and I ordered the Boss head unit. I like that I can install a camera and see it with a touch of a button.
Thanks for the content
Glad to help buddy.
In my area it works great. I haven’t installed any external antennas yet. But I live about 8-10 minutes from town. I’ll give a update after I get further away. It’s a nice unit and has great options. It’s a little bit of a challenge to figure out presents but if you have trouble let me know.
I’m Installing mine and I noticed you may have connected your (red) accessory wire?
@@98xjroks I connected the red and yellow to the same positive lead behind stereo
That was all the way up? Is that loud enough while riding?
We can hear it fine while riding. This video wasn’t really too show sound quality of a cheap speaker setup. It’s more to show that for sub $300 you can sound better than the factory $900 and have a way better head unit. If you really want it to sound good get 4 6.5 JL audio marine speakers with a small 4 way amp. Then add a sub.
@@americandream_89 thanks man think I’m going to go that route
@@BIGSCOTTY732 we have a 23 on order. I plan to do a full system in it. I’ll post a video once done.
Did you have an antenna installed???
I live 7min from several radio stations. I personally never needed it. So didn’t
You say you don't need one but, may I ask what would you recommend? I don't have a radio in mine period so I was basically starting from scratch. I'm thinking about purchasing this unit based upon your installment. Do you still recommend it?

I would 100% recommend this stereo. It works and functions perfect. I’ve put this unit and one other from boss in several of our SxS and other products. Not one issue yet.
@masshultzy6449
You could put this behind stereo in headliner
amzn.to/3RocP8T
Thank you! That is very kind of you to respond so quickly and generously...I will most likely purchase this unit soon. Thanks for the video.@@americandream_89
Thanks!
Yo. Question. So I have my light bar mounted. I’m wanting to power the light bar using auxiliary wire on the head unit. My question is the led light switch that came with light has a blue, black and white wire. Would the white be ground? And the blue and black both power? Do I attach the black and blue wire together with the auxiliary wire? Thanks
I would hate to say it without seeing wiring schematic on the light bar. But in my experience, the black wire has always been ground. The white wire has always been power. And whatever other color, they include has been a secondary ground.
So from the from left to the right black wire, yellow, red???? Dont believe I saw that?
Could you reconstruct that question? I couldn’t make out what you asked
@@americandream_89 I thought I heard you say you were going to show how you wired the black red and yellow wires into the bus bar... I was curious just to speed my install process up.
@@jzzamrzla black wire is ground. Put the red and yellow to the same post that already has a positive wired to it.
Looks like this radio cannot bring in any stations? Kind of useless.
It brings in all our local channels in

Sounds distorted
I haven’t tried to tune it. It’s already better than the factory system they offer that has 4” speakers. Have you heard one?
Just wanted to make a video to help people see what they can get for $250 vs $1000. Along with how to install what ever they want.
