Dick Cavett has been nominated for eleven Emmy awards (the most recent in 2012 for the HBO special, Mel Brooks and Dick Cavett Together Again), and won three. Spanning five decades, Dick Cavett’s television career has defined excellence in the interview format. He started at ABC in 1968, and also enjoyed success on PBS, USA, and CNBC.
His most recent television successes were the September 2014 PBS special, Dick Cavett’s Watergate, followed April 2015 by Dick Cavett’s Vietnam. He has appeared in movies, tv specials, tv commercials, and several Broadway plays. He starred in an off-Broadway production ofHellman v. McCarthy in 2014 and reprised the role at Theatre 40 in LA February 2015.
Cavett has published four books beginning with Cavett (1974) and Eye on Cavett (1983), co-authored with Christopher Porterfield. His two recent books -- Talk Show: Confrontations, Pointed Commentary, and Off-Screen Secrets (2010) and Brief Encounters: Conversations, Magic moments, and Assorted Hijinks(October 2014) are both collections of his online opinion column, written for The New York Times since 2007. Additionally, he has written for The New Yorker, TV Guide, Vanity Fair, and elsewhere.

Jeanne was a master actress of the 'New Wave' cinema which I studied for my French 'A' Level in 1977. She speaks without the usual French inflections. A very underrated actress I think. RIP

You are wrong. Jeanne Moreau was a never underrated, never. Always very active in her work, and deeply respected. Her interviews are so bright, I always followed her. Strong personality.
This is like going on a date with someone you’ve never really met and have nothing in common with.

I find that most French actors don't really care about 'scripts', they seem to 'trust' directors more. I mean Jean-Louis Trintignant in his early days was like that too.
My desktop wallpaper of choice, for quite some time now, has been that indelible image of Jeanne Moreau wandering about in the rain, with the only company of the loneliest trumpet sound you will ever hear, as someone once put it.

Ah, yes. Elevator to the Gallows. The bit with Jeanne walking amidst the Paris rain to Miles, searching for her lover, is one of my best sequences of all film. And, Jeanne is one of my all time favorite actresses, from any country, from anytime. She is a rare beauty with such depth, intelligence, and poetry. What a woman. I would've given anything to have met her. Just to watch her walk. In the rain.
Dick is smitten as a kitten avec la femme! She has an innate sensual quality few women possess. As well as acting, she was a writer, producer, director and accomplished singer. A Renaissance woman. I also like her reference to the " magic circle. " Another of my favorite actors, Jack Lemmon, was known to have said before a scene, " It's MAGIC time! " This fits so well. "magic circle," she probably was into High Magick, and wanted to talk about that. there's that direct indirect, and somtimes very literal link between filmmaking and Magick.
La beauté, la classe
Many actors are by-lingual, Jeanie Moreau was one of the many beautiful actors we grew up with. But the clip I just watched about Lee Marvin's Academy Award for "Cat Biliou" and their interview was a treasure. Lee Marvin was so versatile and could play any part. Paint you Wagon was another treasure and I still love his ""Born under a wandering Star". They were true actors not today's puffed up Tom Cruises. Thanks for the memories.

I love how she says "once". And I don't mean to diminish Jeanne Moreau in this video, but what Lee Marvin says about reading scripts: "either there's something wrong with the script, or something wrong within *you* ..." that's absolutely brilliant and illuminating

Ascenseur pour l'échafaud (1958), Jules et Jim (1962) ou bien Viva Maria (1965) et bien d'autres sont des films où l'on peut voir cette fascinente et séductrice actrice encore plus jeune que dans cette émission.Quant à son anglais, elle a joué dans quatre films du génial Orson Welles dont le procès (1962) et Falstaff (1965) dans lesquels elle parlait très bien l'anglais (pas de l'appris par cœur pour l'occasion) et où sa voix n'était pas du tout rauque.

have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were a part of the main cast?

Marilu Henner, best known for her role as Elaine Nardo on the TV show Taxi, only ever had to read a script once. From there she could not only repeat her lines verbatim years later, but often prompted other actors on the set who'd forgotten their own lines. This is because she's one of about a dozen people in the world proven to have total recall of every moment of her post-infancy waking life.

@@valerieyates1427 Valerie, I have a cousin who is a heavy smoker she's 60yrs old and beautiful, two months ago she found out she had cancer of the tongue and throat and now has only months to live and has to feed herself through the stomach. Valerie if you smoke , give it up now otherwise you will knock years of your life.

Must google her. Was extremely beautiful in the 50s and 60s, especially her mouth. Truffaut and louis malle were her directors. Most famous for that film with the great actor maurice ronet.
