- Meet some of the folks who have decided to make Portugal home. You all know that we are trying to decide whether we will want to make this country our home and we thought no better way to investigate the pros and cons than to talk to people who have already done it.

This was an excellent discussion. There was so much information and your guests were so engaging .
please give a heartfelt thanks to them for their time and information.
Thank you for the ready to retire toolkit we will be making good use of it to get things in order.
P.S.- you've got two new subscribers here.
God bless you and your family.
Yaasss, we are so happy that the information is helpful. There will be follow-up emails to supplement the toolkit. Look forward to seeing you out here in these international streets! 😁
Great discussion all. I've been in Lisbon for 1.5 years now and I love living here. The quality of life, environment, fresh food, fresh air, fitness culture, the "unbothered" life and the peace, most of all, are why I'm here. 💜
Thank you, we feel the same way! Hope to meet you when we return.
Tell me more about the fitness culture?
LOVED THIS Halisi & Ric;---learned a great deal about the insights of Portugal's way of life, culture, its people, its ex-pats, ....fantastic! Nice job my friends!
Hey Karen, thank you for watching and for all of the support. We have met some AMAZING people - girlfriend, these two are typical of the community. Just good peeps all the way around.
Recently found your channel on UA-cam and am enjoying all the information about Portugal. I’m reading and watching everything I can find about living there. And I have subscribed! Thanks so much!
Welcome and thank you for watching. We are interviewing someone who has been here for a long time this Sunday. Are there specific questions that you would like to know?
@@OurBlackUtopia Thanks so much for asking. I have three young kids, so if they have any experience with raising kids in Portugal, that would be great to know. Schools, activities, etc. I'm always interested to know more about the healthcare system as well. Looking forward to more videos!
Just found this video currently living in Ecuador researching Portugal
Hey Derek, We've come along way since then...Look througu the All things Portugal playlist: ua-cam.com/video/0srQ6fyhSPE/v-deo.html&pp=gAQB
This is so rich in information/insights! Phenomenal interview and guests! Thank you so much for this content!❤👍🏾
Our pleasure and thank you for watching. We will be interviewing some others very soon.
I missed the "live" while on a cruise to Bermuda. Watching the replay from Silver Spring, Maryland! Wahoo, Twanna! Can't wait to visit Portugal. Thanks for sharing your stories!
Well I'd miss it too for a cruise to Bermuda! We have some friends there who are in one of our FIRE cohorts. Twanna is amazing, lots of folks leaving the DC area...
I just viewed this last night and I watched, enjoyed and was inspired by every minute of it!! I'm currently retired in Florida from 20+ yrs in Atlanta. I came to Florida because of the weather and my sister was here. However, my sister accepted a coveted position in North Carolina in 2019 and I survived the covid scare and the 2020 election without family or "my tribe!!" Ive always had a healthy amount of concern for my safety however, after viewing the insurrection on Jan 6th, I knew in my heart and soul, I'd had enough of holding out hope that "all men are created equal"(in America). Enough Already!!🤬. It is very important for me to peacefully live my life appreciating nature, good people and good times while being my best and highest self! Listening to each of you talk about how everyone (black and white, Portuguese and Expats from various countries) being kind, appreciating/enjoying life and giving of themselves and information to assist others... brought tears to my eyes and served as a confirmation that I can manifest my hopes and dreams! I have a trip planned to Portugal in October and I look forward to being a part of "our" community and a respected/respectable member in the community where I reside with the wonderful people of Portugal!
MY QUESTION: Have any of you heard or experienced an earthquake or trimmer in Portugal? Living in a state with hurricanes, I know weather reporting can sensationalize an event. Just interested in hearing from you if you have info on the subject.....it won't change my mind about the country. I agree with all of you...each one of you (including Our Rich Journey couple) are the COOLEST PEOPLE and I'm so happy, I found you thru UA-cam!!!
To feel an earthquake is a relatively rare event in continental Portugal, however they do exist, and in every century there have been a few that did damage somewhere in Portugal. Lisbon is a particular area at risk of seismic activity.
@@ppietrap3876 Thank you for the info
N.R. - don't we have the coolest subscribers? Thank you @ppietra p for answering something that I could not. I know that there was a "great earthquake" several hundred years ago, but other than that...🤔? I grew up in So. Cal so earthquakes don't scare me (though they should LMAO)
As far as January 6 - that was it for me to. And just to re-affirm what was said in the video. Today, Ric and I got lost (as usual) and an older lady went out of her way to ask me if we needed help...in Portuguese. (Ajuda in Portuguese, Ayuda in Spanish - so I finally understood). She walked with us for at least 10 minutes to help us find our way through the maze that is Old Town Coimbra. As you know there is racism everywhere, but overall we do feel accepted and welcomed here in Portugal. I'll take a side-ways glance over lethal racism everyday of the week. We are happy that you're taking the leap!
@@OurBlackUtopia you’re welcome! And yes, I do believe that Portugal is nothing like California, though you can always go to the Azores if you enjoy frequent earthquakes.
What was your opinion of Coimbra? I was born there, feel free to say any bad thing :), I sure would have my share of criticisms :). Hope that at least it was time well spent.
so glad to have found you and this community, retired in Berkeley, CA looking forward to raising my living-abroad money
WELCOME WELCOME!! Thank you for watching. Did you get our Move Abroad Toolkit? bit.ly/moveabroadtoolkit - this can help you get your plan together. Let us know how else we can help. Living in Lisbon is a dream come true for us.
There’s no Walmart or target but supermarkets like continente or jumbo will have everything you need, in a smaller scale. Everything in Portugal is smaller…also crime.
Thank you for watching! We didn't see a Jumbo, though we did go into a smaller Continente. Target and Walmart are ridiculous and we always leave spending more money then we should. LOL
Regarding taxes, it's a complicated issue and I highly recommend seeking professional tax advice . There are tax treaties between US and Portugal which if you pay taxes in one country, the other country will give you credit for those taxes. You should not have to pay double taxes. Also, NHR status may not be beneficial for all situations, it depends on what type of income you will be receiving and if income is being generated from US or Portugal. You need a professional that has experience with both US and Portuguese taxes. You can probably get recommendations from the different expat groups in Portugal
Thank you as always, we still have some homework to do. But we will definitely get an expert on for our US immigrants and wanna-be immigrants.
Loving your content! Taking a birthday/scouting trip to Lisbon in October. Not ready to take the plunge…yet but, it’s definitely under consideration
Have you joined the Black in Portugal FB Group and also the POC in Portugal? We are more active on the Black in Portugal group and because of that already had folks in place that wanted to meet up for coffee or a meal. Let us know what you think this fall.
Great information and discussion. I appreciate how much detail you guys went into on the expat experience. One small critique is do we really need Tawana injecting politics into the conversation? All black folks don't agree with the freaky-deaky beliefs of the political left. A little presumptuous to think we all are the same politically just because we are black....
Thanks for watching! Twanna's business is interconnected to politics so... No presumptions, but it's hard to untwine what you do for a living when talking about life. Peace and Love - Halisi & Ric
Thank you! I enjoyed it. (:
Glad you enjoyed it! - thank you for watching, Candace!
Missed the LIVE! but once again wonderful!!! I’m still in Md & my former home was in Silver Spring.☺️
Thank you so much for watching. Not in MD for long though right? Is Portugal on your list Dee D?
Good talk!
You folks did a bang up job in this interview!! Much appreciation to you and your guests. I had been hoping to save enough money to leave the US in the next couple of years, but now that it looks like we are heading for a recession, I am not sure whether that will be possible. My financial portfolio surely is not what I used to be. I hope D7 process doesn't go away in the meantime and I miss out on the opportunity.
Thank you so much. Antoine, did you get the Ready to Retire Toolkit? There are a lot of creative ways to make this thing work. You don't necessarily have to save a TON of money. Is there an opportunity for remote work right now, while you save? Check out Shida's on the Loose's interview with Libryia Jones, remote work expert. Good luck and let us know what you think.
Great video! Love Twanna! Maybe at a later date you can do a video on Lisbon neighborhoods or different areas of Portugal. Thanks.
Thanks for the idea! 😉 We've already started mapping that out...literally.
This was an EXCELLENT discussion. Thank you for offering so many details. This was great!! 👍🏾
Yah, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's really hard to get on video on be transparent. So we appreciate your kind words.
Loved this! Great info! I always learn something new!
Awesome! We didn't mean to go so long but the conversation kept flowing.
The fact that you two have raised 5 children to adult age, and care for 2 elderly parents; and now search for an enriched life abroad in your retirement is inspiring, commendable, and challenging. And it is only because you are considering Portugal as your destination, that I share my comments.
Regarding your podcasts and especifically your recent ‘live’ cast; my opinion is that those who follow your lead are taking a blind path towards expectations, and seeking a non existent utopia (in black). And it is them whom I address forward.
My comments come as one who has ‘no lack’ of experience in each of the categories that is promoted and targeted in this viewership:
-Retirement
-living abroad in Portugal and thriving
-USA ‘inner city’ Afro American.
In this note I will try to narrow my comments to the subject of ‘living abroad and thriving.
The host and guest question the operation and function of a bidet; in addition; accept the ‘lack of’ heating/cooling; double pained windows; good plumbing; and elevators as the reference: graffiti as the standard; and ‘black expat’ as the need. None of these; as well; putting your hopes with a pool of renters hoping to get chosen for a chance to over pay for a Lisboa apartment ‘rental’ is normal, nor the standard; it is a glamour frenzy! And those that follow, are being misled and mis informed (as they build wealth for others).
‘Our Rich Journey’ has acquired several properties, and are thriving. My wife and I have twelve rentals, a weekend apartment, and a custom home (elevator, 2 kitchens, double pain windows, solar, insulated, piped heating/cooling; hardwood flooring; verandas; skylights; custom light, garages etc;) and are thriving. Lisboa is beautiful; as is Portugal in general. Lisboa is not the standard; as Hollywood and NewYork (though beautiful and important) are not the standard of the USA. But if you never look over the fence, you will never know. And if you never are able to put your finances is order, nor ever venture to discover; you will never experience the true offerings of a place. Your experiences will thus be regulated towards that which you are shown/guided.
Retirement is not a destination-it is a journey!
Regarding legacy; It not about how much you make or have made, rather it is about how much that you keep, or have kept (to pass forward).
Response to asked questions that might seem conciliatory.
-no; there is no Target/Costco in Portugal.
-yes; groceries can be delivered.
-Portugal is in the top 1% in Europe regarding road Infrastructure.
-There are neighborhoods that have graffiti, but it is not the standard within any Portugal city.
-bidet (next to toilet) is for cleaning your body private parts.
-TV’s here in Euro have always had more scan lines that it’s US counterpart. However now there is 4k and 5k high definition as in USA.
-Historical center apartments are more prone to plumbing issues because of their age/expense/complications to repair.
-toilets are generally wall mounted/elevated for hygiene.
-people generally do not litter
-dog poop is a Lisboa issue; not in other cities
-toilet tissue is generally not over used as in USA (we have bidet’s).
-generally Portuguese people judge you by your education/dress/character
-the average US American uses less than 300 words (enter mixed) daily. Most of Portugal speak some English often at a higher level because the Latin roots of their language is so much richer.
-Portugal shares influences from Asia/Africa/South America and are often considered a Moorish people.
Portugal is not Lisbon and Lisbon ins not Portugal. There are so many different; thriving; wonderful communities and customs within the country, and outside of Lisbon.
Best wishes on your journey.
As a Portuguese I feel compelled to correct some misconceptions.
Toilets are NOT generally wall mounted, that is more or less a recent adoption in some new homes and renovations, and is more about styling and saving space than hygiene.
In Portugal, people don’t usually use bidets for that purpose, actually most people only use it very rarely.
"Dog poop" is an issue in many Portuguese cities, not just Lisbon, but it depends on the neighbourhood.
The Portuguese are NOT considered Moorish people, that would actually conflict with what is defined as Moors. There are only Moorish influences and people intermixing, just like from many other people that have lived here through the centuries. People from Lisbon might sometimes be called "mouros" by people in northern Portugal (Porto in particular), but that is used as a derogatory term against the capital’s centralization of power.
Thank you as always for your graciousness in sharing your knowledge. We got a lesson in bidets, since they're not common in the US and I can say, I get it...fresh and clean, LMAO. Too much information? I'm sorry. 🥹🤪😍

Thank you for your comment. I was not born a Portuguese citizen. Though I have only been a resident since the early 1980’s; and there after have become a citizen. However, i cannot profess that my decades of age or experiences (or lack there of) here in Portugal to have made me an authority on any related subject, nor would I expect it to discount my brief synopsis of response to the subjects that you were compelled to respond.
I perhaps should have perhaps been more broad in saying that Portugal is a ‘predominantly’ a Roman Catholic country. However, it’s culture results from many influences, including Celtic, Lusitania, Phoenician, Germanic, Visigoth, Viking, Sephardic Jewish, and Moorish.
-Regarding bidet; one has only to read the instructions for use, or look within a dictionary to find conflict in your comment regarding its uses and purpose.
-Wall mount sinks; toilets, and bidets are indeed recent to construction options in Portugal (about 15 years). The advantages are as you pointed out; additionally to allowing it to be easily cleaned under and around with less effort, and more thoroughly. Thus is the reason that I mention hygienically advantaged.
-It has been amply documented that Lisbon has a problem regarding ‘stray’ dogs, which perhaps can be a contributing factor regarding ‘dog poop.’ Having a dog myself, I am very sensitive to the issues regarding such. However, I have seen many successful efforts over the years to keep our cities clean, ‘particularly in the north. And therefor I would not call it a country wide problem.
Thank you again.
@@rashadd3403 I understand what you are saying, but there is a big difference between being Moorish people and having cultural influences from the Moors presence, otherwise we would have to call other people in Asia as Portuguese just because there was some cultural influence from the Portuguese presence there, even though the cultural proximity is tenuous at present time.
About the bidet, what you find in a dictionary does not have to reflect the customs in a particular country. I can tell you as a fact that most Portuguese don’t use the bidet for that - many would say they use it to clean/wash/warm their feet. Most Italians on the other hand do use it for that.
Nevertheless, wall mounted toilets are just a fraction of what you would find in Portuguese houses... Cleaning is not what most people think about when choosing such thing, otherwise in all my bathrooms it would be wall mounted, and not just in the tiny one... keep in mind that there is an obvious disadvantage in terms of maintenance! Maybe tourists have a higher chance of finding one, because a lot of AirBnBs are renovated tiny houses, but it’s not representative of what most Portuguese houses are.
Dog poop is not a particular problem from stray dogs, it’s mostly from owners not cleaning after their dogs. It becomes more evident in urban areas with higher population density and where owners don’t have easy access to big green spaces (where the problem would be "hidden"). I can tell you I have witnessed this unfortunate problem and consequences in different cities, throughout the country
This sounds so lovely. Can’t wait to visit there.
Yes, DM us when you plan to come and maybe we can meet up.
Hi guys, I just came across your channel. I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this discussion. I gained valuable information and got a chance to hear from such authentic and beautiful souls. Twanna and Liz were great guest and offered such great perspectives. Twanna felt like my sister from another mother, lol! My husband and I are older but still have a dream of moving to a place that is safe and welcoming. We're considering Madeira but are not ruling out the wonderful areas on the mainland. We plan to visit in the Spring. I just subscribed and I'm looking forward to hearing more from you and your guest about the journey of living in such a wonderful place. Wishing the best for all of you. Take care.
Hey Mela, what are you talking about? Ric and I are older and we're doing it - come on and join us. One day could be in a few months. (if you're not yet retired, start here: bit.ly/readytoretiretoolkit )
Hello I'm from Arizona making plans to move to Portugal
Hey Joyce, thanks for watching. Do you have an exit date already? Let us know how we can help your journey. 💕
I’ve lived abroad, and really miss it. In fact, when I came back to the states, I had a hard time readjusting.
Do you have plans to move out of the US? We will be back shortly, but thankfully only temporarily. We are not looking forward to it and are happy that it is only for six weeks.
@@OurBlackUtopia Yes, looking at Portugal as an option.
Lisbon is smaller version of San Francisco ,because of the bridge ,but with much more history .Lisbon is one of the oldest cities in Europe, even older than Rome.
Thank you for watching Helena. We don't care for SF but we LOVE Lisbon 🥳😍. Even if we were talking about the aesthetics, as you said, Lisbon is old and as such as soooo much more character. IMHO
Hi, I turned Labor Day into a laborless week and booked a last minute flight to Portugal! Looking forward too African History tour Wednesday and would love to meetup with black expats community
WOW, I cannot wait to be able to be that spontaneous. Are you apart of the Black in Portugal facebook group and the XPAT app?
In Portugal many of the big grocery store chains have an onlineshop with delivery. As for buying convenience, it will depend of the size and brand of the store in your neighbourhood. There are certainly grocery stores in the cities, where you can buy almost everything you need, even clothes. Over the last decade some of the big chains started opening small stores, inside older neighbourhoods.
Air drying clothes is definitely part of the culture, whether you are rich or poor, though one has to be smart to avoid unpleasantries.
As for safety, absolutely agree, being safer doesn’t mean you are safe. I doubt that you will find many Portuguese that don’t take some kind of precaution to be/feel safer, because we know there is crime and violence in Portugal, even if at much smaller scale than in other countries.
Thank you! We've been to Cortez Ingles in Spain, now that I understand their audience I will be less judgmental 😜. The first time we said, "we did not travel all the way to Europe to buy American basketball paraphernalia". Are their other large stores that have more than just food and things to prepare food in?
@@OurBlackUtopia Sorry, I am a bit confused 🙂, I always thought of El Corte Inglés as more upmarket, not with that much american merchandise, at least the ones I know from Porto (Portugal) and Madrid.
Anyway, about other stores, if you want one single store where you can buy almost everything that you will ever need in your life, then no, you won’t find one like that. However Continente and Auchan hypermarkets do sell other things besides groceries, "cookware" and hygiene products, like: books, stationery, toys, clothes, some bedroom and bathroom items, pet food (and other pet stuff), some gardening and outside activities "stuff", basic DIY products and tools for the house and car, and also non-prescription medicine. Most Hypermarkets also have an electronics shop right next door [for Continente it‘s Worten, from the same parent company]. Unfortunately Hypermarkets in Lisbon seem to be far from the city center (Colombo and Vasca da Gama Shopping centres), whereas in Coimbra there are 2-3 hypermarkets easily accessible to most population, while in Porto I think they are also more accessible. Keep in mind that Continente is a chain, with different store sizes: the hypermarket one, then there is Continente Modelo; Continente Bom Dia, and Continente Meu Super (the small tiny one)
Donna white from Florida
Hey Donna! Welcome and thank you for watching. We're in some Florida-type heat right now. 88 degrees feels like 100 🫠
I’ve read that Chega has gotten 20% of the vote in some areas of Portugal. What is your opinion of this political group.?
Hey Roz, yes they received 20% of the vote and therefore gained about 48 seats in Parliament. I have not done enough research on this specific topic with enough Portuguese folks to have an opinion I would be willing to share on YT😉.
I can say in general we are against any movement that seeks to divide people and operates from a position of lack instead of abundance and love.
Great informative video! I came across this video and will put Portugal on my list to visit. Someday, I would like to exit the U.S. You got a new subscriber. I notice in the comments that some people are envy of black Americans (that we're doing better than them) so they try to gaslight our feelings/experiences in the US. I wouldn't waste my time with them.
Hey DreamEbullience - WELCOME! 💕 - Back in those days we responded to some of the nonsense, but I don't bother anymore. It doesn't bring me joy 😆. you should definitely visit. We just made #1 again in the International Living's list of best places to retire. Living abroad may be easier than you think. This week we go live at 3:30 EST with Tiffany - who has been bopping around the world for quite some time... while working. And our guests last week spent a year traveling while working too. Now they're here and the husband is still working a traditional job out of the US...🧐
Continente stores is like Walmart or target in Portugal
Yes, but the food selection is SO MUCH BETTER at Continente! 😋
Does PT levy taxes against US pension income? (particularly VA disability, retirement, etc)
I will ask our relocation agent because things are changing as we type. If memory serves me it is 10% for ten years and 0% in the US because of the reciprocity with a lot of western European countries. However, we will double check that and we are trying to get her for an interview.
Actually Black folks have been in Portugal since the 1400s .
Did you watch our interview with Naky? ua-cam.com/video/nef0-IEyyS4/v-deo.html
49:39 Twanna, I understand why you say that, you lived all your life in a society with big problems of racism.
But here you wouldn't be the only black woman in the neighborhood, you'd just be another woman in the neighborhood.
And I realize that it takes time to understand the culture of a foreign country, but believe me, most Portuguese people don't want black, white or blue neighborhoods, skin color doesn't matter, honest and decent people do.
We have experienced the decency of the Portuguese people and so has Twanna and Liz that's why we are choosing to make Portugal our new home. Runa, you have to understand how it feels to grow up for 40+ years it is drummed into your head that because of the color of our skin we are less-than. Moreover, that because of the color of our skin, crazy people gather guns and go into our churches and communities and kill us 5-10 people at a time. That is America. It will take more than a few months to detox from all of that negativity. No need to give you the statistics, you can Google them. But believe me, we are loving Portugal, the culture, the people, the food -oooh the food :D. AND we are committed to learning the language. Thank you so much for watching and learning about the 'isms of America.
Wish I could convince my dear-darling, wonder-wife to retire and relocate to PT with me! But, she loves her career++ and wants to work another 5+ years or so. Any tips…???
That jobs does NOT deserve her brilliance - I don't know her and I know that. I had to disassociate myself with "I am the job" Can she work remotely without having to ever go into the office?
I thought the same thing and my husband mentioned, "after the 2024 election, will our US Passport get us out of the country? Will they start putting restrictions on who can and who cannot leave?"
If you're not in the US or even if you are, here's the concern. When we first started looking at Portugal the requirements were simple; background check, enough $ in the bank and that was it. Now they want the same PLUS , a NIF number, a bank account, health insurance, and a 1 year lease BEFORE even applying! They are making it harder and harder every year. I think there might be some internal political pressure from citizens about being priced-out of some markets...Either way, 5 years from now the D7 Visa may not exist. It was put in place to help their economic situation, it might not be necessary by then and they've already put major restrictions on the Golden Visa. Food for thought - (Also have her watch Stephanie Perry.)
@@OurBlackUtopia That is EXACTLY what I keep trying to tell her - but she is convinced it’s not just the job, she says “it’s the people.. we are like a family” that’s when I remind her that WE ARE her family
@@standelasanantone2180 A wiser woman than I, @Stephanie Perry said, "if you stay on the job for X more years, what will be different and what is the 'feeling' that you are trying to capture?" For me, the feeling I was trying to capture was that "I made it"; however, being able to wake up when I want to, travel (on a budget), and not have the stress of missing emails - that to me is "having made it". What is the feeling that you want to have? FREEDOM!
Why this title?. It makes no sense to say Black expats. I'm Portuguese and it makes me very confused to realize that your target audience is colored when it should be for all Americans regardless of color. But aren't you all Americans? I get so confused that my brain can't process the information. Is it true that in America there are two sides to society? Be happy here in the corner of Europe.
I understand,. NBA, that this focus on Black Expats may not make any sense to your Portuguese brain. It is an unfortunate fact of growing up in the US that as a minority person your status as a non-majority, or non-dominant, or non-mainstream person is highlighted in your awareness over and over again. Yes we are all American. And yes this content could be useful for all Americans. And also our experience as African Americans is specific and unique within the American context. That experience is often one of the reasons Black folks in the United States want to leave the US. Perhaps this is not something you can relate to as a person coming from outside the US. But please do not judge. Perhaps it might be interested to you to get to know a few Black people from the United States to hear more intimately about their experiences.
What Antoine said...
And this part is for ALL non-Americans who don't understand why we are hyphenated or need to talk about our experience from the lens of Blackness.
1. 1. There is racism everywhere, I have not been to a country, including on the continent of Africa, where I have not experienced anti-blackness.
2. Did you know that every 25 years congress has to take a vote to see if they want to continue to protect Black Americans' right to vote?
3. Did you know that in America every Black person that I have met has:
a. Been followed around a store automatically suspected of stealing?
b. Has been harassed or knows someone who's been harassed by the police?
c. We are made to change the way our hair grows, the way we speak, and what we name our children in order to "assimilate" and be acceptable or respectable?
4. Did you know that Black women who are doctors, lawyers, and highly educated die 70% more having babies than white women who never finished high school?
5. Did you know that Black people in America die earlier, not because of lack of health care etc. but because of the stress of being Black in America causing strokes, heart attacks, and other stress-related health problems?
5. Did you know that most of the cops who kill innocent Black people never get punished?
6. Did you know that in America white people call the police on black people who are:

b. Having a picnic at the park

@@OurBlackUtopia Thank you for stating your reasons. My notion about the situation I mentioned is obtained from what I see in news, movies and social networks. When I see and hear you speak, what I see are Americans who like Portugal. I cannot see that you are more or less than other Americans.I believe that living the way you refer is not worthy of a fair, egalitarian and democratic society. Yet how is it possible that we are sold that the US is the best country in the world? With all the problems you mentioned, I would say they have to review the way Americans quantify their country as the best of all. I hope you are happy here in Portugal.
@@nba6124 we love it here. And thank you. America is really good at propaganda. Most Americans believe it too, regardless of the facts we stated above. Always happy to share knowledge. Thank you so much for your warm welcome.
@@nba6124 I am speaking as a white person in America. From what I see about 50% of white Americans have hate in their heart or at least look down upon black and brown people, thinking they are better than them. About 50% of the white people are lovely people with no hate in their hearts for others who are different than them....but those 50% of white people who are hateful really makes the US a really negative and stressful place to be. Even though I am white and am not mistreated, I want to leave the US because of all the hateful white people here. The US is also one of the most dangerous countries for gun violence....another reason I am leaving although I have not yet been a victim of this either. I think both of these issues (along with the expensive healthcare system) really make the US a stressful place for those of us who come from a peaceful, loving place and want to live among other kind people and live in welcoming, accepting communities. I would think every person of color would be under stress living in such a negative environment in the US......I cannot speak for anyone, but it would be hard for me to imagine the US being a stress free environment for any person of color. It seems to me that being a person of color in the US would be exhausting and infuriating.....as a white person, the US is exhausting and infuriating.....This is why I want to move to Portugal.
Grocery delivery
Yes in large cities like Lisbon Porto Coimbra and lots more others cities
Yes, but we find that getting off the couch and walking to the stores is so much better. 😉. Our neighborhood is fantastic and has 3 chain stores and too many mini mercados to count within walking distance.
