I use to walk Frankford Ave when I was a kid. There was a mom and pop soft pretzel store near Unity and the Ave. which was the best, five cent pretzels and Franks soda, back in the day!
I grew up in this area used to run with the boys all around here and closer to the old Penn fruit. I had a cousin that worked there when it was Thriftway. and I worked in Frankford hospital's E.R. through high school this was in the early seventy's. everything Looks completely different now.
Right around the 8:20 mark, you can see a family walk by, little kid, another in a stroller. No WAY would I walk under the El, at night, with little kids like that. Heck, *I* wouldn't want to do that by myself. Cap is a lot braver than I am.
demolition of landmarks is what happens when a city's historic preservation laws are toothless. We should be more like NYC and get an Historic Districts Council.
I remember the Penn Fruit supermarkets Captain. It is a shame to tear down a building that could possibly be reopened as a new business. There is an Acme near me that many stores ago was a Penn Fruit.
Welcome to paradise! I'm amazed you're messing around there at night. I went through a handful of times, and always felt like I was going to have to handle some business. Somebody's looking out for you.
Greatest neighborhood in Philly & also biggest shitbox too! I lived on Saul & Dyre & Deni has some very old houses & buildings. As a kid my mother & I would go to Penn Fruit & there was an eye dr. right there were that 7-11 was. Best childhood memories growing up in FKD
Actually those dome type ceilings are very risky potential fire hazards, especially when firefighters are on the roof ,it should be equipped with extra fire protection if saved
As a "return" to Philly after a half century, the city looks better. The new mayor is more action than just lip service, just check K&A. She has my complete support and other large cities have the same or worse problems, as in NYC. I'm totally Philly Proud!!!
As a recent "departure" after half a century, the city only LOOKS better in select sections. An over-priced facade has been placed on a few formerly decrepit neighborhoods. Meanwhile, the entire Northeast and down to Kensington is in decline, retail spaces are closing and remaining vacant, center city office space is struggling, police districts are closing, petty crime and retail theft are rampant, essential city services are declining, every city department is in perpetual deficit, rioting and mass looting are an annual expectation now, and there are probably 3-4 tents popping up for every new construction or rehabbed house.
Good grief that was nerve wracking 😮 i was jumpy watching you go through those darkened areas

You could put “Let’s get the hell out of here” on one of your shirts . A new catch phrase.

There are still people camping in tents and doing drugs on K&A.
As long as Liberals run it. It will be a crime ridden dump
The mayor announced the city will start cleaning Kensington on May 8th.
If you aren't being sarcastic you haven't really toured the city or Kensington yet.
