    It is important to note that centrifugal pumps can be driven by any mode of force, that is a diesel engine, gas engine, hydraulics, or steam turbine just to name a few. It is the impeller that defines a centrifugal pump.

    As a bit of advice, use mechanical seals whenever it is an option over packing. We had Chilled Water Pumps that used packing as the Contactor which supplied it chose the default cheaper option, ended up being a maintenance nightmare. Some engineering mods were done to change out the packing in the stuffing box as well as upgrade the bearing lube oil to try and make it more resilient to water, no dice. It got so bad the maintenace folks welded sheet metal shields over where the housing met the shaft to stop water leakage spraying everywhere over the chiller room.
    Installed mechanical cartridge seals and the pumps have caused no problems since.

    hi admin.
    is this centrifugal pump can be use as motor generator to construct hydro power electricity by attaching the peltron turbines to the pump to spins the motor backwards without any changes in the motor?
    will there be power loses in the motor?
    thanks

      Unless the motor was refitted with magnets or electromagnets, it won't produce power

      Takes the stress off the impeller housing. When you space the bearings out you get more stability of the impeller and shaft. If the impeller housing was an integral part of the motor case and the motor shaft and pump shaft were the same piece, that would work well too. It would be the same effect of spaced out support.

    • @tonyhawk123
      @tonyhawk123 Рік тому

      If the bearings were not there then the gland would presumably be supporting the weight, and thats not the job of the gland - its just there to keep water from leaking. Would probably lead to a leak because the weight on the gland would cause it to compress over time and develop a gap near the top.

    So what does the electric motor have to do with how centrifugal pumps work, the pump can de driver by any rotating machine. Don’t mean to diminish your efforts but too much time spent on the electric motor.

      I like it, because he repeats himself in some way in these videos and you recognize the bits you have already learned before what leads to long term memory.
      But yeah, for the actual centrifugal pump it was not important.

    • @EngineeringMindset
      @EngineeringMindset  Рік тому +8

      True, but I've never been to a modern site where a centrifugal pump wasn't driven by an electric motor. It's basically an integral part of the device so I explain both parts.
