Book called outliers by Malcolm Gladwell points out how all the outliers ( you can call them stars in this case ) needed someone to become who they are .. no one person is solely responsible for their own success .. they had to grab influence or the direction from someone . It’s a good read

All Truth. I been saying this for years everybody say I’m trippin. Biggie would not have been as big without Puff. Puff crafted that persona. Knew what type samples to put him on. That whole playa image. With OutKast 3000 definitely needed Big Boi . Charisma is king.

I heard him in another interview saying big boi was the star and not 3000.
3000 needed big boi and big boi needed 3000. 3000 more lyrical and more artistic as far as him looking exactly like an “outcast” but NEITHER one of them are bigger than the group. Both are stars and I think hold equal value to what made OutKast who they were and are.
Big up to big boi for keeping that OutKast name alive with steadily dropping music and still touring.

I really appreciate PK’s take on this and he’s absolutely correct. However, I can’t agree with him about Andre 3000. Especially in the beginning. I’m from New York City and when Outkast dropped in 94 I remember everyone thinking that Dre was the best one in the group. However, once Dre got turned out by Erykah Badu and became a hippie, Big Boi became more relevant to the streets. Andre on Get Up Get Out, Skewie on the Barbecue, Elevators, So Fresh and So Clean tell you who was really that dude with the rap flow and lyrics. 3000 was a monster in his prime. Facts 💯✌🏽

That is a damn lie. They're both good in their own right. If they kept at it they would hv been successful. Only thing is Andre's personality is abit at odds with the hiphop lifestyle, he needed real dudes that supported him and allowed him to be himself. Andre is damn near 50 and scared to put out solo stuff, he would hv been a mess as a solo artist. Skills would have been top-notch but not sure if he could have handled the life.

In that climate in the 90s Big Boi could've easily came out as a solo artist and been successful due to his relatability. Andre could've too because at the onset he wasn't so far out there, however, if he would've went solo and made the transitions he made in the group, I don't know how successful he would've continued to be as a solo artist without the grounding rod of Big Boi. Just my opinion.

Not what he’s saying. It’s without a doubt Jay wouldn’t be Jay without Dame, and he’d tell you the same thing. He knew he could use Dame to get in positions, it’s not a bad thing it’s a business thing

Nah, it's more about the alchemy that happens when certain combinations of people come together. Remove 1 person from the equation and things change, and many times for the worse but not always. 3000 & Big Boi both were needed to have what we loved about outcast, and the same can be said about Jay Z and Dame. Without the both of them, what we loved about the Rocka Fella records movement wouldn't have have been able to happen, nor continue to keep going. Same thing with Mobb Deep, we love Havoc, but it's not the same level of potency without Prodigy. Even prodigy's solo album though being dope, wasn't the same potency the group releases with havoc on them were. So none of these individuals were expendable.
