T.I. Interview: Responding To Lil Wayne Publicly + When Trap Music Goes Too Far | Sway's Universe

  • T.I. has made it clear since late 2016 that it's US or Else. Politically charged after last year's Presidential announcement of Donald Trump as our new leader, along with recent Black Lives Matter injustices, Tip released a project to inspire and motivate us all, entitled "Us Or Else: Letter To The System" -- and he joined us on Sway in the Morning to talk all about it.
While in-studio with us, T.I talks about getting passed an old criminal mindset, along with making more than trap music and using his negative experiences to teach the youth today -- he even dropped money-spending gems to inspire us all.
Last year, during the Black Lives Matter movement, Lil Wayne stirred up some controversy after his “my life matters” rant on an episode of Nightline, seeming to go against everything protesters were fighting for -- and T.I. didn't hold his tongue to check him. During his in-studio interview with us, he explained why he responded so publicly to Weezy.

You listen to his interviews when he makes a point, he does a whole roundabout repeating himself with different words.
"Well actually, what I had ascertained in reference to the situation at hand, I had learned that regarding this issue that I was not etc." you see it all the time haha, not giving him shit, I love his music but it's funny to listen to, reminds me of a Chem teacher I once had.

At 16:15 T.I. is speaking on Group Economics. We as a community must really develop this financial habit and strategy now more than ever. Our economy is now more global than it's ever been so it's essential that we support each other's restaurants, online boutiques, clothing stores, banks, jewelry supply and accessory shops, auto shops, book stores, etc. If we are dissatisfied with service we get from our own don't give up on us, move on to the next one of us. Often times we give up on each other so quickly and abandon ourselves instead of giving another black owned business a try. We have to wake up!

To be real, segregation wouldn't be bad. When we were separated, black people Had more unity, respect, saw more value and shared more love for each other than ever,, when all we had was one another.
Not to mention we had thriving communities and we supported each other economically i.e. Black Wall Street
As long as some of us can go over here and get us a white man/woman, work next to them in corporate jobs, and go to school with them we, then at the end of the day go home to our $250K home, with our benz in the drive way and get opportunities that other blacks cant provide we wont ever get it right...

Has anyone who is discrediting actually listened to the whole interview or his album? If you discredited everyone who has lived or certain lifestyle, listened to certain music/dressed a certain way, or was young/dumb at one point......who would you have to listen to? I had growth and I'm certainly not the same guy I was when I was 20.

I've always loved and respected T.I. for his brutal honesty, and determination to mature and grow - not just with his music, but also in his life. But looking at some of these hateful comments on this thread about him has really opened my eyes. It's sooo sad and unfortunate when so many of the same ppl that helped make him rich & famous by supporting his music about selling drugs have now become the same ppl that are dissin' him because he's talking about positive things and uplifting the black community. I swear, for me, this is proof that "NIGGAS" will hate you if you do anything that would require them to have to "look up to you", or do better in their own lives... because when you start out on the same level as them that's where they expect you to stay forever, smh. #Sad

I really enjoyed listening to this interview. I really like T.I. and a lot of his music. Just want to comment on one of the comments below about rappers, even T.I., being hypocritical with music they produce. Its so true that parents are responsible for teaching their children, which includes what they listen to and the association they keep (this would include music, tv, social media, etc.). The fact of the matter is that kids and even adults are influenced by all these avenues. Some are influenced greater than others. You can preach about doing the right things all you want, but kids will look at "what you do" (your actions) and that's what they will imitate. That's the truth! Only a select few will look at a bad example at home or in their neighborhood or in their community and say to themselves "I will never be like that" and they grow up and are completely different from their parents or the company around them and they are to be commended! I respect T.I. for trying to do "something" instead of nothing at all, but at the end of day TIP, if you put out music that promotes violence, drugs, sex, and things like these, it will continue to influence young black people in the very direction you are trying to turn them away from. In the end, you will defeat your yourself and all your efforts to influence for the good. Just wanted to speak a little truth here.
