  • Pastors Irwyn Ince and Mark Vroegop call pastors and ministry leaders to focus on faithfulness, reminding them that God controls the size of their churches. Regardless of a church's size, Vroegop and Ince underline the importance of a congregation's ability to care for its members and for elders to shepherd the flock.
They also point out that church size is not a definitive measure of a church's health, but rather effective shepherding can be found in both small and large congregations. They conclude by highlighting an ideal church-one where people are known, loved, seen, and protected under the gospel, no matter its size.

Good discussion of God's decision on the size of His local expressions of His body, and our need as as undershepherds to be faithful. Good short discussion. I always try to remember Francis Schaeffer 's discussion that there is no small ministry, no small people, and no small assignments (places) for the Gospel. Good discussion of care and shepherding as not being related to size but rather about love and Gospel grace with one another. Thank you both.

Thank you, Mark! You are making the obvious point, but one that is rarely considered. If the elders are too few or worse still, unqualified, for the reality of I Pet. 5: 2,3 to take place, then there is a HUGE problem. Many people have told me that they do not know the elders. How in the world can they know if they are worthy of emulation as Peter says they should be!
