AN INVITATION TO ALL:
Launching Ceremony of Raja Zarith Sofiah Centre for Advanced Studies on Islam, Science and Civilisation (RZS-CASIS), and the Inauguration of the Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas Chair of Islamic Thought on 15 June 2015.
In conjunction with the launching of the RZS-CASIS and conferment of SMN Al-Attas Chair of Islamic Thought to Professor Dr. Wan Mohd Nor Wan Daud, the first Saturday Night Lecture 9th Series on the 15th June 2019 will be scheduled together with the Chairholder's acceptance speech, and relocated to a bigger venue to accommodate the number of anticipated audience.
We are pleased to invite you to be part of this auspicious event in the presence of Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen Consort of Johor Darul Ta’zim.
The Raja Zarith Sofiah Centre for Advanced Studies on Islam, Science and Civilisation (RZS- CASIS) will be an upgraded entity previously known as the Centre for Advanced Studies on Islam, Science and Civilisation (CASIS), based in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
Initially established in 2011 under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Wan Mohd Nor Wan Daud, the Centre seeks to promote trans-disciplinary post-graduate scholarship and learning for the advancement of knowledge in the fields of study relating to Islam, Science, and Civilisation and their allied sciences under the ambit of the worldview of Islam in full cognizance of relevant developments in other civilisations, especially in the contemporary world.
From now on, the Centre will be autonomous in planning and managing its academic activities, and be placed directly under the patronage of Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah.
As part of the upgrade of RZS-CASIS, Her Majesty has also consented for the establishment of the SMN Al-Attas Chair Islamic Thought, whose first holder--Prof. Dr Wan Mohd Nor Wan Daud--is handpicked by Professor Al-Attas himself.
This historic event is taking place after prior discussions and meetings with Her Majesty wherein she offered her full support to the scholars at CASIS.
