I will try not to be a Smart Butt today. I found small boards at Amazon that take 12V and give you one or two USB chargers. I took 3 of the ones that give 2 USB charger ports put them together so with one wire, YES I did put the poles on the wire to plug into my power. So I plug in my power pole and have 6 USB charging ports for my tablit, phone, and the many other things we use that need 5V. Thank you for the work you put in to give us information! 73 W4DES
If I'm not mistaken, you can select the front BNC connector to do HF as wall as VHF/UHF so the reroute is superfluous. Menu item 07 on page 54. And on Page 11 it describes it for figure reference 15, front antenna connector.
Digirig makes short not-coiled cables. I did the same setup but with an 857 but I used their short cable, its like a foot long not coiled. The difference its day and night. Of course, they are not cheap, I think was $30 plus shipping
Fantastic job. I was going to buy one for my radio but it cost more to ship than the cost of the rail. Was going to be very expensive. I did email them but didn't hear anything back 🤷🏽73
What is the audio quality / volume after putting the antenna tuner on top of the speaker? I like the compact set up, and would love to do something like this for my 891 in the future.
It does have a built in battery. You can see it for about a half a second right before I power it on. I have the Windcamp battery installed. That’s the switch I threw before pushing the power button.
I wouldn't really call this a mobile radio. It's a QRP all band all mode radio. It does HF/VHF/UHF. Small form factor, light weight, built in battery, you can work the world with this radio. Great for POTA/SOTA, SHTF, travel, fast and easy deployment, etc. etc. etc. Arguably one of the more popular radios (including the 817, it's older version) to come out in the last ~25 years for portable operations. Prob why they discontinued it lol!
@hamradiotube oh ok. Well it looks really cool too. I didn't know it had a built in battery. that changes my perspective on it haha. One of the main things I dislike about man-packing a mobile is having an external 12v power source, so that is awesome! Thanks for the reply.
The tuner was not by Armoloq. If you wish, you can use a strap. The cables are by Digirig. I agree with Mike that I do not have a use for the coiled cables, but that is what Denis sells. I may homebrew my own. Some day.
Call it the “818 Assault Brick”. All you need now is add Red Dot optics and a Selector switch (semi=straight key & full=iambic)😅❤
Love it!! I don't think I have an extra red dot laying around but I do have a couple lasers!
@ Saitan will love chasing the lasers.😻
Oh he does!

See I looked and didn't see any. Not for the 818 anyway. Maybe I didn't look hard enough. I'll go back and check.
It's under the 8xx tab.@@hamradiotube
Ordered an Armoloq cage for my FT 897. It was finally in stock.
Nice! Even nicer you have an 897!

I can't believe I just asked you about that thingy. I may do the one for the 705.
Looks a "little" expensive but looks like a high quality product and worth the price. Great video.
😆just ordered one for my FT 891.
Spoken like a true ham lol!
Thinking about getting an Armaloc for my new 891. 73!
You can relocate the key, and the mic as well, to the front… pretty sweet
Where is your back pack wearable HF antenna?
Cool kit! I bet you could find a 3d printable model for the CW key bracket.
That's sweet, now all we need is yaesu to get on board with Manpack mobile rigs
Digirig makes shorter cables for the Yeasu FYI
I looked a couple times. I'm only seeing short, non coiled cables for the 891, which I have. But I'm not seeing anything for the 818.
Have 1 for my FT-8900 as it is my EmComm quad band radio.
2:30 I've never had that problem.
Mike doesn’t radio have a built in battery? How’d ya power it?
It does have a built in battery. You can see it for about a half a second right before I power it on. I have the Windcamp battery installed. That’s the switch I threw before pushing the power button.
@ mike, thank you
you bet
And some of us love the coiled cables.😂
Yes, you're called monsters lol! 🤣
Which bag in that?
It is this: amzn.to/3ZDlckx Comes in a few colors. This one is the green.
Not sure why they don't make anything for Elecraft. I'd love something like that for my KX2.
That is super cool!
What’s the bag?
Enjoy this affiliate link. amzn.to/4ijl2WP
Ziptie all the things!
Just wish I had some DenCo Zip Ties. I had to get this from Harbor Freight. 🤣
Lord Tube. Is the bag a Red Rock Rover Sling?
That one isn't but I have a Red Rock. Love that bag.
What bag is it?
Awesome 🙂👍
Definitely road worthy
VERY nice!
Pretty sure you will never sell that radio 😂
Its only 6w though Why not just use a HT? Not hating, maybe there are cool features on that. I thought the benefit of mobiles was that they can tx 50w

@hamradiotube that is an insanely small radio for All band 😮 cant get that with a HT. now i need one.
Was liking it - up to the zip ties. Then felt disappointed. C’mon Armoloc, anything worth doing is worth OVERdoing.

Zip ties and Power Poles rule the world lol! But also what Lee said.
I need a part time job… 🤦🏻♂️💸💸💸
I have been considering one of these for awhile
I could buy a brand new radio for this price. haha. But it is cool.
Wow who designed this kit a 2 year old.Load of rubbish
The sounds is horrible. Next
Very horrible to protect your radio 🙄
Lets see your videos and setup. 😂
Something so satisfying about doing a radio project. ❤
Happy Holidays! 🎄- KF0QNM
The hobby of never ending projects for sure! Merry Christmas.
