Appreciate you being a hip hop head too. Love the Big L shirt
I'm pretty sure a normal deadlift will help you hit harder. That's a form of athleticism
How about sprints?
Can't imagine the amount.of his spit that's on that gym floor, LOL
Fr that’s why I mainly only breath through my nose when trainign
*training
@@killianclark5968lil bro is not training hard
@@killianclark5968 then boogers fly ouy
Doesn't matter nobody's out here licking the floor
Someone’s gonna blow out their Achilles doing this I can see it now
Someone out there will try a 1 rep max 😂
This is really unnecessary and honestly unsafe. The benefits on the ankle are hypothetical. Reality is the lift is too unstable to be able to load effectively for what you can probably produce with the calves and achilles tendon. You’re better off doing a heel elevated hold with a static carry rather than doing an dynamic motion. This also risks too much throw off motion and instability to the back and feet making the movement pattern kinda crappy and could cause someone an injury.
I’m all for improving the spring of the ankle but we’ve gotta do better than this guys.
And also saying that this is the only deadlift that can improve athleticism is just so incorrect and misleading on so many levels. Please stop misleading athletes with your gimmicks.
First correct comment I’ve seen
I was waiting to come across this, and I'm surprised at how many people actually believe it straight off the bat.
This depends on your natural gait. Ive had poor walking posture my entire life and still to this day walk only on my toes. This was always the only way I knew how to squat since my heels dont touch the floor. Been deadlifting for several years now and never had any injury at all or even broke a bone
You dont know what you are talking about, everyones body is different so this could work for one but not many people. Its just another deadlift Variation.
"Are there any compound lifts that will translate to making me stronger?" WTF kinda question is that
Yeah...like....any deadlift translates to athleticism....
First new exercise ive seen in a looong time
Have you tried the cock pullup
Sometimes things shouldn’t have been invented.
@@williamedward3198 have u tried this exercise? Im curious to know an other opinion of it. This guy tends to get himself lost in the weeds trying to mimic sports movements too specifically with his exercises instead of building maximum strength and power in each plane of movement.
@@briccshitthouse This is a good example of him getting lost in the weeds. Your gym training should never be trying to replicate sports specific movements, that's kind of the point of strength and conditioning. You do general training to bring about adaptations to athletic qualities that you can then apply to your sports specific training.
Correct me if I'm wrong,, but to my knowledge the standard deadlift aids athleticism.
Sure but other exercises could be more beneficial such as cleans 🫡
Im trying to recover from achilles tendonitis. I found that trying to strengthen my achilles by just doing single leg calve raises isn't helping my running pain. Isometrics, plyometrics-loading, and functional stretching is helping. Slow but better athlete at the end of my journey.
The plyos added into the isometric and other strength training will definitely help
Hi people, this is mostly a waste of time if you’re a beginner/ intermediate lifers. Please don’t let let fancy excercises being done by someone with a good physique fool you, stick to the basics and focus on progressive-overload.
This is GOLD, I can't wait to start doing these on top of calf raises and bounces
Big L, rest in peace 🕊️

I am a D1 track runner and this is a great excercise for explosiveness and atheltism.
Trap bar deadlifts are the only deadlifts that my son performs as he is in an athletic position. They are usually for as an eccentric or concentric/ Plyometric set.
I like this idea but if I can also chime in… narrow stance is great for explosiveness. The way to set up for narrow is to approach the bar quickly as if you are going to jump like you would to hit a max vertical, then look at your feet and that is how wide your feet should be.
All the deadlifts 🎉
The ground reaction forces can only be improved if your using the correct tempo and intensity
All deadlifts help with your athleticism.
No
I respectfully disagree with this, I am open to hearing your argument as to why they do help with athleticism, and I will tell you why they don't.
@@nathansidhu8326 all athletes do deadlifts.
@nathansidhu8326 define athleticism first
@@jcdenton2907 I define athleticism as one's ability to move their entire body through space in a manner which takes coordination and skill. Now for the physical qualities of an athlete, is someone who has taken upon themselves to master each physical quality, so to say a jack of all trades in physical endeavors but not really a master of any, but more than capable in each.
My ankles died watching this💀
What's wrong with calve raises ? I don't think it's a good idea making a functional move of the deadlift. Stay stable when doing weight training
I thought you were about to take off running with the weight😂😂
That's the next progression 😂
That's the most complex calf raise exercise I've ever seen that actually sounds practical
This actually stabilizes your ancle and helps if you have pain there because it could be underdeveloped
Or just do regular deadlifts?
Or no?

@@leopapio683 How'd you tear it?
@mikemeetstec well it was during the ranger assessment, rucking and running to prepare for it cause a small tear on it, hurt so bad decided then and there I was better off tapping out lol Literally took over a year to recover from it.
@@leopapio683Thanks for sharing. Hope there's less pain now 👍🏽
All deadlifts help with athleticism. Deadlifts or variations of the deadlift are as much a backbone for athletic training as the back squat is. The variation in this short is borderline useless, it's unstable, causing the force production to tank and makes it pointless as a tool for force production, power or hypertrophy. Training ground reaction force or preparing the athlete to handle the impacts of running etc should be done with appropriate plyometrics and appropriate volume of running etc. This is just trying to invent the wheel by making a square wheel..
I was fucking around with this but with RDLs.. crazy
Love the Big L shirt!
Yes, all of them
It’s true I used to run a 4.20 40 yard dash. Now it’s just .20 seconds
I feel like this goes without saying but please, for the love of god, start these with much lower weight than you’re used to. Having your heels unsupported like that exponentially increases your chances of your ankles rolling and possibly even breaking.
Zercher Sumo Deadlifts for wrestling!
As an actual athlete, the best deadlift for athleticism is not whatever crap this is. Personally, I like a Romanian Deadlift, but a standard deadlift is a very important exercise for competitive athletes!
Man your a legend
How about a power clean!!
This will definitely help me bounce when running

You being a certain height, weight and skin color doesn't change the basic principles of gaining muscle.
Yeah whatever, you look like a runner so I believe you
Try an Olympic weightlifting pull
My favorite is the wide stance statch grip rdl runners deadlift.
+ single leg elevated with shrugs
This is like squatting double bodyweight on a bosu ball… the nervous system can pick up on instability like this when attempting to lift heavy weights and in turn limits the amount of force your muscles can generate to protect itself from injury. So not only are you not getting an appreciable training stimulus from this, but you’re also loading an unstable position with a ton of weight. This is pointless and dangerous. Regular deadlifts have plenty of carryover for athletes as long as you’re not lifting maximal weights in season and causing a ton of fatigue that can’t be recovered from. Having strong glutes, hams, and erectors doesn’t suddenly turn an athlete into a potato.
Should you only do it barefooted?????????
Thank u bro I don't wanna be like a big shitty bodybuilder I wanna be like Bruce Lee, incredibly fit
Would love to read the research

Hey man, isn’t this a little bit unsafe? Genuinely asking. Seems like you’re opening up the risk to injury even more regarding deadlifts
This looks like a ticket to snap city.
Always have been, I wonder when this workout was discovered ?
Shit! I was just wondering this morning if there was a very specific deathlift that could help my athleticism!
Don’t do this shit unless you want your foot to touch the front of your shin
Lol. I can now rest knowing that most deadlifts do nothing. I can tell you from somebody who has pulled 405 for over 10 years conventional style the only thing it has done is make my back look asthetically great and thick.
Lomg runs? Aight, will implement
Great idea training that isometric ankle stability under load! That's why I started doing barbell Fisher squats/Sam squats/kickstand squats in front rack position. It's like a lunge or split squat with the back leg balanced on ball of foot with unsupported heel like the runner's deadlift, but the hip is opened more and the RoM goes full knee flexion-full extension on the back leg while the planted lead leg stays soft to limit lateral hip shift and aid in stability. It engages more posterior chain than a normal deep front squat IMO which translates better to stepups without being as limited by balance. It also has good single leg bias like a lunge or split squat but overloads through full RoM of the knee which is great for knee pain IMO.
Seeing you running really makes me appreciate just how big you are lol
