Maybe Callie wanted to attempt to be a diplomat, at least to sympathise at least with the Octarians as peacefully as possible. So blame the Hypnoshades for hijacking that idea.

Additionally the devs never really planned for the Splatoon franchise to be story centric which explains why Callie and Marie seem to have zero character development in the past 6 years or so. Even the Octo Expansion chatlogs (while they were a step in the right direction) felt to have their conflicts finished quickly...especially after when Marina discovered that Cuttlefish leaked all of her past to Pearl. I understand that Nintendo prefers gameplay > story but I find it frustrating and disappointing when it's brought to this extent.

But I do wish that, once reunited in the outpost, they talked more about themselves and their feelings towards eachother. I like the Agent 4 factopedia, but I wish that we were given an option as to what we want to hear from them. For example, when we interact with them, we could have gotten a "get tips" and an "eavesdrop" options.
I just wanna say the relationship chart for the characters is available on Inkipedia, the Splatoon wiki and it does give a tiny bit of insight as to the whole Callie getting abducted situation.
Yeah, turns out she wanted to make peace with them, but Octavio took advantage of her naivete at the last minute. And the fact that she still seems somewhat sympathetic towards the Octarians even after what Octavio did gives Callie quite an interesting aspect of her character.
8:30, well, hypnosis can’t make you do anything you truly aren’t willing to do. So, it’s not really fair to say that she was unwillingly forced to carry this out. Game theory talked about about this in an episode about Luigi being hypnotized and then being mean to his brother Mario. Those feelings were always there, the hypnosis was more of a little push. I think looking at it from this perspective makes the story a bit better. For kids, they’ll just think she was forced. But for others, they’ll know that her actions really weren’t that far off from her true intentions

Callie was becoming toward DJ Octavio before she was squidnapped. Whether she was actually kidnapped or convinced, who knows, but the seeds were there. I'm somewhat surprised you didn't mention the Low Tide Ink or Tide Goes Out's power. It's a random, but huge, statement that Low Tide Ink exists, but no one in the Splatoon community appears to notice it. Is it simply ignored because it is absent in the Japanese version? Or has Octo Canyon become so irrelevant fans are considering it non-canon (sorta like how Metroid Other M was)?

In Splatoon 2's Octo Canyon, at the final fight against Octavio, Marie flies in on Sheldon's bus. She fires her charger at Callie to remove the hypnoshades. But she remarks that she didn't hit Callie with normal ink, but instead Low Tide Ink (Low Tide is also the name of the song that plays when you meet Marie in Octo Canyon). Callie is dazed, and there are sparkles around her head from the Low Tide Ink. Presumably, not only did Marie need to remove the hypnoshades, but also needed the Low Tide Ink to bring Callie back to being herself. That's the answer to your question; now rant time. When Marie flies in she starts singing Tide Goes Out (in the form of Tidal Rush) which implies that she had also had to sing it to bring Callie back. Why is a mystery. Right now it is assumed it was simply an emotional thing, that Callie needed to hear it or something. Sometimes one wonders if Tide Goes Out has a special impact on Inklings of its own. One theory suggests that Marie would have sung the Calamari, but needed a partner. End of rant.
@@sherbertshortkake6649 I'd wager that she just shot the shades off with regular ink (she's a sharpshooter after all) and that it was the music that helped Callie (since music has an extended record in the lore stating how it affects the behavior of cephalings). But the idea of a special type of ink is very interesting. Specially if it is specifically stated to be a thing.
