Im really interested in buying a couple of knives from you forsure, I checked out your Web page and it says coming soon your work is awesome brother 🇺🇲😎✅
The website was supposed to be taken down because I don't use it anymore, but I do hope to have some knives available for purchase this fall, I will make an announcement here on the channel when I do. I appreciate you watching.
Thanks! I appreciate you watching! Just always make sure to leave plenty of material to forge it, they are fairly easy when you do it like that, it's when you cut it too short that it can get to be a pain. If your forging hidden tangs regulary right now you should be fine. ABS Mastersmith Burt Foster offers some video classes on his website that cover forging the tang of a knife, the class is fairly cheap and completely changed my approach to knife forging. Here is the link to the class: burtfoster.com/products/basic-blade-forging-video?_pos=2&_sid=5291a47eb&_ss=r
Yep, thats what the spec sheet says. I haven't had any problems with hunting knives or kitchen cutlery the way I do it, but if I were doing a chopper or bushcraft knife, something that was going to be used and abused I would absoloutley do the 4 hours over the 2 that I do for toughness. Here is where I got the info on the cycle I currently use. www.tophamknifeco.com/how-to-heat-treat-5160-spring-steel/ I appreciate the infoand I appreciate you watching.
I get my tech info straight from the steel supplier. Speedy Metals and New Jersey Steel Baron. You wont have any problems, until you dont want one. Forge On!!!
That is 100% true, I will make sure to use and mention the proper tempering cycles in future videos. I appreciate you taking time to comment and then reply to my comment. It's people like you that take time helping others that makes me so appreciateive of the knife making community. Thanks again!
Thanks! I need to get a hot stamp for when I leave the forge finish on the knives, my etching machine don't do well unless it has a better finish. I appreciate you watching.
@@Mysticmountainforge Everyone may make great hot stamps - but I'll vouch For Buckeye Engraving. He knows what he is doing and will happily help you through the process.

Really nice work! Are full tang knives harder than hidden tangs? I have only made hidden and I am thinking about trying something new.

@@Mysticmountainforge Thank you so much!
So, as a new knife maker... Forge, do bevels to midline, thermal cycle, quench, sharpen/refine bevels, handle.
Did i miss anything?
Make sure to temper after quench, other than that you got it. I appreciate you watching.
👌
Thanks! I appreciate you watching.
5160 spec sheets say use Parks AAA for quench and to temper for 2 hours, twice. Four hours total.
Forge On!!!
