Benoit Pagotto: Fashion Brands Are Getting Community Building Wrong | The Business of Fashion

- At the BoF Professional Summit, RTFKT’s co-founder explained why he agreed to sell to Nike in 2021, and unpacked how brands can leverage web3 and associated technologies to grow their communities.
“A lot of brands are getting it wrong - they need to stop thinking about their business and ask instead: ‘what can I do for my community?’” said Benoit Pagotto, co-founder of virtual fashion start-up RTFKT Studios.
Pagotto added that fashion brands need to invest in incentivising individuals to build an engaged community in the long run.
Giving people access to digital assets or tokens such as NFTs, which can increase in value over time, helps customers feel they are contributing to a brand’s growth story, he explained, but adding that brands also need a new mindset.
“The word ‘consumer’ is over,” he said, noting how the democratising nature of the web3. “has shifted power to the individual, and now brands’ communities will define their value.”

I'm surprised how this doesn't have many views when honestly Benoit made so much sense in everything he was saying haha
Very insightful dialogue! It may seem that these points are on the surface , but so many brands (even global ones) fail to address them..
Yes Ben!!! Love this.
Really brilliant and informative! Thank you Benoit - wish your talk was longer! Interested to hear so much more
100% agree with how long gaming was positioned in a negative light (time wasting)
So smart to buy all those NFTs......

I think Benoit has really good/innovative ideas but I’m having trouble understanding him because he doesn’t pause between sentences. If you look at the transcript there are barely any periods/commas😅
Touche' Imran, Touche'
damn this guy had such a different childhood then I. I got to go call and thank my friends and parents for all they did
Spent today trying to 'get it'....have come to the conclusion, so far, that this is an avenue for money laundering. And I don't see how LVMH will not become gatekeepers of data considering they built their new system with Microsoft. To me, the quality of artwork essentially, that this is based upon as an excuse for new format currency, is crap. Exceptionally poor quality, uncreative, and looks like a target market of children. Who is buying this stuff!? I say this as someone in the early stages of launching a luxury brand deciding if I should offer NFT's.
You should put wording of sentences on some of these people with huge accents cause it's so hard to understand some these guys just a tip.
Geeks Will Inherit the Earth
He says "Can we do anything different", he does this by selling digital Nike shoes.
Yep look very original to me. Jumping on someone else's hype is all he's done.
I think you've missed the whole point
To wear dirty shoes on a fashion channel. Yep a gamer. Its a year later and who's talking about NFTs now. Nobody.
