True story, my current car at 145,xxx miles has been the most reliable car I've ever owned and it was a lemon law buy-back. Simply said, mine was an early production car and had a non-repairable problem for which the auto maker simply bought it back, repaired it with improved parts, and 12 years later is still doing just fine. Normally I don't keep cars this long, and normally I buy new - but this was just a no-brainer that worked out.
I purchased a 2015 Acura TLX a while back with a manufacturer buyback branded title. The car has been a great car to enjoy and drive. So far so good! 🤞
Your car is a lemon. I have a 2017 mustang gt which was burning oil from the begining. Had to add 3 quarts between oil changes to bring it back to normal levels. Long story short engine lost compression on cylinder 4 and 8. Dealer replaced entire engine for new one and gave if back to me. 10 miles into the new engine and CEL turns back on. Took it to dealer and New PCM was installed. Gave it back to me 20 miles in and CEL is back on took it to dealer and Intake runners were broken. Long story short FORD is Finally buying it back from me. Car only has 12800 miles.
I bought a Jeep Wrangler 4xe 2022 that was a manufacturer buyback. It was bought back due to a part taking more than 30 days to come in. It had 1500 miles and original msrp of 61k. Got it for 41k otd. Part was replaced and warranty was extended 12 months more and unlimited miles. So far I couldn't be happier. Hopefully this thing holds up over time. Carfax and Experian auto check both show clear title.
Great video. I bought a 335d that was a lemon buy back. Ended up fixing the issue that caused it's buy back and been a great car. Also bought $10k cheaper than similar equipped 335d's at the time.
I had a lemon Jeep wrangler that I bought a while ago, dealer took it back but it was painful and I broke that relationship with that dealer. I'm just thankful that I was able to get out of that car and into a Camaro
I bought a 2001 Jag XKR in 2004 (it was a one owner before used dealership sold it to me) it was a lemon buy back, original owner had it repaired...service records showed only regular maintenance, come to find out the entire engine was replaced with one that had a 020911 engine, which means it has the improved engine for 2002s, better materials (metal vs plastic) for timing chain tensioners and waterpump impellers...runs as good now (Dec/2023) as it did in 04 (now has 97k miles on it.
I have a 96 Buick Roadmaster that is a Lemon Law buyback out here in California. I bought it @ 19 years old & 70,000 miles; I bought it from the 2nd owner who took it to a chain lube center and drove it. 23+MPG on the highway & VERY comfortable. Thanx Gene
Car uses no oil & goes WELL; oil change tomorrow and off to Reno for BBQ, up I-80 across to South Lake Tahoe & back down Highway-50; 250+ miles & half a tank of gas
Good points, but it's only advised for cars you plan to keep forever. Because the resale value will be permanently diminished compared to a car with a clean title.
Bought a 93 T-Bird SC with 90,000 miles that had Fords DIS electronic spark ignition. Kept throwing a code for cam sensor. Car will run without sensor reading but you will not get correct spark advance and reduced performance. Turns out the car was a Lemon buy back and was never fixed. I finally traced the issue to the wiring harness, the computer that was in the car was damaged and was probably replaced at least once. The ground shielding for the Crank Sensor was broken and the square AC wave from the crank sensor was damaging the circuits in the EEC. Only by taking the computer out and installing it in another car was I able to realize the computer was damaged and the issue followed into a perfectly fine running car. I replaced computer in the 93 and the code came back, then I knew it was in wiring and had to dig through the engine harness to find the broken wire. I will never buy a Lemon car again.
You fucking spooked me, Rob. My parents just got me my first car, a 2016 Mustang Ecoboost Premium, and when you started talking about the Mustang, my heart dropped! Lol
I came across a 2013 5th gen Viper for 68k, had electrical issues with recharging and tpms. It had 5,000mi I decided not to because you can buy a Viper with a good title for 70k.
Love the look of what looks like a baby blue possibly white (depends if it's the light making it look like that) Gallardo how old and how much would one of those go for?
Gilbert Bedwell IV Yea, I didn't think you could buy declared Lemon cars from dealers. But if you want to make fun of me go ahead, it's the internet, what can I do?
i dont live in usa or canada but i saw a documentary about it a couple years ago... its really good law . im from saudi arabia and only what is written in the warranty is what you can claim ...
So I’m looking at a 2011 VW GTI with like 80,000 miles and it’s under lemon law. Would this be something that would be ok to buy. It’s super cheap and definitely could be a really good buy.
I'm looking at a Grand Cherokee that is a lemon from 18 with 24k miles, what can I do in regards to the reason for making it a lemon? Can I ask for proof? I called the dealer and they said it's a lemon due to a radio issue but I don't trust these dealerships.
Just so you know, the Lemon Law is varies so much from state to state. In MA, your automatically have a Lemon Law protection. As with NH, it's buyer beware, no lemon law.
California can be a good place to look for lemon law cars. Their repurchase laws are so lenient that a manufacturer can be forced to repurchase a car without a reproducible problem. Many unscrupulous car owners will ditch their cars in such a manner either because their financial situations change abruptly, or sometimes just before the vehicle's warranty expires, getting back oftentimes quite a bit of their investment in the process. Other states (like Georgia) have such strict repurchase laws that a car can be in the shop multiple times for the same issue and the manufacturer can still legally refuse to repurchase the vehicle. The other question to consider about a repurchase is this: how was the manufacturer able to successfully repair the vehicle only after it was repurchased? Usually, it will be in their best interest to repair the vehicle while it is owned by the customer rather than lose money on a repurchase. Fortunately, a repurchased vehicle usually will be resold with a 12 month warranty form the manufacturer on the repurchase repair in question, so that's an important detail to discern prior to purchasing such a vehicle.
Seems like the smart play would be to lease a lemon-law buyback. You've got years of warranty left and when you're done with it, just walk away. Do dealers lease 'lemoned' cars?
So I’m trying to buy this car and was sold back to the manufacturer twice for the same issue.. do I stay away from it or look more into it and see if it actually got worked on
Looking to buy it a 17/18 Subaru WRX my local dealer has 4 at the lot but all are lemons title all the cars are out of state.......I don’t like that.🤷🏻♂️
Australia, we don't have lemon laws so if you like a jeep or something European like a Citroen and have major issues then you're screwed or you'll have to sue the dealership
Except we DO have lemon laws, and the ACCC can order a manufacturer to buy [x] through [x] VIN cars back at full price if they're found to have consistent problems over multiple different cars, they were right on the verge of doing this with Jeep for the earlier grand cherokees electrical problems, even before it came out that they're doing a recall for the gear selector in the US but not Aus (yet). ACCC are riding jeeps ass so hard right now they don't dare refuse anything.
My mom has a 2014 Chevy cruse. It has a belt Squeak. It's been in the dealer 3 times now with now fix. Problem is, my mom hit the curb and the under siding of the car got bent. Does not mean the lemon law does not work for us?
What do you think about buying a lemon law buyback car that had a defective OnStar and navigation ? Do you think I will have problems with this car in the future ?
I bought a 2010 Chevy back in 2013 it was a lemon...they said they fixed all problems and inspected it and made sure there were no other problems....worst mistake of my life, so much shit has been braking down on it only in 3 years and I bought it at only 50,000 miles as well....never buy lemons it's not worth it! Invest a little more money for a new car or you will end up paying way more in repairs anyways :/ life lesson learned the hard way
i way rather buy a salvage title car then a lemon. he says the issue is foxed and then the car is sold but a lot of cars that have a lemon title have reoccurring issues. like let's say your dash cracks. you get the car fixed then it happens 3 more times. just because they fix it the 4th time doesn't mean it won't happen again
That car might look like a lemon to you but you know what I think of when I look at that yellow Mustang? I think it would be an excellent car for a personal trainer. Muscle to muscle, power to power. And they look good while you make a good living.
well if its a manual ecoboost, it could eventually be a lemon (well, warranty). the ecoboosts are known for some high load, low rpm detonation. dont floor it in 6th at like 50mph.
I got a 2003 V6 Mustang for my first car, it's been pretty great to me with over 170k miles, run hard. It used to be a rental car (that's actually a really good option because the rental companies do really good maintenance). It's always a crap shoot buying a used car, I got lucky. If you're on a budget and looking for a used car, there are way too many variables to say what is and what isn't a good car. If you're buying used, good guidelines are always, buy from a dealer (even if it's a small dealer, you might pay extra compared to an individual seller, but they are a lot more upfront about the problems with the car and will be willing to greatly reduce the price or work with you to make you buy the car). In general, sports cars are kind of dangerous, because they are notorious for being pushed harder than other cars. One-owner is usually more preferable. And when you test drive it, make sure you do different kinds of driving, slow tight turns, acceleration, braking, highway, street, listen for noises or loss of function. Again, used... there really is no way to say what is good and what is bad, it's more so about the options and price you give yourself! (VW beetles are known to be reliable, long-lasting, and easy to work on)
I feel like my Mitsubishi Lancer GTS could have been a lemon given the fact that the first two gears from factory were fucked. Thankfully they fixed it haha, even though they didn't pay for the clutch replacement...
I hope you don't expect to make $75,000 at 15. The jobs you can work are pretty limited. I suggest cutting people's grass. It's fast and easy. Or do whatever everyone else does and work at McDonald's. To each his own I suppose. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It’s lemon for a reason , people are so desperate they settle for less , so many regular cars and you want a branded car just for the good name but that girl your trying to impress can’t tell the difference between a v6 or a v8 . It’s all in your mind . Don’t buy any car like that
Do you think this might come off as a zero-content video? I mean, it is some food for thought but you said that you've never come across one that you'd buy personally. Maybe I missed something?
On second thought, I don't really care. I'm positive that there's something to take away from this and I'll leave my original post up, because it was honest. I do appreciate that you post regularly and I enjoy your content.

I purchased a 2015 Acura TLX a while back with a manufacturer buyback branded title. The car has been a great car to enjoy and drive. So far so good! 🤞
Update?
My mustang does not hit crowds I have taken it to the dealer 3 times for this issue, it has not been fixed? Is it a lemon?
Your car is a lemon. I have a 2017 mustang gt which was burning oil from the begining. Had to add 3 quarts between oil changes to bring it back to normal levels. Long story short engine lost compression on cylinder 4 and 8. Dealer replaced entire engine for new one and gave if back to me. 10 miles into the new engine and CEL turns back on. "You won't get a lemon at Toyota of Orange"
Lemon Grove, CA has a few dealerships. Who would buy it there?
Such BS haha! So true
And the dealer paper plates are literally lemons with 🚫
Dammit, now that's in my head... Thanks.

These videos are great. Thanks for providing real world advice for the average buyer.
Great video. I bought a 335d that was a lemon buy back. Ended up fixing the issue that caused it's buy back and been a great car. Also bought $10k cheaper than similar equipped 335d's at the time.
like to hear the stories that support my advice!
superspeedersRob and I love when a video supports my purchase decisions. I look forward to a model 3 video in a couple years as I have one reserved.
I had a lemon Jeep wrangler that I bought a while ago, dealer took it back but it was painful and I broke that relationship with that dealer. I'm just thankful that I was able to get out of that car and into a Camaro

I have a 96 Buick Roadmaster that is a Lemon Law buyback out here in California. I bought it @ 19 years old & 70,000 miles; I bought it from the 2nd owner who took it to a chain lube center and drove it. 23+MPG on the highway & VERY comfortable.
Thanx
Gene
are you saying that it worked out good for you?
Car uses no oil & goes WELL; oil change tomorrow and off to Reno for BBQ, up I-80 across to South Lake Tahoe & back down Highway-50; 250+ miles & half a tank of gas
very cool, sound like a great car. have fun.
Love the lemon law in MI ! Its like 3 or 4 times back to the dealer with same problem and you qualify.
Same thing with Wisconsin. I don’t think Illinois is as good.
Just FYI, but AAA will not insure a Lemon Law Buyback vehicle. I just looked into this on a Focus RS.
Good points, but it's only advised for cars you plan to keep forever. Because the resale value will be permanently diminished compared to a car with a clean title.
You also bought in at a lower price point though.
Thanks for informing about the lemon law. I didn't know the in and outs of how it worked. This is sorta similar to buying a refribished TV
Bought a 93 T-Bird SC with 90,000 miles that had Fords DIS electronic spark ignition. Kept throwing a code for cam sensor. I bought a lemon but back 2013 corolla. I’ve had it for eight years now with absolutely no issues.
Thank you for this video. So, a « lemon car » is basically a refurbished vehicle, somewhat like a refurbished Apple Laptop? Thanks again.
Does having a lemon buy back make it hard to get insurance coverage like salvage title?
What if I don't like yellow? Is there an orange law?
Love the look of what looks like a baby blue possibly white (depends if it's the light making it look like that) Gallardo how old and how much would one of those go for?
I never knew such a thing existed.
really? I mean really?

It was well known up in Maryland, most of the time they will send the car to auction which deletes the lemon title.
Gilbert, I never knew a lemon car existed and that is because i don't live in America.

I'll do that challenge if you pay $500 for my lawyer.
So I’m looking at a 2011 VW GTI with like 80,000 miles and it’s under lemon law. Would this be something that would be ok to buy. It’s super cheap and definitely could be a really good buy.
Real talk! And now I know where the term "lemon" comes from. We have no such law over here. At least nothing called like this.
Off topic but you should but a trophy truck thing lol what do you think rob?? Cause LA has a lot of desert land I think idk what's everyone's thoughts
I'm looking at a Grand Cherokee that is a lemon from 18 with 24k miles, what can I do in regards to the reason for making it a lemon? Can I ask for proof? I called the dealer and they said it's a lemon due to a radio issue but I don't trust these dealerships.

I just back Maserati ghibli to New Jersey dealer EMG Maserati ghibli for wheel drive has big problem and they still sale that car
WOW! I go for a nap and wake up in 2017.
what makes a car become a lemon buyback? problems internally?
So I’m trying to buy this car and was sold back to the manufacturer twice for the same issue.. do I stay away from it or look more into it and see if it actually got worked on
How do you find or where do you buy a lemon car?

How does one buy a lemon, do you just go to a dealer and ask if they have lemons for sell?
What about a 2010 e63 amg with 50k miles for 27 grand that's a lemon???

can someone explain what the lemon law is?
Man, I really love when there's a video or a picture that has been around for a long time but suddenly it becomes relevant because of some meme.
My mom has a 2014 Chevy cruse. It has a belt Squeak. It's been in the dealer 3 times now with now fix. Problem is, my mom hit the curb and the under siding of the car got bent. Does not mean the lemon law does not work for us?

Good question R 100. I'm going through that exact issue with a STI anyone has any information?
good advice Rob. It's always a gamble
You know who says that lemons are good for you? Personal trainers

What do you think of the Dodge Charger/Challanger SRT8? I'm wanting to buy one but want some opinions

the pricing must compairable to a r-titled vehicle , now if I could people to realize there r-titled rides are not the same as a clean title

well if its a manual ecoboost, it could eventually be a lemon (well, warranty). the ecoboosts are known for some high load, low rpm detonation. dont floor it in 6th at like 50mph.
thanks good to know. may I ask if this is from personal experience or hear say?
Hey Rob, im looking to buy my first car. Any suggestions on a good, reliable, easy to maintain car?
something with a warranty.

Maybe the Ford GT will turn out to be a lemon and you will be able to buy one ;)

look at rob, getting back at ford for not letting him buy a gt by making us subconsciously associate the ecoboost mustang with lemons.
it's a Ford. making it an automatic lemon car
I agree.
