Poor Asuka has so little relevance to the actual story.
Wait for Tekken 9:
Asuka will make it to the final battle and use her Kazama powers to destroy Reina. She becomes the the protagonist after almost three decades of having zero relevance to the plot.

Gameplay wise Tekken is the best of them all, lore wise it's the weakest in my opinion😂

Now that Reina exists, Asuka being underused feels even MORE frustrating, because you think "oh so Tekken CAN have a schoolgirl related to Jin who is central into the main story"

I know nothing about Tekken lore but these two together remind me so much of Karin and Sukura from Street Fighter.
They actually are based off the two characters, or at least the dynamic. Lili being Karin and Asuka being Sakura.
The key difference was that in all the games until Tekken 8, they hated each other and wanted to fight to beat the other.
But in Street Fighter, Karin and Sakura became friends who fought purely for fun.

When Asuka and Hwoarang met, I felt confused because I thought "wait, they NEVER met?". I mean, they're literally Jin's cousin and Jin's friend/rival, strange how they nver canonically met
honestly its not that suprising, i am pretty sure this the first game Jin and Asuka met canonically also btw, also Harada Retconned Jin/Asuka being cousins according to him they arent cousins but very distant relatives
I don't think Jin and Asuka have met cannonically in the lore, Asuka's stories have no connection with Jin and they are only connected because they share the same last name so Hwoarang had never met her.
Most of Asuka's stories are just arguing and fighting Lili or getting revenge at Lei for trashing their dojo, honestly she was written horribly in the Tekken series as it looks like the game writers does not know where to place her as it took T5-T8 just to got her a role in the main story line as a side character

Its a kansai(a region in japan) thing to do called Boke & Tsukkemi which roughly means "accept a misunderstanding, making a comment that the person expects to receive and then denying it"

They're relatives. Asuka comes from a different branch of the Kazama clan. The Kazama Clan sort of functions like the family clans in Naruto. All members of the Kazama Clan uses the same style of martial arts and share the surname but most of them are distantly related.
