Refreshingly open and educational discussion, I do hope some of the other FPV equipment manufacturers get involved and help Carl to use this technology to realise its full potential.
Really amazing to get Carl in an interview. Your previous vids also provide a good structure for the topics you're covering with him. I love how down-to-the ground and open he is about the whole thing and that he also honestly admits the issues and benefits of the current system and where to improve. This is a great base for uncovering all of its potential in the future. I really hope we get some high-quality compact 1W VTXs using this system, and maybe some high quality goggles with full integration of this video-link as well! The more I learn about this HDZero link, the more I like it. Maybe in the future we're not calling it sharkbyte but just HDZero and many manufacturers produce parts for it, just like back in good old analog times? :)
I think that's going to be the outcome. More and more momentum is building for this system. Racing pilots are using it now and lots of videos are coming out about the system. In a couple of years this system will have replaced analog mostly I predict.
EXCELLENT VIDEO!!!! Thank you Chris and thank you Carl for taking the time give us users a glimpse into the nuts and bolt of digital video transmission..
Even though I fly DJI, I really love stuff like this and wish the best to the Carl and HDZERO, hopefully they can succeed and get more companies using their asics for fpv stuff
Carl, thank you for an already excellent product and a potentially amazing one in the future! I'm very glad to be along for the ride. Chris, thank you for putting this content out there.
This was a great interview, thanks for sharing with us. I'm also glad to hear you plan on doing a test using high speed cameras instead of the photo-diode test. I think people have no idea what that ms number is that they love to talk about. I look forward to your video with cameras, and hopefully that helps people understand it's not as simple as a number. I've always maintained high speed cameras were the right way to show latency.
BIG THX Carl & Chris for that deep dive - very interesting concept , sounds to me like the elegant way to port all the analog RF behavior we want to digital + some really clever features 👌. To hear Carl talking about HDzero as his last project before retirement is amazing ( a guy with knowledge and a plan ) - he seems to be extremely dedicated and to have a clear vision for the system and the use case in FPV ...in my opinion it's worth supporting, i want to see a wide variety of HDzero Rx/Tx hardware that allows an open market like we use to have with VTX and FCs. ...maybe at some point we can have more steps added to do computational imaging - maybe for super low light/IR imaging when latency is not the top priority.
I somehow really felt his true passion and the dream that he strive for. I really hope for the best for the HD0 system and fpv as a whole! Awesome content chris, thanks!
I am very happy to see this video, especially to hear about Carl's work, so I am very excited to see how Carl'l's dream will come true in the future. Thanks to both.

It meight not be as good as DJI yet, but they are listening to the community and trying to improve it, they have passion for it. And that makes the hobby so amazing.
Thanks for posting this Chris! Really cool to see Carl as well. Such a great message Carl mentioned at the end. So awesome to see someone with such a big dream and heart to keep moving forward with the HDZero system!
A fantastic interview by both parties. Wonderful technical insights within the limits of casual and accessible conversation, especially into the heterogeneity of the ECC implementation.
Very detailed interview well done lots of great information and I am so excited for the future of HDZero and where the company Divimath is heading and thanks so much Chris and Carl for all you both do for our amazing hobby!
Amazing content, I really want to support HDZero is clear for me that the technology is backed by someone who cares about our community! Buying SharkByte today. Thanks Chris and Carl for the quality content.
Chris, outstanding video, which has touched everyone who saw it, I’m sure, especially the last bit, where Carl shows his dedication. He deserves more financial support than he’s getting and I think that viewers of this video and others would be willing to pledge money directly to Carl. Could you ask Carl to set up a crowd funding option, and then can you publicise it, using the last part of this interview as part of the publicity campaign? Hope you agree, this guy deserves our support.
I think the best support we can show Carl is to buy lots of HDZero gear. I'm going to be doing a racing build with the system very soon! I'll mention crowdfunding to him.
Wow. Thanks for pulling back the curtain. I wonder if there is some problem with the "intraframe" error correction 42:15. The current error correction scheme seems to make errors look worse than they should. When I look at video frame-by-frame, the error bits at a casual glance seem random and high contrast to neighboring pixels. At a closer look, maybe the error bits are simply grabbed from values too far away within the frame. A smear from adjacent pixels would likely be better. Even better would be to include values from the previous frame, but that's impossible without memory.
Thanks for doing this. Great perspective, insight, and transparency. Thanks for always providing knowledge and countering all the propaganda in the industry.
Thx Carl for doing HDzero and hope it grows strong and soon some good companies (TBS please 😄) join and help building VTX and stuff so you can give us even better HDZero Versions 👍🏻
Absolutely bloom'n amazing interview. I thought all along it was shaping up to be a pitch to other fpv manufacturers. Really hope other manufacturers aren't stupid and get on board. The tech does sound as future proof as possible but at the same time very competitive. And that love is sent straight back to Carl. Hope the display chip in my SkyZone O30's handles that HDMI signal with little or no latency! Love to see a high speed video test of the OLED goggles.
@@ChrisRosser I have heard the screens in the O30's are the same as the HDO2's. If that is the case, I wouldn't mind betting their also using the same display chip. But, I don't know anything about all the electronics... I don't know if the HDMI can be handled differently.
@@sylvanlight120 I think the displays in the HDO2 is the same as the Sky04x and similar to the Sky03O (but not identical). I wouldn't be surprised if the drive electroncis is very similar!

Fantastic information Chris, this is the first of its kind when speaking of HDZero... Much thanks to Carl for taking on this huge task and making it work... its going to get better in time I believe and as the tech becomes available to update and upgrade... I am very happy with SharkByte as apposed to DJI... THANK YOU to the both of you... 😉👍💯
The man is getting emotional about his journey and love for fpv and FPV pilots. He admits and laughs at his mistakes but thanks the community for helping him. What is there NOT to like about Carl? All the best to you buddy👍🏾
Great interview! He talked about prioritisation of data based on SNR. So it seems that there is some bidirectional communication happening between VTX and VRX in the Sharkbyte?
Communication is one way. The goggles don't transmit. I think all the prioritisation is done in the encoding and transmission. It's a pretty sophisticated system!
I don't have much background in ASICs but I do remember hearing about it back in 2008 when I was installing and configuring Xylan switches(Cisco, BayNetworks, etc competitor) where backplane is extremely fast. Maybe the asics used on those switches can be used in our goggles to make transmission really fast?
An asic is any specialized silicon chip. It is hardwired for a certain function, in this case it is video modulation for wireless transmission, in those switches it was switching packets. They can be orders of magnitude faster than a general processor
Now, on the cusp of 2024, right after the wide release of the Walksnail gogglesX, I see this video and make up my mind to buy the Hdzero Goggles instead. Thanks Mr. Rosser for that interview with Carl. In this case a better understanding of the technology behind the system the goggles are designed for, AND understanding why the goggle was made to be as versatile as possible--all info from the top source found in this video--was vital in guiding my purchase choice. It's not going to help me explain to my wife why I just spent 600 bucks, a sizable percentage of my gross monthly income, on a pair of goggles--again. But if she only knew how nice you guys both seem--maybe... 🤔
Top video Chris. Off topic question. There is a trend towards 2004/5 motors for 5125/30 props. Based on your previous video shouldn't a 1408 spin these better due to greater stator volume? Sorry its off topic but I couldn't find an appropriate recent video to ask. Regards.
I really hope other companies have been impressed by the HD ZERO and feel motivated and inspired to take Carl's system and run with it. It'd be foolish if they didn't. I personally am really impressed the vtx/vrx doesn't have a DDR and is straight through image processing to transmission to receiver and reconstruction. That's how he keeps latency so low. Incredible.
Great interview! Wondering if the shark byte module is futureproof, and firmware update is all it requires? Because in the video Carl seems to talk about improving the range and penetration with better vtx, can i assume that the current module has been perfected and will work with the future vtx's?
Because you can run either more mw or you can reduce to 30 fps which will still have latency superior to dji hq mode and be either higher resolution, or you can make the data easier to penetrate. Notice your remote can penetrate more at 25mw than you video link could at 600mw? Same logic. And Because shark byte latency is very low and locked, there is head room to either run 1080p 30fps HQ MODE or a 720p 30fps freestyle/bando mode. And the standard 720 60fps for low latency race or low demand freestyle locations
@@anthonyfpvminiquad1728 Can i assume that the future improvement will just be on the camera and vtx's, and buying SB now is a no brainer for $99? haha

@@sylvanlight120 I think the displays in the HDO2 is the same as the Sky04x and similar to the Sky03O (but not identical). I wouldn't be surprised if the drive electroncis is very similar!
Thanks Carl for your work and Chris, you are the best I really love your videos. Keep it up man!!!
Thanks! Should be an exciting few weeks for videos. I've got potentially 3 frame launches, a video on carbon fibre and latency testing with a high speed camera!
An absolute brilliant interview 👌
Thank you!
thank you for your dedication!
Fantastic interview! Thank you
You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I've really been enjoying flying Shark Byte. It keeps improving and trending in the right direction, so I'm pretty confident in its future.
Carl is a lovely chap eh... wish him and his company all the best and it allows me to say this......
SCREW YOU DJI... YOU'LL NEVER GET A PENNY OF MY MONEY. sticking to analogue for now but the future looks good with HD Zero.
Haha, great comment! Thanks!
Thanks Carl and ofc Chris!
Brilliant..Nice to see somebody pushing the HD ecosystem and not jumping on the Dji bandwagon..😉
well crap thanks for the introduction! Carl is an awesome guy, Divimath to the moon! 👌
Excellent interview!
Amazing tech. And very well explained. Thanks!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video.
fantastic man! great when engineer want to make somthing that will "change the game" :) even when there is huge corporation on the market. Respect!
Great video Chris. Thank you.
Great content!! Thanks
Thank you for the support!
This makes me want to sell my dji setup and switch to sharkbyte to support Carl
Super great work Carl
Buddy Bless
We Love You to Carl...
All the best to you buddy👍🏾
amazing questions
thx for this interview
I own the DJI system. I don't know why but watching this video makes me want to buy the system Carl is creating
super cool interview! that luminesce y space tho...
Carl is awesome, I've had nothing but positive experiences with him :)
any plans to add audio into the equation?
Top video Chris. Off topic question. There is a trend towards 2004/5 motors for 5125/30 props. Based on your previous video shouldn't a 1408 spin these better due to greater stator volume? Sorry its off topic but I couldn't find an appropriate recent video to ask. Regards.
Are there any plans for future improvements for HDZero ?
I really hope other companies have been impressed by the HD ZERO and feel motivated and inspired to take Carl's system and run with it. It'd be foolish if they didn't. I personally am really impressed the vtx/vrx doesn't have a DDR and is straight through image processing to transmission to receiver and reconstruction. That's how he keeps latency so low. Incredible.
Me too. I think that is certainly where this is headed. In a few years this technology will replace analog for all but the very lowest cost solutions.
@@anthonyfpvminiquad1728 Can i assume that the future improvement will just be on the camera and vtx's, and buying SB now is a no brainer for $99? haha
Buying it now for 99 USD is an absolute no brainer. The VRx will support higher power VTx in the future.
@@ChrisRosser Alright! Another month of oatmeals here i come! (Jk)😂😂
Rush! Make a Divimath/HDZero vtx!
