  • Nurse PPE donning order (personal protective equipment) tutorial #shorts video. In this quick video, Nurse Sarah demonstrates one possible sequence for putting on PPE. There are actually multiple sequences available for donning PPE.
In addition, some facilities may use additional PPE such as a face shield, shoe covers, or different types of gowns/equipment.
Always verify your facility's PPE protocols and required PPE order and equipment when using PPE in a healthcare setting.

I’m a double glover. One set under the gown thumb loops and one set over. When I pull the gown off the outer gloves come with it and then I have the inner gloves to grab wipes and/or get out that questionable door that everyone still touches with dirty hands. I wipe it all down to leave everything better than I found it. The double gloving is also good for when the outer set inevitably rips.

That’s level 3 of PPE where I’m from, the hardest PPE to wear was a bunny suit and a full PPE

Interesting. My brother is in an ICU recovering from Covid since last October. He is currently being evaluated for lung transplant. The PPE requirements are a bit different, depending on the facility. In the Acute care facility, we are required to don the yellow suit, sanitize hands and then glove. Staff uses the blue suits. At the hospital, we are not required to do anything other than mask and proof of vaccinations. We are in California and Kaiser.

A well sealing and filtering respirator mask is the main thing that's needed for COVID and whenever there are sprays, sealed/non-vented eye protection is a good idea. The suits etc likely make no difference when it comes to transmission. Though they are probably a good idea for Monkeypox. What doesn't make sense is to have a leaky mask such as a surgical one while using a face shield, especially if there aren't sprays involved. You're getting 50% leakage on average which might extend the time enough for monkey pox (though it's not ideal) but not COVID. The lower dose should help at least.

I hope he gets better soon. Needing lung transplants due to COVID is unfortunately a very real issue. Heart damage as well along with a multitude of other issues. I know someone who was extremely fit and careful with what he ate and young who got permanent lung damage from COVID he got in the Spring of 2020. A higher dose at the time of infection can increase the likelihood of bad cases/long COVID. I also know an older person who used to race who also got long damage from COVID he got in Spring 2020. The overall increased demand for lung transplants, heart care etc has made it harder for everyone who needs such care. Vaccinations are so important to greatly reduce hospitalizations, and other bad outcomes to help everyone who needs care (including beyond COVID). I hope the vaccines and treatments continue to improve.

In my experience, most facilities cannot afford to assume risk for people wanting to enter. Most often, really always from what I've seen, a N95 is not available but families cannot normally enter an aerosolized room regardless. We cannot really get involved anymore with properly preparing families as people have resorted to harassing and berating us for our best intentions. Now, we just let everyone do whatever they feel is best, because they clearly know more in their minds. I hope your brother is placed quickly, and the transplant is a perfect match. God speed.
