I'd like to mention that sure I didn't let the engine warm up loads but however I did cut out a lot where it was running but not very well so the oil has circulated enough by the point of the scene I gave it another go and revd it up. Besides, I kept a close eye on the dash to make sure there wasn't a oil pressure warning and I did let it run for a few seconds to built some oil pressure. It wouldn't idle straight away so I had to apply a bit of throttle just to keep it running. That's why it sounded like it had a high idle at the start.
I like these type of videos. Most of them drag the cars out of their resting place before starting them. You just started up the Cavalier without dragging it out
Yes they had V6 versions. Cavaliers are worth a good £3500+ in good condition even in basic spec. If you’re able to restore it I’m sure you’ll have no trouble finding a buyer. I dread to think what a state the floor pan and chassis is after being sat there for who knows how long
That engine will prob be toast now seen as you was revving bollox off it and sat all that time you should have let it warm up first. Defo worth saving pal 🙏
I know that hurt me, that engine needs a rebuild by the sounds of it, my mom had an old K reg cav with the 8v engine we loved it, it lasted for years but at the time I knew nothing about cars and engines. I wish I could have saved her.
Had a G reg 2.0L same colour. Was a real sleeper with 2.0L badge on. Would indicate 138mph flat out before the advent of speed cameras. Driving to Germany and back regularly would cruise at 90-100 no problem. Looked such a plain car but was part the pleasure. Sold at 150k miles without a clutch or anything other than servicing. Don’t make them like this. Had a 2.0 primera after another fantastic car
Had a 1.7 turbo diesel was bullet proof was still going strong with 250k on the clock when it went to the scrap yard reckon it would of done another 250k . Rust got the better of sills wheel arches and floor pan seams were all rusted out at the end.
@@AzureecosseThe 1.7 CDTI's are nothing like the old 1.7td engine in cavaliers,They have an old skool mechanical pump for a start unlike the crap VP44 pumps the CDTI's like to eat.
Dads been meaning to start on it since it ran out of MOT when the chip in the windscreen turned into a big crack. He'll find time eventually. Just needs a good polish to start off with
Drives me crazy when I see classic or retro cars sitting to rot I don't think they made a estate in that mark them did in the MK2 Cavs and Astra's but I could be wrong I bet that will want welding underneath definitely sills and rear wheel archs just depends on how long I been sat and you shouldn't rev the nutts off it when its been cold and sat for a long time plus you didn't know wat the cam belt is like they are selling for good money now
She's pretty clean underneath. Been sitting since 2019ish. Chipped the windscreen on the way back from Dorset steam fair and the crack grew bigger. Dads been meaning to get a new windscreen since. but hes always found a car under the windscreen price. Think he got the timing belt changed shortly after he bought it but probably needs a change after sitting idk. I rather pushrods
Had one of these 1600cc hatchback same engine as this..... It was bomb proof, I was farming at the time and believe me farmers are rough and it took everything we could throw at it.... Never mind stupid dump valves and childish back firing not of that stupid crap, mind was a standard car and bloody brilliant never let me down.
Camshafts wore quickly and they burned oil , they had to detune this model over the previous 1600cc and reduced the HP by 8hp to combat wear and improve emissions. The previous simpler 90hp carburettor fed engine was stronger and more reliable unit but still had problems.
When you were driving it before how long did it usually take to start on freezing cold mornings? Did it take longer when it hadn't been used for several days?
WN at the end of the plate - south walian car. Swansea I think My dad had a brand new P reg merc sprinter that came from euro commercials swansea, "AWN" at the end of the plate

mad respect for all those boys since leaving car throttle
@@WestWalesFarmBoy100% they’ve done really well- car throttle isn’t the same anymore!

That was exactly what I was thinking. I was cringing big time
Yes little rev to get it going but fuck me, I'd never rev an engine that much when cold, but it's good to see an old cav great cars
Byebye engine should never floor it let it warm up.first
The old 8v takes it well..😂👌

I always left my cavalier in gear when I stored it in the garage. Got fed up with handbrake sticking
Aye happens with everything. It's weird because the handbrake was down but maybe me or my brother played in it a few years ago idk.

minted, seems like a good wee project. if you're in need of any advice don't hesitate to ask
Are you restoring it next? Id thought all the parts would had persished or seized actually apart from the exchast sounds ok.
Dads told me that the MOT man said it would need a new exhaust by the next one and that was back in 2019 I think
Rare car that being a pre facelift 1800 single point, most 1600 and 1800 pre facelifts where carb, this is one of the very last before facelift
think I prefer facelift tbh but dad want to keep it original so its up to him
If the price is fair...Dougie from UA-cam Channel...Once Driven Forever Smitten may buy it.

That definitely needs restoring. Rare now them.
i mean these 8v versions arnt hard to find seen one for like 600 quid on facebook

How dumb can you get revving it like that from cold 🤦🏼♂️
Yep he did so many things wrong 😏 didn’t even check the air filter for nests before starting it! Also left the handbrake on 🤦🏼♂️ what a tard!
What a great idea pinning it off the limiter when it’s been stood an age.
Word of advice? Don’t rag the feck out of an engine that hasn’t ran in years and is still cold. How thick are you?

u got something cheap?

aye. exhaust is rotten. the backfire noise was probably because I put to much either in the intake
love to have seen ya boots on the pedal , did u mash em up while revving or watch em on the pedal???

The one I had years ago started first time in the cold. Right upto 150k miles when someone drove into the side of it and killed it
I dont remember srry mate. Is yours petrol or diesel?

yes, made by Vauxhall in Luton, England and sold as their 3rd generation Cavalier. That factory actually made some Vectra As for Opel as well.
does seem like it doesnt it. Even now opels and vauxhall do it. I'd love a opel manta 400
Get some one with another car and tow the car to your house to work on as a project
