@@MNsportsnut let’s just say there were a bunch. Oilers we’re not ever fully accepted in Tennessee. Titans however the next year in a new building, totally different story.
@@o.i.c.uvanish9169 I wouldn’t say they “sucked.” They ranked 6th that year actually.. but they weren’t as good as that suggested. They usually played with a huge lead, and only had to prevent long passes. They definitely got exposed in the 98’ nfc championship game. Chris Chandler looked like Joe Montana that day.
Thank you for the complete game upload! The Oilers really played the Vikings close, but sure enough Randy Moss had to eventually break out. Love all the 1998 Vikings games
I recorded this game on VHS and been trying to convert it to mp4 and low and behold, you posted it. Awesome! Thank you for posting it on here. I also have the Oilers vs. Packers from the week before on VHS and I'll post it as soon as I can figure out how to convert it. Lol.
Do you have the following, the Raiders vs Oilers week 1 first game in Memphis since relocation? Also the first game in the 99 Season in their new stadium in Nashville?
I always thought was a bit strange that the '98 Vikings despite having a regular season for the ages appeared to be more interested in hunting records in this game. It was still a close game in the 2nd half, and they really didnt appear to get serious with Tennessee until Cunningham hit Carter for the TD. And then Moss with an outrageous catch over Denard Walker. And it was rather fitting that their regular season wrapped up at Vanderbilt Stadium in '98. Its also rather amazing that just a little over a year later, the former Oilers turned Tennessee Titans would be in the Super Bowl, and come up 1 yard short of winning it.
Yes, sadly, this was the last game ever for that logo. They did use that white derrick logo during the AFL commemoration games, but it doesn't come close to the one that you see in this game. Remember watching this game in my apartment back then..
Five Vikings have scored a touchdown in the state of Tennessee. Randy Moss ('98) Cris Carter ('98) Adrian Peterson x2 ('08) Eric Kendricks ('16) Danielle Hunter ('16) A very short but very good list I'd say.
I was at this game and 16 years old at the time. Sat toward the top of the bowl around the 30 or 40-yard line, but in 40,000-seat Vanderbilt Stadium, the top was still close enough to the field to have a great view. I remember getting tickets was easy. What I remember most about the non-game experience was a bunch of people making fun of the halftime performance (a college band) and a drunk man running down the icy/slushy bleachers as fast as he could before falling and tumbling into people's laps. 🤣 I loved the Vikings offense that year, and these two teams' helmets and uniforms were my favorite in the NFL.
@@s.tavares3257 It was the near end of astroturf, 3 divisions per conference, a few multi purpose stadiums left, many teams wearing different uniform suppliers and before the Patriots became the X Factor from 2001-2019
This game was still close in the 2nd half, the Vikings had to win this game to lock up home field advantage being that Atlanta was one game behind. The Jacksonville game became a blowout, so it made sense to give Johnson some reps.
The last game for the Oilers next year they become the current Tennessee Titans. For some reason they only wore their white uniforms for the entire year.
Randall McDaniel started 186 straight games over his 14 year career. He was selected All-Pro nine times, named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1990s, was voted to 12 consecutive trips to the Pro Bowl and was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2009.
@@ckobo84 A little slow in pass blocking, but Dixon created some nice space for RBs at times, and I thought they would have had even more success with their run game, had they ran behind Dixon more. But Billick was great at variety, and kept defenses guessing because of it.
Marty Gras I wish Billick had more say in the offensive calls in the 98’ championship game. They took a knee before halftime, and played very conservative down the stretch.. complete opposite of how they played all year. I felt that cost them the game as much as Anderson missing that field goal.

if only someone could go back to this time, go down on the field and tell McNair not to even give that chick the time of day 🤦🏽♂️ R.I.P. Air McNair & Dennis Green.
The announcer explained that while he wasn't IN the endzone, he was going towards it, and was throwing it away to avoid a safety, which is what it would have been, had he not been throwing it away to avoid the safety. So it sounds like it was actually a CORRECT call, so some other call will have to be the worst call you have ever seen.
Not even close to the 1 yard line ? Look again. He is between the 1 yard line and the endzone when the ball is released, and he is travelling backwards into the endzone at the time.
It's Matt Millen. Great player but ruined his legacy by taking over the front office of the Detroit lions a few years after this. He pretty much made the lions a joke for a decade. You can say the lions were always a joke but in the modern Era, Wayne fontes had some formidable teams. The Barry sanders Era.

Is it true there were more Vikings fans there than Tennessee fans?
@@MNsportsnut let’s just say there were a bunch. Oilers we’re not ever fully accepted in Tennessee. Titans however the next year in a new building, totally different story.
Even though I’m a Vikings fan, I’d have to disagree.. the 07’ Patriots were. Ironically, Moss played for them as well.
I love watching the 1998 Vikings. They were so explosive on offense. Defenses knew exactly what they wanted to do, and still couldn't stop them.
If you ask me, they were the offense everyone should be compared to. I mean, 98 was when the nfl didn't have all these rules like they have now.
