Awesome video, 👏🏾 Honorable mention to that meme and the T-shirt! 😂🏆
I hadn’t realized how accomplished LDT was, especially his involvement in baseball. I always associated his work with the early 1900s, but the facts that his seminal work was published in the mid 1900s and that he was with us until the 1970s shows that our research-informed understanding of Gullah is still not that old: Wow.

Not old at all! It’s new and much more still needs to be done. Thanks for watching.

What I'm so amazed at knowing is that LDT was a 2nd generation college student. In those times (era), it was very difficult to even go to school, even so, with further limitations to achieving past primary school. I praise both men, especially his Daddy, for giving LDT the tenacity to thrive within a world that thought we lacked intelligence.

This is of course quite interesting and amazing that you are sharing this information.
I am 62 years old and my ancestry is Gullah.
The Gullah people actually are bringing out the true identity of American-Africans natives.
The Gullah people are from Charleston South Carolina. They were brought there during the Trans-Atlantic slave trade in 1619.
In many negro spiritual songs our culture is expressing our people..!!!
Songs like, wade in the water, Kumba Yah which mean; come here or welcome back later on..!!?
Wah yhall come da yah fo? What bring you down here.?
Gullah is of course a Hebrew word, which means ancient Hebrew Israelite.
The Gullah language as Dr. Jessica mentioned was chosen by the tribes in west and central Africa..!!!
This was a way to combine many of the African languages during the Trans- Atlantic slave trade.
I am born and raised in the Orangeburg South Carolina. My last name is Ravenell and my family are originally from Charleston South Carolina..!!!!
I spoke Gullah from the time I was born and from 1rst to the 8th grade.
That's all my father and mother knew how to speak..!!!! My mother language skills in American-English was much better than my father, lol.
I meet a lot of people from western Africa in Europe especially from Gambia. I was able to understand a lot of the words about 20%.
Naturally, I had to speak American english so we could completely understand each other.
The people in west Africa are very fluent in English. I was surprised how well-spoken they were...😊😊😊😊.

Yes. I've been to both Liberia and Sierra Leone and linguistics are very similar. You should go.

The language isn't a real language it was a mixture of different tribes so they could communicate they don't know about this in Africa in fact the south Carolina man had what they call the Adam gene so what y'all saying I disagree and believe civilization started here first because American is the most fresh waters in the world and the best fruits Africa only has gold and other metals but America is truly the land of milk and honey 🙌🏿
