For me he always will be the star in "A Taste Of Honey" Utterly beguiling performance. Murray is a brilliant actor, he shines in every role, and, looks amazing considering he's in his late 80's here. Thanks for this wonderful interview. Such a sharp mind and a true gentle man.
RIP Murray. Hard to believe Murray is in his 80's in this interview. Used to see him occasionally as we both lived in Canada WTer, South London. Unfortunately I never plucked up the courage to talk to him.. Which I regret. Lovely soul..
I also saw him about in Canada Water. I chatted to him and he was a complete delight. So glad I did now he has passed. I found out recently (1)he left his body to medical science and (2) he had sponsored some boys from India and paid for their complete education and upbringing. Wonderful man. Being an actor I so wished I could have worked with him.
Wonderful actor. Have followed his career since I first saw the movie A Taste Of Honey. Have seen him about town several times and got up the courage to chat with him at a supermarket checkout. Absolutely delightful man who was very friendly, open, cultured and courteous. He is appallingly underused these days and I would love to see him at the National Theatre in a restoration production. He thoroughly deserves to be honoured in some way for his services to the arts.

further to my earlier comment i saw a taste of honey when i was about 6 on tv where murrays character was described as a homosexual in the tv times. my mum wouldnt tell me what it meant so i formed the conclusion due to his brilliant performance that it meant a really nice bloke and he is so right the characters sexuality makes no difference its how he behaves is the point.
wonderful actor seems an extremely nice man god rest his soul.yet i have been terrified by some of his performances and laughed out loud at others the mark of a truly great actor.
Seems Murray was type cast ,shoe salesman in Taste of Honey then recently he pops up as a Gentle man's outfitter in one of the Mission Impossible films and Princess Caraboo again a dressmaker. R.I.P.

This made me realise how much Littlewood has influenced all the plays I've ever seen, specifically One Man, Tow Governors.
