Anyone please tell me about the rule when Stakrud’s serve hits the net at 5:00, because in my country Vietnam, they continue to play when the ball hits the net as long as it doesnt drop in the kitchen?
Duong needs to just stay on the baseline and try to rip winners. Almost every time he comes to the kitchen he loses the point. Only come in when you have to.
I had the pleasure of watching Duong vs. Fed in person at the Virginia Beach Cup. Duong had ZERO soft game. To make the matter worse, he tried to hit passing shot all the time, and the passing shot success rate is very low. Fed has amazing footwork and anticipation to know where Duong hit the passing shot. Fed had no issue with Duong's serve. Duong has only beaten Ben twice but he also lost to Ben like four or five times. Duong needs to change his extreme western grip to maybe like Eastern grip, and until he does that, Fed and Ben will continue to own Duong. Duong even lost to Jack Sock, LOL...
I think it's more a mental block in this case. He has the shots to beat Fed, but often misses at crucial moments. He is more relaxed and fired up when playing against Ben, and has better results. About soft game, he has played doubles for a while now and is definitely better than ZERO. I think he and his coach deliberately choose to play this style in singles because they believe they can win with it. Regarding grip, I don't see any problems with the western grip. It could be problematic if you play 1HB (no time to switch grips at net), but Quang plays 2HB, he can topspin dink, rip ball from both side at either baseline or net, ... On the contrary, I think there will be more players with semi or full western grip in the future.
@@chubun6631 He has ZERO shot to beat Federico with his current style of play. Quang lost so many points at the kitchen line, and at 8-7 when Fed served, Quang had to hit three unbelievable shots to get the side-out. Quang is not going to beat better players with that playing style. Your statement of semi or full western grip on the PPA tour is just a fantasy. It will not work on the PPA tour because these are paddles, and they don't have strings.
11-1 is certainly a beat up, but saying 11-8 as ZERO shot is another exaggeration. These three shots were very good, but I wouldn't call them unbelievable. Pretty sure if you ask Quang if he can make shots like that 10x in practice, he would say yes. He just needs to make them under pressure. Pure speculation here but I think he and his staff believe that's within reach. I'll bet you won't see him trying a 'soft game' in singles any time soon. Regard the 'strings' argument, can you point out any deficiency in his forehand technique? At first his forehand had too much brushing and not enough penetration, but nowadays his pace and placement are as good as anybody's else. I don't see any reasons for him to give that up. Furthermore, current paddles have a lot more spin than a couple of years ago, and the way things progress (imagine a Photon with a thick layer of tar spray) we will have ping pong level of spin pretty soon. It will be like polyester strings in tennis all over again, western grips, baseline rips, power and athleticism rule the day.
@@chubun6631 Yes, Quang can make shots like that 10x against an inferior opponent in the round of 16 (I also watched Quang's match in the round of 16 in person against an inferior opponent). Playing Fed is not like playing another scrub in the round of 16. Has it ever occurred to you Quang could not make those shots because Fed shots are much better. Quang's problem is that Fed is a such an athlete with unbelievable foot work, and Fed can anticipate Quang's shots even before Quang hit them. Furthermore, Fed holds his shots until Quang committed himself. Quang was lucky the score was 11-8 in the second game because it could have been 11-4. IMHO, for Quang to beat Fed, he has to play his A+ game combines with some lucks. For Fed to beat Quang, he just needs to play his B game.
The triangulation between Ben, Fed, and Duong is so interesting. Duong can beat Ben, Ben normally destroys Fed, Fed always destroys Quang.
Federico just so smooth and pinpoint accurate in singles
Yep that’s the main difference. Fed keeps the ball in and gets it over the net far more often
Trận đấu này bạn ý gặp phải đối thủ khá mạnh 💐
I watched this match in person at VA Beach and Duong was helpless again Fed.

8:19 anyone know why fed quits in the middle of the point?
