Great teardown video as usual Gary!!
I really liked this one though as it's my favorite tranny... the old school 200-4r!
I'm currently building one step by step on my tiny youtube channel.
I'm gonna put it behind a blown big block chevy so I'm doing a lot of upgrades to it to handle the power.
By the way, the plastic tool you show in the video is a Kent Moore j-28542 and there's a few on Ebay and there's also the metal one with the red handle you ended up using. Didn't know it would fit the 2004r with the th-125 adapter!
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to film these teardowns! I enjoy watching them and wonder how you can remember how to rebuild all the different models. Good memory for sure👍

2004-R can definitely be built to handle power. We use them in our Buick grand nationals and Turbobuick’s. There not cheap to built but I’m making 800hp and my friends is making around 1000 and we have no problems with our units. My guy is in Freeport, Li. Turbobuick performs, Dave Husek is the owner. I recommend contacting him if you need any parts for those units. He even has billet forward drums and input shafts if needed.

Great to see you working with an old one .
I watch the video and looks like all hard parts are okay. If you need anything on hard parts please let me know, I have a few safe complete low miles transmission. ( for now ). Good luck with your business. Good to hear that you are busy.

Do you sell hard parts for all transmissions?

The end of the forward clutch shaft is one of the places that would break on Turbo Buick's with power increase modifications. At least by 1989 GM had improved the pump & sun shell drums to reduce those failing.

I can’t remember the last time I saw a Metric 200 / 200-4R. Thanks for filming and sharing. Have you ever worked on the Aisin/Toyota A43D 4 speed would love to see one torn down, seems like a good unit.

Probably the 5.0 is a 307 Olds. At that time usually the sedans had 305 Chevy engines and the wagons had the 307. There may have been some 200-4Rs behind 305s but the 307 never came with a 700-R4 because the 700 only came with the Chevrolet bell housing pattern. A lot of the 200-4Rs were dual-pattern bells and could go behind either BOP or Chevrolet engines.

Also, either of these V8 engines were making like 150 horsepower. Either transmission could handle what little power there was. In theory the 200 was lighter and the early 200 3-speeds had a bad reputation, but they were going into Buick Grand Nationals and even a Presidential limousine. So, not as wimpy as the number would suggest. I still don't know why they gave the 700 such a high number either.

Hello Gary, not relevant to this video, but I wonder if you could offer some advice, I removed the engine and gearbox from my sons Mercedes W212 E220 With G7 Box to replace the timing chain and guides. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the box so it was split from the engine and placed to one side, engine works completed and box replaced but box will not turn, we could not even turn it to bolt up the torque converter. The small longer shaft in the bell housing turns freely as does the drive at the rear but the larger spline in the bell housing will not move at all, any suggestions gratefully received, love the videos by the way, but unsure if I dare go that deep into one.

That spline will not move, that is the stator shaft that splines into the converter, the input shift will only turn

@@GaryFerraro thank you so much, I understand now, obviously auto boxes are not my strong point.

So, did you rebuild the 200 or replace it with something that would handle the power of the new motor?? (crate motor story)

Installed a 700R4 in that car
