    There's actually a difference between set necks and set-thru necks. The difference is the heel length. Set neck joints are usually in the neck pickup cavity while set-thru joints go all the way to the bridge pickup cavity. It just adds a few extra inches of neck into the body for more sustain

    The locking tuners on the Solar are an amazing feature! It takes long enough to cut the balls from the strings and then lock them in place with the wrench, so having locking tuners instead of winding strings is really nice.

      I used to do this on my Ibanez is I would have the ball ends over on the headstock side and just cut just enough on the other side too get my tuning where it needs to be

      @@davidemmons4670 this is the answer to this. Also this allows you to actually use your strings longer in case your string pops out of the saddle because you now can just unwind a bit more, cut it again and reseat it in the saddle without a gigantic hassle

      why would you ever cut the balls off? just put the strings on backwards, leave the balls at the headstock. fast easy and looks cool.

      I have owned several LTD korean models. They are great. One had a minor flaw in finish but very minor. I have now one indonesian EC-1000T and it had few problem:
      -three way switch had connection problem
      -one of the Fishman push-pull pots was had silent spot while turning it
      -the battery cavity screw was stuck. The builder had forced it all the way to end and thread was totally destroyed.
      -Fishman bridge pickup adjustment screw had same problem. The builder had not checked the threads before and just screwed it in anyways. So the threads on pickup was destroyed

    I played a Strat copy (Can't remember the brand) a couple of days ago that had Fishman Single Spaced Humbuckers. I had never looked into them. The kid at the shop raved about them and told me a little about their construction and he's putting them into a parts guitar he's working on. They sounded great. They had the boost like the video mentioned. It had a Micro USB slot in the input jack to charge the pickup batteries. 3 hour charge is supposed to get 250 hours or something like that. IDK if that's true but they were plenty charged when I played it. ;)

    Les Paul's are not set through. Set through means that the bridge connects to the neck wood and the neck is glued in. Set necks normally have the neck end around the neck pocket. Sometimes set through end in the bridge pickup route, but with a floyds you are looking for your studs to hit it it.

    The horrible QC on the Solars are definitely a deal breaker. I've had 2 different Solars and they've been horrid. Cracked fretboards, peeling logos, HORRIBLE fret work. I'll never spend a penny on Solar ever again. ESP/LTD FTW, no contest.

  • @Andrew_182
    @Andrew_182 2 роки тому +6

    They have been producing 1000 series in both Indo and SK recently. Sweetwater has gotten batches of the same guitar same spec with 3 from indo and 2 from SK (making up numbers for the example), so it'll just vary. If you have a strong preference for a SK model, SW is obviously a great place to buy from since they let you pick your exact guitar from the gallery.
    All that said, personally I'd take the M1000 over the Solar. I like the looks more (not a big fan of the over-exaggerated horns personally), I like LTD neck carve and like the compound radius, and I just frankly trust ESP/LTD more especially since Solar doesn't have a distributor here in the states so any issues mean sending the guitar back across the ocean.

    • @watcherzero3032
      @watcherzero3032 2 роки тому

      ESP USA does not handle any issues with their import guitars they are sent back by the distributor no difference than you having to send it back instead of the distributor. And most ESP/LTD are made in the same Wildwood Factory that Solar's are made in. They both have the same quality of production. So no ESP/LTD is no better than Solar cause they come out of the same factory. You just have a nit-picky preference and don't even realize they are made in the same factory in Indonesia.

    • @Andrew_182
      @Andrew_182 2 роки тому

      Hey man, if you’re fine with being the one to deal with issues if you have them, that’s cool. More power to you. I, however, prefer having the ability to send the guitar back to Sweetwater if I receive it with an issue knowing I’ll get another guitar sent or a refund back almost immediately. I don’t have to contact the company or wait for them to approve a return, or wait for them to receive the item after shipping it overseas (which I’m not sure if you’re aware, it’s not the quickest process at the moment) and inspect it before they ship me back a guitar or issue a refund. All that stuff is doable, but if given the option, I’d much prefer not to have to deal with it and just have a distributor who will handle it. If Solar had more of a presence here in the US and I could more easily try their products, that would be great. But they currently don’t.
      I don’t feel like that’s all that “nit-picky” (nor are the rest of my preferences), but I also don’t really care all that much if you do.
      Also, as for them being from the same line, the ltd I have is Korean made and afaik they’re not making solars in Korea. But even still, I haven’t heard the Indonesian LTDs having issues with the finger boards splitting or any other QC issues, while I have heard of problems with Solars. Maybe they have and it just hasn’t been as widely covered. Or maybe not. Still prefer the LTDs and I’m entitled to that preference like you to yours.

    • @watcherzero3032
      @watcherzero3032 2 роки тому

      @@Andrew_182 I have no preference by either I currently do not own any Solar's or ESP/LTD's(But have played both as I have friends that own both) but I do have Schecter's that were made in the same factory (And have not had any problems with them at all). That bs about the fingerboards splitting are lies it would have happened to every other brand that is made in that same factory(Which has not happened. Or that would have been all over the music gear community through all of those brands made there). Some people just hate Ola and they are just trying to throw shade on the guy. Does Solar have QC problems maybe so, but not stuff as major as fingerboards splitting(Those liars probably bought one and something happened in shipping which is not Ola's problem so people get mad and make up stuff cause the shipping company messed their guitar up). Ola may not be in the situation yet to have US distributors due to cost's of getting his product's into the USA and probably does not have enough buyers on average for it to be beneficial for his business. He just sells straight to the buyer cause it is so much easier to deal with his customers personally at this point and time.

    • @Andrew_182
      @Andrew_182 2 роки тому +1

      Well, I’m not an ola hater, I enjoy his yt content and music. As for the fingerboards, I remember him making a video acknowledging it when it first started happening, so I think there was some truth to it. But I can also believe it was overblown in its frequency by people too. And I get them maybe not being at a place to have US distributors at this point, but it’s just my preference to not have to deal with the potential extra if something does go wrong when I can get at least as good of guitar from brands like Ltd and Schecter through sweetwater and have them take care of things if need be. That said, if there’s something they release that I can’t get elsewhere or it’s just too cool, I’d probably order one. I’ve been tempted by the baritone E type and I’m interested to see what their X shape ends up looking like.

    This video would be more helpful if you physically compared the two.
    That would have answered many other questions such as production origin and questions about quality and value.
    True, that would be an expensive investment into a UA-cam video but that would bring incredible value for the viewer. There are many similarly spec'd guitars in the market but a direct comparison would help bring clarity to a potential buyer.

    I would buy the LTD. Not a fan of that Ola guy for many reasons, he adds lots of crap on top of his covers to make "amp reviews" sound better than they really do. His guitars cost $1000 and made in Indonesia and youtube is full of people complaining about issues with these guitars. LTD has many years doing this and is probably higher quality and cheaper. On paper, the Solar may have more "features" but that's not what really matters in a guitar, what matters is the wood and the quality of how it was built. Solar are just overpriced shiny guitars made to look cool to attract the nuu metal boys of today who love pointy horns, evil colors, etc, etc, but think about it , solar is a small new company, they have to make a profit, only way this can be done is by overpricing them and cutting corners. A bigger company can afford to put more quality at a cheaper price because they work by numbers. Solar works by attracting the young impressionable crowd Its simple logic, to expect Ibanez/ESP heck even LTD quality on a Solar at the price range it doesn't make sense, is simple economics. For example Ibanez is able to offer the Genesis which is a lot of value for 1k, there is no way Solar could offer a same quality guitar built in Japan for 1k without them going to bankruptcy
