The 70's was a TRILLION times better than the 80's...The 80's began the downfall of society in general...I was a 20 something in the 80's I had an awesome time and it was a lot of fun, Probably the best years of my life; simultaneously; music was being destroyed; the grand dumbing down with schlocky tv shows and stupid vapid youth being vapid...
Man the 80s had this air of mystery, romance and adventure that makes me so nostalgic even though i never got to experience it as an adult. Anyone who can remember the 80s is truly blessed.
Seriously guys how hard is it to work this one out? The best time is when you're in your late teens early to mid twenties. This is the best time for anyone. One arbitrary era is not better than the previous arbitrary era, 70s, 80s, 90s, whatever.
‘80s music videos had a way of being quite corny for their time, but I think part of that is because the medium was relatively new and growing in popularity (well, promo films for singles had been around since the 1960s, but it took the rise of MTV in the early 1980s for the music video to become a widely viewed form of promoting a single), so music videos had to be either straightforward or very memorable. This one was more on the fun side in concept, while sticking with the traditional performance video for at least part of the video. It’s really interesting, at least I think so, to study music videos of the late ‘70s and early ‘80s and compare and contrast them with more recent videos.
That guitar solo though....amazing. Basic pentatonic scale but it showcases the importance of phrasing. Some musicians have that innate ability to create something special out of something simple.
8 year old me in the summer heat of 1981. Hearing this on the KGEL 97.1 in Mesquite Texas. Lots of lost memories spent out by John L. Hamby elementary school.

@@asherouk7308 it also had really big hair
Seriously guys how hard is it to work this one out? The best time is when you're in your late teens early to mid twenties. This is the best time for anyone. One arbitrary era is not better than the previous arbitrary era, 70s, 80s, 90s, whatever.
Yes, it was. And time, is now, running out for my generation.....
I'm here because this video makes me chuckle the entire way through.
@@crystalp7242 80s is the best :)
and the part with the watches ~1:32
The video looks a lot like a bar scene from the Three’s Company TV show that was very popular during that time. 😂
I remember this shit came out on the original Beavis and butthead episodes.. lol 😆 gold !!
Смотрю -...одни иностранцы комментируют Я русский но тащусь от этой песни с начала восьмидесятых
That guitar solo though....amazing. Basic pentatonic scale but it showcases the importance of phrasing. Some musicians have that innate ability to create something special out of something simple.
True
Special phrasing, yes. I don't care for the way the video panned off of his goofy-self like that. 2:12
Shaw wrote this song in his car on the way to record songs for the album it’s on. Mad skills.
Rush is good also
Saw Styx in the 80's. Those were the days.
Almost as good as the 70s!!!
Anyone else watching this in 1981?
I was born in 82, so maybe I was in the womb, just nappin'. Because...well you know.
8 year old me in the summer heat of 1981. Hearing this on the KGEL 97.1 in Mesquite Texas. Lots of lost memories spent out by John L. Hamby elementary school.
probably
lol w/e dude. been listening to these guys since river styx. yeah, they were playing while we were taking a train back to the living world.
Fiat Equality Czar me
I was in 6th or 7th grade when this song came out❤ I remember how at that time I was so worry free, no bills, no job etc & definitely had that "too much time on my hands '❤
Was living next to the Central Coast California ❤🌴 1:22
In 1981, remember rollerskating to this song in the skating rink when it was released. I mean, the 80's were as insanely awesome as the music makes them sound. 😎
LOL on the thumbnail, "crazy" eyes! What a classic tune. Tommy is the man, even today. Legend!
I love Tommy's sweet face, I love the way he sings, he is awesome he has talent!!
I met him at a meet and greet in Colorado and the man, couldn't have been any nicer if he tried. Took tons of pics, signed everything you brought for him to sign and was genuinely happy to meet all of us. Love this band!
Still my all time favorite Styx tune!!!!!!!! 52 years old. My brother bought me Paradise Theater cassette for Christmas in 1989. Currently sitting by my pool with my family. My 18 year old daughter singing along with Tommy Shaw. Ahhhh. The testament of timeless Music.
One of the best songs ever made in the history of music, plus the performance/video editing is next level. You are in the presence of greatness.
100% AGREE.
Soo much My Youth! Perfect!
I've been retired for two years. I really like this song. I first heard it when I was fourteen. I still like it.
Hello 👋 Gray
How're you doing,
it's been a long journey, and I'm nothing without amazing fans like you who appreciate my musical craftiness,
All love to you and yours ❤️
Who else is here to compare it to Jimmy Fallon's version. It was spotless!
This has got to be tied with Animotion’s “Obsession” for the most 80’s video ever. Love it!
Who else is watching this because they have too much time on their hands?
THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WAS GOING TO SAY!!!
Budred123. Me!!!!!!!!!!!!
Budred123 😂😂😂
I'm stuck, too...
I'm watching it because it's the only known cure for the Twelve O'Clock News Blues.
Love seeing everyone comment about Jimmy bringing them here! I was raised on Styx have seen them 3 times live and seen Dennis Deyoung twice live! So this is great to see them get this recognition!!! Love it amd these guys!
My friends make fun of me all the time, too. I've seen them, like, twenty-five times. Tommy Shaw, when I was, like, sixteen years old, I was at the concert, he actually reached out and grabbed my hand, pulled me up on stage, and I got to do the robot voice for Mr. Roboto!
ypou lucky bastard, also how's the farm going?
From what concert??
Hey Randy, I think I was at that show
Big Daddy
Mike Hollin
Finally
2:38 I just love how excited the drummer is to be playing music.
Saw them in the late 70s. Still love them
If you compare this song to the current music on the radio. It is unbelievably good
The thing about new music is you need to find the stuff not on the radio. It is a thousand times better.
@@paxapunch2708 yep. I don't consider a lot of the stuff kids play today music. Idk how many other 18 year olds have Styx in their top 5 artists...
This song is 41 years old...it still ROXXXXXXX! KENNY NASH
You take that back!! 🤣 What a mean, mean thing to remind one of...
Whoever were a part of the 70's and 80's. I would've love to jam this with you all. I'm a 90's guy by the way.
Legendary Song...CANNOT Be Forgotten EVER On My Watch!!! 🤘🖤🤘
HOWEVER? LIKE ALL CRTICS...THIS WAS A POOR VIDEO!
AWESOME 🎵 GUYS!!!! But That Was AGO......❤💖❤
One of my most favorite songs by the Styx!!!!!!!
This was so creative and intricate! People with actual talent. Miss this era of music... Today's processed tunes just break the seek button on the radio in my car.... One of my favorite bands !!
Hello 👋 suzerstar
How're you doing.
Thanks for this comment, I'm nothing without fans like you who appreciate my musical craftiness
It's nice meeting you here.
@@styx9847 whoah you guys are responding to your fans? That's so cool man I love this song I saw the Jimmy Kimmel version and I have to agree with suze, the layering, the build up, suspense and the silliness.
Absolutely brilliant I'm gonna be browsing your music now I can't believe I never listened to y'all before
Your listening to the wrong kind of music metal is still writing everything no backing tracks or bullshit and I mean death metal
@@tommyshaw4050 lol
I made a tape back in college with this song sliding perfectly into ELO's Livin Thing!
They have got to go on the Tonight Show and play this! That would be a riot!
+Lori Richardson YES !!! I was thinking the same... It would be so awesome for Styx to be on the Fallon show......
+C Anderson that would be so awesome!
I was at the Tonight Show taping wednesday night. This song will be stuck in my head forever.
I went November 2014 with Jon Stewart!
What time do they tape it?
+Wesley Brown at 4 or 4:30
+Wesley Brown From 5pm to 6:15 pm.
+melissa s It could have been much worse. It could have been Mr Roboto.
I guess I have too much time on my Hands. I listen to these guys every day, Along with many others. I'm 72 and I love Rock!! Keep rockin' people!
it is good to see a band enjoying and "clowning in a video in a good way. As opposed to just standing on stage stone faced playing music counting the time down until they get to go backstage. There are not that many bands that do this-not the true professional bands. The tours do get to be long an it becomes just a job.
They are a good band having a good time making this video. They are one of the best bands to come out of Ch- town.
I have too much time on my hands. I always wanted to be a father, prepared myself to have a family. I dont have a family. Now middle aged and retired. I say forget working hard, party once in a while. I didnt.
Dennis deyoung and Tommy Shaw what a combination 👍
One of the best bands of the 70s and 80s.
Some of Tommy's expressions in this video are just priceless!
Saw Styx in concert 3 times and they’re still one of my faves to see!! Thanks to my parents for having me grow up on their music ❤️
Styx seems to be a forgotten band these days. I remember back in the day they were gigantic, on the radio constantly!
haha thanks Jimmy for the flashback!
It's amazing how Shaw came up with this song!
truly a great band I wish Dennis and the rest of the boys could just bury the hatchet and play some kickass rock and roll again!
Brett Caporale I agree. And that always seems to be the case with my favorite bands. I’m still pissed cause Peter Cetera won’t reconnect with Chicago.
How much time do YOU spend with your ex?
@@spaceghost8995 so they were lovers?😆
so agree with you!
Who here hopes that if(WHEN?!) Styx goes into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, that Dennis DeYoung will perform one more time with the rest of the band at the ceremony?
I really dont think anyone gives a shit if/when they do
The members of Styx doesn't even care what Jann Wenner from the RRHOF shithole thinks of them. So why should we. The RRHOF are a joke!!!
I do!!! That would be awesome!!!!
I do , but I'm not holding my breath
Tommy’s crazy eyes always crack me up 😂❤🤪
I always laugh
Styx is one of the best bands ever . Hit after hit that are timeless ! They have left an incredible mark on the history of rock & roll .
This needs to be the anthem for 2020. Whose in their 20s like me and listens to this song? Whose in their teens and listens to this song? I love this 70s and eighties band Stix. I love this song by them. If you're in your 20s and teens this song came out before you were born.
I agree
