Not being able to have a big bore gun myself, it was really nice to see you go through a range of your own guns and tell about what you like about each and where it fits into your hunting spectrum. I will definitely look out for and look forward to any more of your "show and tell" videos. Thank you for the enlightening entertainment.
Wow 😲 that's some great rifles there Jim,I didn't realize the power would be up in the 1500 ft lb range with the longer barrel that's amazing, but personally I can see why you like the Hatsan with the barrel cut, it looks like it's rugged well made with plenty of power for most quarry and a reasonable price seems like a winner to me thanks for sharing ATB Dave
I'm taking this gun with me next week, but also have the Hatsan Factor .35 and the Umarex Hammer... hope I run into a lot of hogs... got a week to hunt!
Great video Jim. It's eye watering when you talk about the unbelievable foot poundage you have out of these big bore rifles. As a UK air gunner we can only ever dream about what other countries can use. It would be interesting and nice to see what scopes you are using on your air rifles, especially your springers. Your springer collection would also be a video to see. Keep them coming, I always enjoy your interest and knowledge. 👍
Thanks for he comments. These guns are fun, and they are effective for the larger game. I'll do something on both scopes and my springers. I have an article in Outdoor Life Digital Edition on some of my top picks. www.outdoorlife.com/gear/best-air-rifle-scopes/
Impressive collection of large calibres, even in a period of thirty years. Most will probably favor the Zeus (men always want the biggest) but I prefer the Bushbuck and the PBBA. Your wife probably says, "What am I wearing today?" You have the problem of "which riffle am I taking out today"? Life is sometimes complicated.
Hi Randy, still have that rifle. Several years Brian Beck made me a Kentucky long rifle stock for it.... and that's what it's wearing today. Looks like a muzzle loading squirrel gun, need to get it out this year. I also bought another Richards Microfit stock to finish for it at some point. Hope you and the family are all good!
Thanks Shawn, appreciate the comment. The one stock on the Quackenbush, Dennis selected the wood, and the checkering was done by a woman that I think had worked for Winchester (maybe it was Remmington) doing their stocks. The one on the badger I am proud of because I put a lot of work into that one.
I’m a big fan of the Texan rifles. The .308 is my first & only big bore. I chose it as I thought it would check a lot of boxes for me. 1st - accuracy - my goal was sub 2-MOA out to 200 yds 2nd - power - I wanted greater than 250 FPE 3rd - well built with good warranty. (Limited life time) 4th - ammo had to be readily available and plenty of molds so I could cast my own bullets 5th - have the feel of a real firearm 6 - operate on less than 4KPSI - easier to support at the range from a standard 4500 psi bottle The rifle is golf ball accurate at 100 yds. Will make over 275 FPE stock and has been bullet proof! I’ve shot almost exclusively my own cast bullets for the last 12 months and the rifle has met the above goals using my own ammo. My rifle likes Lee 113, 120 & 180 grain molds. The 3 bullets will meet or exceed my 2 MOA goal. If your considering a Texan, I have nothing bad to say about the rifle at all. It’s been bullet proof over the last 18 months & I shoot it almost weekly. Videos on my channel.
I recently got an Air Force Condor SS in 25 caliber and like it very much. I will probably get a Texan SS in 45 cal. when I can afford one. Thanks for the info, great to have you back.
I have set these two guns up differently over the course of their lives, but as they currently stand the .308 is generating about 160 fpe, and the .452 is generating about 350 fpe. The .308 is primarily used for predator hunting and the .452 for deer and hog.
I liked this style of video very much. I'd definitely like to see the bullpup selection in your collection. Also any gas ram items you have. Thank you.
Nice collection big bore picked up the Texan big boar carbon shrouted 457 a while back Still have my crossman Pump 177 Hunting rabbits with my dad around 71/72 when I was six they’ve come along way single shot is fine by me
@@americanairgunhunter Waiting until I can get up to the lodge in Columbia New Hampshire this fall really looking forward stocked up on Benjamin 350s it will be my first hunt Take care
thank you for sharing. I'd like to see what you'd shoot with that .72 cal. I can't imagine. also, now i'm interested in seeing some of your hunts with your Piledriver.
I'll be doing more this season, but check out some of the videos I've posted over the last couple years, have a hunt or two with the .72 and several with the Piledriver. Thanks for the support!
Jim I have been practicing with my Air Force Texan 457. Hoping to take a white tail deer with it this fall. I took a few woodchucks with it out to 100 yards.
I think you're asking about the ones on the Pildriver? I got them online, here's the link www.amazon.com/dp/B09BJ441T1?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details on all the other guns I believe they were Uncle Mikes swivels, or an equivalent brand.
Has the .72 had good blood trails and which scope should I get for shorter barrel length and which dealer do you recommend for purchasing gin scope rounds and all.
It does, especially when the shot placement is lower. You don't get that offside spray of blood seen with a centerfire, but quite good for an air rifle.
@@americanairgunhunter 😀 I am fine, thank you, currently still on holiday in my house in France, will be back in the Netherlands this Sunday, hope you are well too. Greetz, Rob.
With the barrel length of that hatsan piledriver you could get away with adding one of the new 700cc carbon fiber bottles then you would have tons of shots even putting out that foot pound range
I know some guys who like the .357 Recluse for hog hunting but they will not let you hunt deer in Texas with it. I have been thinking of getting the Recluse or the AEA .30 cal.
I had my Recluse tuned to produce 215 fpe, which is the minimum for deer in Texas. Check with Pyramyd as they are doing a power tune package for these guns, not sure if theyre getting the power for the .357, but for the Light Hunter and dragon Claw hey are for sure.
Respected Sir Greetings of the day. I thought of buying Zeus. My choice is Aea challenger elite bull pup .50 caliber or Aea Zeus .72 caliber.so out of this which I should go for.and Aea Zeus I choose 16 inch or 24 inch.please let me know which is best out this and why. My purpose is for hunting wild bore and deer. Note.:Aea challenger elite 50 cal has 6 rounds while Zeus only 1. On fps both same according to two barrel length of Zeus16 inch and 24 inch.so please let me your expert suggestion. Last if you compare Aea challenger elite .bullpup 50 cal with Aea challenger .50 caliber bullpup .out of this also which is best. Wait your reply sir.
I decided I was just going to buy one high quality airgun and stop there. Bought the weihrauch hw100 very happy with it but already have a list of ten that I gotta have 😂
If you were going to hunt coyotes only and want to have the flattest trajectory for called in dogs. What caliber? 257 Air Force Texan is what I leaning towards. I want to shoot slugs in whatever caliber I get. Thanks for the advice
Hi Jonathan; the AirForce is a great choice and for me it would come down between the .257 or .308. I have both, and probably my preference is the .308. It is fairly flat shooting, hits hard, lot of ammunition available, and it's good for hogs as well. But if you are focusing in coyote, the .257 is an strong choice.
I was originally wanting the 308 because of pigs. We don’t have pigs around where I live in Oklahoma but I can try 2 hours and be in them. Always been a fan of 257 cal. Who’s got the best cast bullet to use. Someone told me the 257 was designed around the 70gr, is that a correct? Thanks for your time.
No, these are all in my collection, the ones that have earned a personal place in the lineup. However, they are all still being made/sold, and might also be found on the used gun market
Airguns in general are heavy guns anymore. Why do companies feel that they have to be built so heavy? Your pressure levels are but a fraction of the levels even of the .22 lr! I understand the tanks being heavy, as even the antiques had heavy tanks, but the actions themselves seem more substantial than need be for a quick burst of 4500 psi!
i sure wish airforce would come out with a multi shot, whats the deal with american made manafactures getting left behind in affordable big bore multi shot rifles, i dont understand how stagnant the american companies are in innovation, benjamin still hasnt come out with anything other than the tremendously ugly bull dog, airforce still single shot, everyone else is way over priced for the average buyer/shooter, ive been extremely impressed with AEA's lineup of affordable, good looking big bores, american companies take note.
The guns are great, the stories are entertaining and the depth of knowledge and history with the industry are priceless - thank you.
Thanks, appreciate that!
Great video Jim! Thank you.
Would you please do a video about shot placement, in particular head shot placement on different animals?
Sounds like a good topic, I'll put i9t in the queue!

Texan is an excellent deer rifle, it's done very well for me an is one of the guns I like to carry on long hikes or in dense thickets (the carbine).
The Badger stock is beautifull!
I was pleased with how it turned out. I have another unfinished one that I planned to use on the Corvair at some point.
If you are using the AEA Challenger, I would love to hear about that. I have been thinking about getting a Big 9
A mater of fact one of the guns going down to Texas with me this weekend, hopefully have a video soon...
And that short barrel pile driver would be an awesome coyote gun in the thicker Woods up here in New England

Thanks for the feedback Frank.

If there's an interest, I'll do a series. Thanks for the view/comment!

Thanks, very nice.
Appreciate that!
I’d go with the bushbuck 👍 maybe the Zeus’s as well just for kicks!

I can't w8 to upgrade to pcp... my best gun is a Hatsan Striker 1000S break barrel at .25 😭
If you're shooting that monster accurately, a PCP is going to be laser accurate in your hands.
keep working on your accuracy with your striker. it will help you develop good shooting skills. those skills will pay off when you get a pcp.
