I believe Shawn (ESPECIALLY) was afraid of Shane and his boys protected him. How can you not, when Shawn was well-documented to be a shithead back then?
Shane had a great career with or without the interference of the cliq...1st ECW champion, arguably THE greatest ECW champion...and he gave goldberg his greatest match in wcw without a doubt....
Thumbs up from me , gotta say I like Shane Douglas and could listen to him for a fair amount of time.... Politics in wrestling suck actually politics suck full stop.
I was always a HBK fan, but it really sucks that he was such a scumbag. Even now, after he found God and all that jazz, he never really owns up to the stuff he did. He just chalks it up to being young (30s is old enough to know better imo) and blames it on his substance abuse.
I always love to see interviews of what happened back in the day. There are always 2 sides of the story and usually the guy not on Vince's top pick is the one to listen to for the truth. Vince hand picks his guy or woman. And if you ain't first. You're last.
I bet Vince kept Scott Hall in the room (or somebody) just in case a wrestler shot on him when they didn't like what he had to say. Basically a bodyguard for Vince.
The Scott Hall story is VERY interesting. The implication is that Scott was trying to get across that Shane didn't know how to work. That's some serious shit
Sitting in the shadows of the boss' room, listening to conversations of other people. Sounds very much what he would do in other promotions like WCW and TNA.
"Unless you want your ass stretched get up and wrestle" .......And that folks is what caused Douglas' downfall in WWF/E. Michaels was the 'Golden Boy' at the time and got everything he wanted.
Shane Douglas is a underrated wrestling Legend you wouldn't have the gimmick of Triple H the game without the gimmick of the franchise Shane Douglas one of the best to ever do it in my opinion
After all the shoots I've listened to and watched, I really only like about 4 wrestlers or associated to wrestling people. Macho Man, Owen Hart, Jim Cornette, Mr. Perfect.
Shane Douglas's account of the conversation he had with Vince McMahon legitimizes the fact that Vince was not in it for the wrestling business. It was all about sports entertainment. Shane Douglas had enough knowledge where he could have been a successful owner of his own wrestling organization or helped build another.
Franchise gives the best shoot interviews, not bitter, no ego just honest accounts of the business. HBK sounds like a gross human being, He may have the list of accolades but as man he strikes me as worm hiding behind his born again self righteous crap. The sad thing is if it would have been booked right as the franchise character, Douglas could have had amazing feuds and matches with hall, hbk, Nash (that might be pushing it) etc.
Exactly another story of why it is most likely something more than a professional relationship between Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels to allow the Kliq to have control essentially of his company in the 90s. No matter what anyone says with the steroids scandal in the early 90s it was possible to make many other wrestlers stars without giving control to four wrestlers.
For the life of me I can't understand how the Kliq would have an issue with Shane (especially Shawn and Hall) considering their previous relationships. He seemed to already have a good relationship or at least decent with all of them. Hall also looked out for Dallas and Larry for helping him early in his career.
No matter what Shane has my respect. Anyone that signs up to teach today's children is a hero. They are underpaid, overworked and taken for granted and kids today are a bunch of little spoiled entitled bastards.
Love Shane’s mind for the business and his storytelling; however, he’s wrong about the commentary on the finish of his IC match with Razor Ramon. I just rewatched the In Your House from October ‘95, and there was direct commentary acknowledgment of the fact that Dean’s leg was under the ropes and outside of the ring. Jerry Lawler defiantly mentioned it, then they cut to a replay from an angle which clearly showed Dean’s leg under the ropes and outside the ring. After that replay, both Vince and JR acknowledged on the broadcast that Lawler was correct and Dean’s leg was under the ropes. Perhaps they didn’t focus on it to Shane’s satisfaction, but it was definitely acknowledged on the PPV.
Shane's actually wrong about one thing - they did show the replay of his foot going under the rope against Razor. Several times. King points it out & is screaming hysterically about it, then upon a second look even Vince comments & says King is right. Just looked it up to remember it.
All I can say is, the more I hear from Shane/Troy, either in a shoot or a work, the more I respect the guy and the performer. I can say the opposite about guys like Paul Levesque, Kevin Nash and Michael Hickenbottom. I think Waltman is an okay guy, but from a young age, he wanted to hang with the cool kids as we all do, and it got him into trouble. Troy Martin is an educated guy, so he was smart enough to avoid some of the nonsense, even if it hurt him career wise with the big companies who pay the big money. Im hoping AEW can continue to be the company they seem to be. No BS, put on a good, fan centric wrestling show and go home without the politics or the drug issues. Stick to cannabis, guys!
I would take Shane Douglas at his word before I would believe anyone else. The problem with him was, he was never the guy to keep his mouth shut so he always stood alone. I’ve been in that situation many times
I didn't think of Shane Douglas, until now. Believable from the top of the program to the end. And he still looks like he could pull your head off your shoulders as you lie in a bloody puddle.
Although Shane clearly got a raw deal unfortunately all due to the timing and the politics going on at the time... it cannot be denied that it is absolutely hilarious to imagine Vince saying “we put the belt on you tonight...and then at that point...........” and pointing to the shadows while staring straight at Douglas and all the sudden you hear that *tire screeching* sound or whatever that sound was that played prior to the Razor Ramon theme hitting, then the music hits, the laser light Razor Ramon logo starts flashing on and off on the floor in front of dark area.....(totally conceivable to imagine that at this point Vince is already in commentator mode, most likely building up the suspense, saying “is it?! Is it!? YESSS! YES! THE BAD GUY RAZOR RAMON! TAKE A LOOK IF YOU WILL, HE IS OOZING MACHISMO!”) as out of the darkness comes Razor doing that vintage Bad Guy walk, toothpick and all... now yes, I know it’s so insane to imagine it happening this way but it is hilarious to wonder... because despite the insane idea of this happening as I described we have to admit that knowing how crazy Vince is and how he doesn’t give a f*ck about doing crazy stuff, it’s at least something that could have had a chance of happening LOL hell I could even bet Vince thought of doing it this way and Hall maybe talked him out of it prior.
When you have two sides to a story, you can nearly always figure out who is telling the mostly true side... CONSISTENCY. Whoever tells the same thing over and over again is 9/10 times the person to believe. People lie to make themselves look better, but that becomes an issue for them because they start adding on things they thought of along the way that makes them look better. Sometimes it's real subtle, sometimes it's blatantly obvious. Take note next time you encounter a "who to believe" scenario. You'll see what I mean. Long story short, Shane is telling the truth and the Klique lique dique.
Shane has a clear head. Vince is a puppet master and everything . . . and I mean EVERYTHING he does is a work. All the "injuries", all the vengeance (significant, career affecting, injuries due to "stupid, last minute changes" on incoming WCW guys), all of the "WTF" moments . . . it's all a work. He's a Marvel Super Villain. He is the ultimate con man. You'll understand better in a few years when physical debility forces him to let go.
In that in your house match during the leg under the rope finish, Jerry lawler mention Douglas leg under the rope, Vince was like “well ref didn’t see it”
i wonder which place he is talking about regarding the show in Lansing, MI since i live here. maybe the breslin center at MSU or what is now called the lansing center downtown, could of been in that. when i was much younger, i do remember going to a WWF show in Lansing, MI at an arena, which I think is now the Lansing Center, but it was a great show and Macho Man was there
The way Shane describes the matches is great. I knew once Shawn got popular that it would go to his head. I can tell that Shane would of killed Shawn if he would pull more crap like that.
Shawn fought off 50 navy seals or was it a hundred lol BUT that night did start the romance between Shawn and Tammy Lynn Sytch. I believe its what they call the FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE EFFECT
I really enjoyed watching Shane in WCW and especially in ECW. I would have loved to see the Triple Threat face Degeneration X and Degeneration X get the Triple Threat over in WWF.
That wouldn't have happened. Come to think of it, all three members of the Triple Threat (Shane Douglas, Chris Candido, and Bam Bam Bigelow)were in the WWF around the same time in 1995 and the Kliq fucked all of them over in different ways.
I've heard enough "Shawn sabotaged our match" stories that I believe that was the sole reason Vince kept him around. And it's not like they're conjecture. And they're not even stories, you can watch the fucking videos and see it; just like shane mentions here. Maybe after Hogan burned him in the 90s Vince decided he needed a pocket ace to keep the big talent in line, so he takes this physically unimpressive wrestler, who dresses like he walked out of a gay western porn and traipses around like a faery, and you just have him start sandbagging guys to get enough reputation that even the fans see it . That's the only explanation for how that guy could sandbag huge names and manage to stay around. He was Vince's insurance policy.

Now why would three guys who already have superb legacies cemented need to talk about someone else the way they do? I can absolutely see what he means about Ric and how disingenuous he is. I believe Shawn (ESPECIALLY) was afraid of Shane and his boys protected him. How can you not, when Shawn was well-documented to be a shithead back then?
Shane Douglas is a class act... Thank God for him in the wrestling world...
The Dean was a pretty good character in the WWF and he did great promos. The Kliq just ran him out of town, bottom line.
No. The Dean was a terrible character.
Awesome interview
Shane had a great career with or without the interference of the cliq...1st ECW champion, arguably THE greatest ECW champion...and he gave goldberg his greatest match in wcw without a doubt....
Thumbs up from me , gotta say I like Shane Douglas and could listen to him for a fair amount of time.... Politics in wrestling suck actually politics suck full stop.
GRAHAM, CHEERS TO YOU, POLITICS HAS DESTROYED THE WORLD.
Vince let the Kliq did whatever they wanted.. I'm starting to believe the Vince and Shawn rumors..
I think the whole Kliq was too sweet if you know what I mean.
A person doesn't act so confidently unless they know the boss has their back. And boy, HBK was way more than confident.
Shane Douglas Today would have made a perfect Horseman back in the 80s, He is excellent on the mic and Good wrestler!
Yeah..and that toothpick is so gross
Sitting in the shadows of the boss' room, listening to conversations of other people. Sounds very much what he would do in other promotions like WCW and TNA.
Very good interview its good to hear the other
Side of this story.
He should've went into business for himself with the Razor Ramon match.
"Unless you want your ass stretched get up and wrestle" .......And that folks is what caused Douglas' downfall in WWF/E. Michaels was the 'Golden Boy' at the time and got everything he wanted.
That's cause HBK gave everything the boss wanted. Contrary to what his entrance lyrics say.
I just recently met him twice, he was fantastic. He's an excellent guy
No matter what anyone says with the steroids scandal in the early 90s it was possible to make many other wrestlers stars without giving control to four wrestlers.
loved the heat between Shane and pillman in ECW
Damn Shawn was my favorite now I just see him as a sad blad guy
For the life of me I can't understand how the Kliq would have an issue with Shane (especially Shawn and Hall) considering their previous relationships. He seemed to already have a good relationship or at least decent with all of them. Hall also looked out for Dallas and Larry for helping him early in his career.
Because Shane takes himself way too serious the guy can’t take a joke to save his life
To say this guy has never drawn a 'dime" is laughable.. he was a big part of those crowds and in the success of ecw both directly and indirectly
He kinda sounds like what we call a tuff guy 20years to late....
When i watch a Corny shoot, he is the best. When i watch a Shane shoot, he is the best. No one else comes close.
No matter what Shane has my respect. Anyone that signs up to teach today's children is a hero. They are underpaid, overworked and taken for granted and kids today are a bunch of little spoiled entitled bastards.
I love how tells it like it is about those Kliq bullshitters!!!!!!!!!!!
i SWEAR from that photo i clicked... I thought that was MODERN DAY Bam Margera lololololol
I like listening to Shane.
I’ve always thought the kliq was the reason Cowboy Watts walked....
Shane Douglas best heel ever 😎👍👌
LOL.
Love the gum chewing impersonation!
Vince McMahon: *"We believe that the fans should go home happy"*
Me: Points to One Night Only 1997 *"Did any fans go home happy that night?"*
NOW THEY LET 20 FANS IN ON SMACKDOWN, WEARING COVID 19 MASKS/ GLOVES AND THE WRESTLERS ARE BEHIND BULLET PROOF GLASS//
THEY DID MENTION HIS LEG BEING UNDER THE ROPE WHEN HE WAS PINNED BY RAZOR THO
Shane was a character you wanted to hate but loved the whole deal! Him and Francine were the absolute ultimate team!
Don't stretch his bum, Franchise! It'll hurt! :D
The Franchise is speaking the truth
Still looking good legend
Damo Blamo love the back story. Shane is a straight shooter. Great listening to this History.
I would take Shane Douglas at his word before I would believe anyone else. The problem with him was, he was never the guy to keep his mouth shut so he always stood alone. I’ve been in that situation many times
Scott Hall wasn't in the WWF/WWE in 1990-1991.
only god knows how much i hate scott hall and shawn michaels
I hate them all apart from SW he seems cool but has a bad choice of friends
@Michael Anderson Shawn was overrated if he was so good why didn't he draw money? Fuck outta here with that b.s.
Shane has beautiful eyes, fuck. Anyway, ol HHH stole his whole 1999-era look and gimmick from Shane's ECW run.
I didn't think of Shane Douglas, until now. Believable from the top of the program to the end. And he still looks like he could pull your head off your shoulders as you lie in a bloody puddle.
I don't give a damn what anyone says. The dean character worked for me. I enjoyed it even though it was short lived.
Nice guy top guy
In that in your house match during the leg under the rope finish, Jerry lawler mention Douglas leg under the rope, Vince was like “well ref didn’t see it”
Shane Douglas was CM Punk before CM Punk was CM Punk.
i wonder which place he is talking about regarding the show in Lansing, MI since i live here. maybe the breslin center at MSU or what is now called the lansing center downtown, could of been in that. when i was much younger, i do remember going to a WWF show in Lansing, MI at an arena, which I think is now the Lansing Center, but it was a great show and Macho Man was there
Davey boy’s story was accurate about Syracuse except they were Army not Marines
The way Shane describes the matches is great. I knew once Shawn got popular that it would go to his head. I can tell that Shane would of killed Shawn if he would pull more crap like that.
LOL. He wouldn't have done shit. He proved that.
Vince had a intense relationship with Shawn...and that's the reason Vince took Shawns side. it's inappropriate but it's true.
HE SURE DID// WAS IT HBK WHO CALLED VINCE[ MCMANICAN] BECAUSE ANY OTHER TALENT WOULD HAVE DONE THAT [ YOUR FIRED!!!]
Shawn fought off 50 navy seals or was it a hundred lol BUT that night did start the romance between Shawn and Tammy Lynn Sytch. I believe its what they call the
FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE EFFECT
Shawn got his ass kicked stop it
HBK fought off 50 Navy Seals lmao 🤣
bullshit, he couldn't even beat Marty Jannetty
😂😂😂 that gum chewing impersonation
a concussion relapse?...llmfao
I really enjoyed watching Shane in WCW and especially in ECW. I would have loved to see the Triple Threat face Degeneration X and Degeneration X get the Triple Threat over in WWF.
That wouldn't have happened. Come to think of it, all three members of the Triple Threat (Shane Douglas, Chris Candido, and Bam Bam Bigelow)were in the WWF around the same time in 1995 and the Kliq fucked all of them over in different ways.
Would have been a good payback for what they did to them and it would bring something new to WWF at the time.
Agreed. That would have been good to see.
