beach house’s music has this special touch of familiar loneliness. An unexplainable sadness. The kind that lingers but never harms. That has been my biggest comfort ever.
Bloom is such a perfect album. Even hearing just the opening notes of Myth send me to a place I can't put into words. No filler on that album at all (except for that massive silence after Irene :p )
The silence is because of the hidden track at the end. Quite a few M83 albums have this as well. I still don't really get why they include the silence on streaming services.

Beach House is the perfect band for introspection and the purifying of soul through song. The cozy intertwining of dark organs and shimmering guitars, the incomparable expressive force of Victoria's vocals, the wistful and melancholic melodic lines, the adventurous use of harmony and counterpoint, the lush and heavy production, the slow funereal pulse of the drum machines and those lyrics evocative of the profoundest affection and heartbreak; and yet the entire experience is much more than a sum of all the parts. Love me some Beach House! Definitely hear other songs like "Souvlaki Space Station" by Slowdive, "She Weaves a Tender Trap" by Swervedriver and "Cherry Coloured Funk" by Cocteau Twins as an influence to their music.
I cannot explain how much i love this video. I love Beach House, and seeing him mention all the songs that I love that aren’t well known (Elegy to the Void and Apple Orchard especially, those are some of my favorites) made my day.
It comes from the Greek “aitherios” which means “ether” or the air beyond the clouds, so “ethereal”, “spacey” or “otherworldly” are pretty useful when describing Beach House.
depression cherry was the first album that I've listened from them and it seriously changed my life im not even joking. the first time i heard levivation it made me cry because of how nostalgic it sound, but at the same time, it was melancholic but comforting.
I love this and I love the Depression Cherry praise in the comments but Mazzy Star and Hope Sandoval in general were a closer link to Beach House then MBV and Slowdive etc. Still they are all absolutely stunning groups..!
One of my fav artists that i really feel like do dreampop really well is "Dreams We've Had" His album "Everything and You" is one of my comfort albums and it just sounds so soothing, yet so filled with emotion at the same time.
Amazing video! More people need to watch this so that they know Beach House is so much more than just "Space Song". Their whole discography is brilliant!
I came back here to show appreciation because, even though I didn't come to dig Beach House much, through your video I got to discover Heaven or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins, which I might have played thrice or five times a day every day in the subsequent months. Thanks for that!
I really like the fact that this is something I’ve always had in my mind From the moment I met them and tray to find more music similar to them Which was impossible I could hear pieces of their style on their influences and other bands in their gender But I realized that what I felt as dreampop was just beach house Also Alex playing style influenced me so much on my own playing, I love him, he’s so elegant and dreamy, so clean, sparkly and melancholic
I had the pleasure of going on tour with Beach House earlier this year as one of their drivers. Needless to say I had never heard of them before then, but quickly became a fan and noticed their popularity more and more in social media. Granted, I have only heard them live, but I will download their albums and give everyone of their songs a listen. And after meeting and spending time with Alex and Victoria, I now have the pleasure of calling them friends. They are very wonderful and kind people. I do reach out to them from time to time to say hello and I hope someday our paths cross again. Great video.
My favourite band ever, still pushing the boundaries of dream pop today with Once Twice Melody, yet still chronically under-appreciated by the wider public ❤
Beach House defined the sound of love to me. Victoria is a poet and a musical priestess on the keys. Alex’s guitar oozes with emotion. They’ve created songs that will remain in my heart forever. Depression Cherry and Bloom are absolute masterpieces of our time. I hope these geniuses get all the success they deserve.
When I listen to Beach House, it's like I'm on a trip, I have this objective to go somewhere but instead I found myself staring at the sea on a purple sunset.
Whenever I listen to Beach House I feel like I am setting alone on a white empty room, or in a dreamlike surreal film like Alejandro Iñaritu and Andrei Tarkovsky.
it's crazy that Baltimore is so stuffed with incredible music, some of their biggest breakout acts, i at least have no recollection of ever getting around to seeing.....o i think I'd have remembered them though, of course heard the name plenty, but i think i might have been out of town a few years when they were getting started...??)
I wish they had mentioned the prolific Cocteau Twins by name (they played a song sample from them). The Cocteau Twins were quite original in they way that they made electric guitar sound like synthesizers. Also, the singer-chick would make up her own sort of words and language for the songs, instead of singing actual lyrics. The result was mystifying. And her operatic soprano voice was utterly heavenly. The Cocteau Twins are arguably an equal to Beach House in the sense of 1) writing prolifically, 2) writing challenging, mature compositions and 3) achieving an other-worldly, even Spiritual effect to their sound. Look at the UA-cam comments to their songs. You will find almost NO negativity, and instead a great outpouring of emotion, tears, tenderness, hurt, care and love. Same for Beach House!
Beach House is ridiculous!! Literally the music changed my life and made me a much more patient man. It put me into such deep thought, I don't expect anyone to understand but it gave me so much at a time I needed it the most!! I LOVE BEACH HOUSE!!

I never saw beach house as anything except dreampop, until their latest album. I don't know, but for me, 7 feels like their first step into shoegaze, because of songs Like Dark Spring and the single Alien.
Scally's slide guitar is so underrated
Love me some Beach House! Definitely hear other songs like "Souvlaki Space Station" by Slowdive, "She Weaves a Tender Trap" by Swervedriver and "Cherry Coloured Funk" by Cocteau Twins as an influence to their music.
Every song clip gave me chills. I'm in love with Beach House.
I cannot explain how much i love this video. I love Beach House, and seeing him mention all the songs that I love that aren’t well known (Elegy to the Void and Apple Orchard especially, those are some of my favorites) made my day.
I love how they said "ethereal, whatever that means" as if ethereal doesn't have a definition 😂
"extremely delicate and light in a way that seems too perfect for this world."
You're right, I take it back. Beach House is pretty ethereal.
@@Middle8 I love your videos! Thank you for responding 💙
@@Middle8 See, hit the nail on the head!
It comes from the Greek “aitherios” which means “ether” or the air beyond the clouds, so “ethereal”, “spacey” or “otherworldly” are pretty useful when describing Beach House.
It’s been overused wayyyyy too much in music journalism to the point where people just use it to describe heavy reverb
depression cherry was the first album that I've listened from them and it seriously changed my life im not even joking. the first time i heard levivation it made me cry because of how nostalgic it sound, but at the same time, it was melancholic but comforting.
I love this and I love the Depression Cherry praise in the comments but Mazzy Star and Hope Sandoval in general were a closer link to Beach House then MBV and Slowdive etc. Still they are all absolutely stunning groups..!
Elegy to the void is the most perfect song to use your funeral 👌
No lies here
My favorite band, their music is the best.
One of my fav artists that i really feel like do dreampop really well is
"Dreams We've Had"
His album "Everything and You" is one of my comfort albums and it just sounds so soothing, yet so filled with emotion at the same time.
Their song Aiyana is one of my favorites!
thank you for featuring Other People, truly a perfect pop song, and the most underrated on Bloom, i think.
Honestly i hope one day i get to just chill with you and a bunch of other people and geek out about music.
I think they’re philosophers at heart ❤️
I really like the fact that this is something I’ve always had in my mind
From the moment I met them and tray to find more music similar to them
Which was impossible
I could hear pieces of their style on their influences and other bands in their gender
But I realized that what I felt as dreampop was just beach house
Also
Alex playing style influenced me so much on my own playing, I love him, he’s so elegant and dreamy, so clean, sparkly and melancholic
Elegy to the Void is one of my all time favorite songs. Beach House 4ever bby.
Silver soul will forever remain one of my favorite songs of all time
My favourite band ever, still pushing the boundaries of dream pop today with Once Twice Melody, yet still chronically under-appreciated by the wider public ❤
So glad you did a video on Beach House! My favorite band.
10 Mile Stereo is a seriously underrated song but I'm glad because it feels like my own little gem i found.
it's crazy that Baltimore is so stuffed with incredible music, some of their biggest breakout acts, i at least have no recollection of ever getting around to seeing.....o i think I'd have remembered them though, of course heard the name plenty, but i think i might have been out of town a few years when they were getting started...??)
Speaking of Slowdive, they came out with an album in 2017 with a couple of really really good songs- "Sugar For The Pill" and "Star Roving".
I don’t have time to watch this but when I can, oh my god I’m so excited to, beach house is my shit
Same for Beach House!
love the nod to Julee Cruise. Feel like her stuff with David Lynch and Badalamenti really helped pave the way to Beach House
Cocteaus paved the way to all of that...
@@eboethrasher I love Cocteau Twins and Julie Cruise, but I don’t agree with you. So I guess we better start insulting each other now…
Beach House is ridiculous!! Literally the music changed my life and made me a much more patient man. It put me into such deep thought, I don't expect anyone to understand but it gave me so much at a time I needed it the most!! I LOVE BEACH HOUSE!!
Space Song is one of my fave songs of all time.
Every Beach House album is perfect, I think Bloom is my favourite
