Jeanne Reyes The series did indeed end but it will start up again. In the Anime, after this episode the series goes into filler. But in the Manga right after this episode they were supposed to transport to the OVA, Tokyo Revelations. It is when Fai starts to care more about friends and uses his magic to help them.
Knight of Oath they can easily put Tokyo revelations after the end of the anime, much less counterdictions and Fai's change wouldn't have seen as so sudden. Besides it didn't feel like filler, it felt natural, so you can always use timeline splits reason the existence of the rest of the anime.
I seem to remember in the earlier bits of this world in the manga his hyuu begins to alter a little and he remarks how much closer it sounded to a whistle. Granted this comment was in the middle of a fight.

Stealings bad, lets make the next episode so it the characters dont ACTUALLY steal."
