I love these personal stories of yours, Mike. The details of coincidences and serendipity are amazing. I wish I had half of what you have experienced. Very inspiring.
Mike, beautiful stories. I love the way they all come full circle. Sharing your aviation career with all of us here on UA-cam is a joy every week. Much gratitude and appreciation.
Dear Mike. Well sir I’ve learned while watching this video that you’re approximately 5 years my senior. I was born January of 1952. Christmas of 1956 I would have been a month away from my 5th birthday. My what a transformative time in the world then. We both share a passion for aviation and I am sincerely grateful for the time and effort that you put into sharing your love and knowledge of aircraft and aviation history. I was an avid modeler and as I have shared previously spent a good deal of time and effort building aircraft models. I am happy that you have your daughters aid now in your efforts and look forward to each new video that you release. May God bless your efforts as He keeps you strong and in good health. All the very best to you ✈️🛩️🛫😊👍🇺🇸
Hey Mike thanks for the picture of the Sauna hangar. That's where I used to go to watch airplanes when I was a kid. Got my PPL at Republic airport (FRG). 1st job outta college was at Fairchild Republic on the A-10 flight test pgm, before migrating to Douglas, where our tenures overlapped -I so loved working there, and the fine airplanes we designed & produced.
Dear Mike. Another lovely video as usual. If you can being a Douglas employee please do one on The Big Bunny which was Hugh Hefners personal DC9. I used to see this at Ringway Airport in Manchester UK.
Hello Mike, it is becoming difficult to tell which one of these presentations that You put out here is the best...All of them are very good and loaded with interesting facts... Lake Elsinore... I used to ride my 100cc motorcycle to there from MCAS El Toro on HWY 74, and continue onto Palm Desert, and into the Anza Borrego Desert back in the early '80s.. Such great memories that You bring back... Beautiful photos and great stories to go along with them... Those Space Shuttle , DC-8, F-15 and Constellation photos and paintings were particularily impressive !!! It is so awesome that You have Your daughter Melissa helping You with these challenging presentations... When You two send these out to be seen in You Tube, I feel as excited as my younger self being at a hobby shop , checking out the latest plane kits and engines that just became available !!! Somehow, You brought that back Mike, and I'm liking it!!!
Excellent video and amazing stories, as always! That's were the expression "over the hump" comes from, isn't it? 🤨🤔 I remember messaging a B-29 tailgunner back and forth many moons ago, he was a tailgunner during the Korean War if I remember correctly and I even received a signed book from him! Very exciting stuff for a young Swedish, well I had just turned 20, kid....
Here's one that happened to me! One evening, I was reading an article by a very skilled aircraft woodworker. The very next day I was parked next to him!
Mike I have your Home for the Holidays on my wall. Beautiful print! I really enjoyed the background of the piece. Do you have other commercial aviation prints?
Thanks for the comment, and yes, other vintage airliners in that limited-edition lithograph series include an Eastern Air Lines Golden Falcon Electra departing Miami, Braniff Douglas DC-7C departing Rio, and that same TWA Super-G on approach to LAX. Also a British Airways Concorde high over the Atlantic as a poster, plus many Airbus airliners. If interested, please email: mikemachat@gmail.com for images and more information. I'll be happy to ship them personally inscribed with a special discount from the channel.
Just seeing the nose of the Blanik, I knew what it was. The best sailplane flight I ever had was in a Blanik (but the Schleicher ASK21 did look cooler).
If anyone on the face of this planet can do justice to the 1949 PAA "Connie Piggyback Miracle", and "The incredible Captain George Knuth", it's you!! Sadly, his story should be titled "If you're meant to be shot....."; and the occurrence of similar outcomes is in no way rare........ Should you ever do anything regarding PAA Flight 214, I have a backup to the original "Cecil County Fire Dispatch/PAA 214 Tragedy at Elkton" incident tapes (complete, unedited, and digitized at 6ABC-Philly; Never-ending thanks, Keith). Rosemary Culley, the dispatcher that night, provided the original in 1993, and I provided her with the locked CD Master, and CDRW backup copy) I'll be more than happy to forward my archived research on these, and any of the nine-other case studies I've authored. Gotta get this one off-my-chest!: Mike, I've always dreaded corporate politics, especially after opening my mouth about turbine/vane harmonics, and their affect on H.I.R.F. ... (got "jammed" with helping out on the software-generated counter-harmonics thingy) However, you absolutely deserve zero criticism RE the BAC-MD Acquisition! I'd have thought the "get over it" phase should have concluded more than a decade ago; yet, the "BAC Money" stuff continues to rear it's ugly head!
Years ago there was a contact lens that you could wear in one eye that corrected color blindness. During an eye test I barely passed the color test and the optometrist had me look thru a slightly red hued lens of one eye to see the numbers I had missed. Is a color blindness condition that is correctable legal by FAA?
Great presentation, Mike. Those Kodachromes are amazing.

Having met you through the channel is yet another "amazing story," thanks Max!

Love the stories. FB is weird, but I’ve connected with a few people again as well.
That ain't irony,that is fate!
Mike and myself have one saying in common- " No one's going to take our Kodachromes away!"
Holy cow Mike, you knew Goose?! Aka Chris the surgeon
Fellow soaring pilot. Great channel!
Appreciate the comment, thanks!
Out of curiosity,
Might you have attended the Lynnwood Rotary Air Fair at Paine Field in Everett WA, back when that was a thing?
No, I did not, sorry. I was living in New York back then. Thanks for watching!
@@celebratingaviationwithmik9782 No biggie
Thanks for responding

I guess they had to 'bob' the wings about 15 feet to mount the tip tanks -- if you compare Mr Wicks; wingspan to Mr Machat's [5:16]..
As the saying goes...There are no coincidences...only God's way or remaining anonymous. Great stories. 👍👍👍
*MM: **_"Certain aviation phenomena simply cannot be explained."_*
You might call that the _Angle of Co-Incidence._ 😉

What I hate most about being color blind, is I can not have a private pilots certificate.
Really? My instructor had a waiver for his. Maybe it depends on the type of color blindness.
I guess so. At this late date even if they said I could, don't know if I would.@@ClausB252

After looking into it, yes. I can now fly private. Wish it was like this 40 years ago.@@user-wn4sl4qq5m
