    First of all thanks you for taking Time for our questions.It was really informative 👍 ......But i have 1more question lol...how did your Job and having a family get along? I mean What happen when you get pregnant? I mean Do you get mother-time.?....you know we woMen have to think about everythink ....lol

    • @NanaEjura
      @NanaEjura 10 років тому +1

      yeah same thing i was gonna ask. How do you balance work and family. Coz you have two kids right? also what happens when you get pregnant and all

    • @FloChinyere
      @FloChinyere  10 років тому +15

      Elikya_lafleur nanz E great and valid questions! :D
      I will answer those based on my experiences with the companies I was working with when I had my 2 children. These vary from company to company. Find out detailed info with the companies before you become pregnant, OK? :)
      First, once you get preggy, you stop going offshore. If the company is very big with lots of opportunities in the office, they will send you to one of the offices to fill up a position while you wait to have your baby. They will continue to pay you till you go for maternity leave.
      Some companies are not that big, so no positions for you in the office. Or the office location is far away from your home, in another city, even in another country. In that case, you will stay home and the company will continue to pay you your "plus days" till they are exhausted. Plus days are accumulated when you go for courses, meetings, to the embassies for visas etc any day that you spend doing work related stuff during your time off counts as a plus day. Also, travel days are counted as plus days so the more of these you have at the time you are pregnant, the longer you will be paid.
      For the first one where you work in the office, you will go for M-leave at the appropriate time. Typical M-leave in the industry is 6 months, you will continue to be paid. After M-leave, you can take compassionate leave, after that you can take a leave of absence. During LOA, you will not be paid but your job is still there for you to come back to.
      In the 2nd instance where you stay home from day 1, once they finish paying your plus days, you switch to maternity leave even though you are far from having your baby, they will pay you through M-Leave. When that one is exhausted, take compassionate leave, you can also negotiate other leaves that are available to you. Some companies will try as much as possible to pay you for much longer so speak with the HM of your company.
      You can also resign after M-leave to get your mind off work and focus on your baby and when you are ready you will contact your company again and they will rehire you. In this industry, once you have experience, going back to work is easy. If you are known as a diligent employee, they will happily have you back. You may be rusty during your first trip but it will all come back to you! :)
      To manage family life and this job, you will need a very supportive partner/spouse! You will need another close family relative/friend to take care of the kids when you are away. In spite of having someone else take care of them, your spouse plays the role of father and mother when you are not there so he has to be mentally ready to do that because it is NOT easy. But everything is easy when everyone concerned is ready to make a sacrifice. At the end of the day, it is for the good of the whole family. :)
      For me, sometimes, we just need someone, to come in the morning and take them to school and hubby will pick them up on his way back from work. Everything depends on your family circumstances so do what is best for you in this area. Some men/relatives may have variable work hours/shifts, some work very long hours 18 hours/day etc in that case, it will be very difficult for them to coordinate things while you are away. Be realistic when planning and define what both of you want.
      Remember that when you are home, you are home full time for your family so you can make up for the time you were away. With time, you can go freelancing and with a few times a year of work, you are ok.
      I hope I answered everything! :D

    Thank you for this video, i am so inspired. I have quite a background in the oil and gas industry. Please i have questions: how was the transition for you when you moved abroad? I understand you live in spain. Was language a barrier? Did your race affect your getting a job. Because i moved to europe and i have asked all the africans i know here, living here for about 12 yrs. Yet all they get is janitorial jobs despite their degrees. Another question: how did you cope with your job when you just had your babies? Thanks

    • @ladykingtv9705
      @ladykingtv9705 5 років тому +2

      Jennifer Norman well u said all the Africans you know n pls not all Africans re doing janitor jobs in Europe. Some re professionals too. It’s either you translate your certificate to the country’s language n get it verified by world examination board n then u do some additional course in the country u re to add to it n also learn d language n start looking for job n there re those who decided to take d diploma certificate in d country they re n then enroll into university or do other courses then start looking for a job... just don’t give up n remain focus n with God’s help... everything will go well....

      dancenijas no, you don't have to be a swimmer to do this job and ability to swim is not a requirement. Yes there is land seismic they work in deserts, jungles and sometimes inside some cities. But not all seismic companies do land seismic. Check out CGG and WesternGeco for land seismic opportunities.
