I made case lube with 91 alcohol and RCBS-2 case pad lube. It works perfectly well. I spray the cases abs let dry for 15 seconds and they are easy to go. It also prevents the expander from getting dirty.
Thanks for this tip. I've been using your recipe for about 9 months on 308 cases. Works a real treat and such good value, not too mention how quick it is to apply.... Pete
I mixed up and used my first batch of this lanolin / alcohol case lube today " and I was very skeptical " , started sizing & de-priming .223 on a Lee APP press . It worked really great.
This is by far the best quality lube dollar/dollar; been using it since I started reloading. I mixed mine even thinner (12:1) and had zero issues. I use a reusable tupperware container with lid, toss in my cases and rattle around for a minute or two, remove the lid for a few minutes allowing some of the alcohol to evaporate then start resizing. With the tupperware container there is no loss of the liquid lanolin and upon doing the next batch of cases there is residual lanolin in the container which is then softened by the the next spray so I waste none. Love your videos man!
This is AWESOME! Just a few sprays in a 1 gallon ziplock bag filled with brass. Shake it up good and let sit so the alcohol evaporates. Now you have the smoothest sizing of brass you've ever had. Saves a ton of time. Thanks for the tip bud!
Use PEG 75 Lanolin, its completely water soluble, at a 10-1 ratio. If you cant find 99% iso alcohol, you can use the Heet fuel treatment in the RED bottle which is also 99% iso alcohol. Adding a couple of ball bearings to the bottom makes it easier to shake up too. Lastly, use a quality sprayer bottle, and some cheap ones dont like alcohol.
I've seen several people letting the alcohol evaporate before using. All in all, it's a great idea. The alcohol thins the oil out and after evaporating, it leaves the cases with a VERY thin coating of the case lube. I've seen people take a gallon plastic bag and put a few "misty" squirts of the mixture into the bag of brass, close the bag and manually move the brass around inside the bag, thus distributing the lube. You're absolutely right. I tiny amount is all you need. Personally, I love this stuff.
Great video. Question for you once you resize them do you tumble them again to remove the lube from it or just leave it on since it's a small amount of lube?
Kurt, I have been using this for years I just pour out about an ounce of the alcohol and replace it with Lanolin and three or four Round balls to shake it upand the balls mix it up really fast
I find it easier to mix it 16:1. I don’t let alcohol evaporate. I size the cases as soon as they are sprayed. Sizing 308 Winchester cases kind of reminds you what 45 ACP cases feel like when being sized with carbide dies. I’ve been reloading since 1968 and before a friend got me started with homemade lube, the best I found was Dillon lube.
I have been making and using this product for about 2 years now I do spray them and let sit for maybe three , four minutes for the alcohol to evaporate and that leaves just the lanolin on case and it is super slick.
I know this was made before the pandemic. But as we all know, finding alcohol was as tough as finding toilet paper! An alternative is to use Heet fuel system cleaner, basically pure alcohol and works the same in case you can't find the alcohol at your local pharmacy.
I’ve used this for about a year now, good stuff. A couple tips: it separates pretty quickly so be sure to shake it well before you start a new batch, or you’ll suck close to pure lanolin into the spray tube, Way too thick! Next 1:12 is probably better and be sure to use a thin coat. It can build up in the die on the shoulder area and dent the shoulders if you use 1:10 mix or apply too heavy, and you might not notice the shoulders are getting dented as it can get milky on the shoulder and it’s hard to tell. Thx for the videos!
I've used that for.years liquid lanolin comes in a 4oz bottle I would mark it off by 4th dinner for one portion in a bottle in at a bottle of liquid heat you can get it in the automotive section and mix that up like you said Butter lol
I got my ingredients and mixed up a bunch of Lanolin/Alcohol spray. I tried it out on 50 223 cases, and it worked GREAT -- for the first 49! The last one managed to get stuck in the sizing die. I have no idea why! I guess I won't be selling my Stuck Case Remover on Ebay.
Been using this method for years. NEVER had an issue. I just leave the rnds loose in a plastic bowl & spray the heck out of them making sure I'm getting lube inside the necks. (The 'lube' is CHEEEEP!!!) Let the alcohol evaporate and start working the brass. The lube is good for your hands as well to keep them soft.
When I saw this video and others that use lanolin mixed with alcohol I kept thinking where did I see and use lanolin in the past. And then it hit me. Lanolin is in saddle soap which I use on my saddles (duh) and what I used in baseball mitts back in the day. I used some saddle soap tonight to lube some .308 cases and it works perfectly. So no need to go on line and look for lanolin, just go to most any store and buy some saddle soap.
I tried a product called brass butter that sprayed like that and didn’t like it , yours works better I have used the Lee. lube for 20 years and just recently have tried the roller pad , the only thing I didn’t like was lubing the case throat
I had bought some Hornady one-shot and found it to be the worst case lube on the market. I’m 75 and have been hand loading since I was 20. With the Hornady product I had more stuck cases than I had in my entire reloading career. 3 stuck cases out of 10. I mixed up this recipe and have had zero problems. It’s a bit sticky afterwards but I just run the cases thru the tumbler again.
Hornady one shot requires a few different critical steps, but it absolutely works great. First, you have to shake it pretty well before use. Second, you have to wait for it to flash off. Usually a few minutes is good. I've sized tens of thousands of cases, and never had a stuck case, so that tells you it's completely user error. I will be switching to this method just for price sake, if it works like everyone says it does.
Imperial sizing wax is what I use never come close to a stuck case, but I think I will give this a go, I like to use my fingers to apply the ISDW...... can you use this with your digits also?
Wow great info thanks! Your reloading press flexes ... driving me crazy lol I have my press mounted to a thick butcher block table made from hard maple and no flexing at all. Thanks again for your great videos.
Well it is now Feb 2021 and who woulda thunk - Primers and powder are pretty much non-existent in all stores. I left CA and moved to Texas. I brought all my reloading equipment with me except powder and primers. Now I am in limbo when it comes to reloading.
The REAL challenge of lanolin-based case lube is how to get it off after resizing. Dawn liquid dish detergent just turns the cases (and fingers and everything else) black.
How do you clean the residue off the cases after sizing? The RCBS sizing lube I've been using is water soluble so just some water on an old towel does the trick for me.
I used that but put the bottle in a 91 percent Alcohol spray bottle. It takes a few minutes to dilute but it does the exact same thing no stuck cases. Evaporates in 30 seconds.
Good video Curt - wonder what I'm going to buy with all the money I save??? :) 2 quick questions - #1 any need to wipe the cases after or straight into the rifle? #2. Does it build-up within the die? Thanks.
This like any case lube will leave a slick layer on the brass. It’s a good idea to wipe them all down before reloading them or putting them in to a firearm. When it comes to the dies, I do try and wipe them out with a clean Q-Tip and after a several hundred rounds I do a complete cleaning of my dies.
Boiling hot water plus dish soap shake in a large plastic container with top on. Drain excess water and roll cases,in towel place in small convection oven to dry, not at a high temperature.
Tommy J aaaaaaahhhhhhh 😫 damn amazon..! Thanks for pointing that out.! I’ll figure out what went wrong and change it. Thanks for the heads up man.! Really appreciate it.!

I mixed it 1:10 so I will try the 1:12 instead it might also get rid of my sticky case problem.

will this contaminate the powder and primer?
Awesome
Can you load the cases with powder right after sizing, or does the mix contaminate the powder? Would be sweet to use this in a progressive press

Pretty cool...a little of that goes a long way, saving $$$ compared to lube cost👍 Besides a spray/mist not as messy/dirty as a lube tray👌
Which die is screwed in your press? Thank you.
I use both Redding and Mighty Armory dies

Where did you get the tall screws for mounting?
The REAL challenge of lanolin-based case lube is how to get it off after resizing. Dawn liquid dish detergent just turns the cases (and fingers and everything else) black.
You forgot to mention letting the cases sit about 15 minutes after spraying to let the alcohol dry off for best results.
Would you say this mixture is similar to the hornaday one shot dry lube spray.
@@JB-kf3yb Closer to the Dillon spray.
Love the stuff. Haven't stuck a case since I switched. a long time ago.
I've found 10:1 is a little tacky, I've used 12:1 with no issues, feels just like DCL.
Don't forget to spray the inside of the case necks

Did you ever shoot that Savage FV at 1000 yds?
TheOkWoodsman yes we did. Unfortunately we need to go again and get more footage shot. It’s been very hard to coordinate due to scheduling.

Great $$ saving hack
Great channel man
For those who wet tumble after resizing, lanolin is not water soluble so it makes a disaster of the drum, pins and brass. Ask me how I know 😂
Late reply but for anyone reading this, PEG-75 Lanolin is what you want to use, it IS water soluble. Hard to find though.
What do you use to clean lube off the cases after resizing?
Thanks in advance
Just rubbing alcohol or Dawn dish soap in a large bowl of water
@@vaughnprecision
Ok thank you...Sounds good...
Sorry for a question on an old video. Do you clean the cases after resizing with this spray?
G Lewis yes, I usually toss them in the cleaner to remove some lube.
Thanks for the vid Curt. I need to make some of this.
Thanks for the info👍
How do you remove it from the cases quickly without using a wet tumbler?
Pull them out..?
@@vaughnprecision no…how do you remove the lube from the cases after they’ve been resized without a wet tumbler?
How do you get it off the cases again?
Boiling hot water plus dish soap shake in a large plastic container with top on. Drain excess water and roll cases,in towel place in small convection oven to dry, not at a high temperature.
What about the inside of the case neck? I usually shoot 30-06 out of an M1 which puts quite a beating on the necks.
@1847dan Same question
Isn't this stuff pretty much what Dillon Case Lube is?
I mixed mine 1:8. 32 oz. Bottle of 99% and 4 oz bottle of Lanolin.
Now you can use 99% isopropyl as a solvent when you clean your dies
Great video
What is the best method to remove this lubricant before loading the cases?
wbbh I usually just wipe them off with a rag. I’ve also run them in the ultrasonic cleaner to though.
@@vaughnprecision Thanks for the quick answer..
Pam spray work very well also.
Isn't this still cheaper?
how many cases approx. are you getting out of a bottle?
More than a thousand but I never really paid attention to how long a bottle will last
thank you@@vaughnprecision and Jeff on the ASAP to do list for sure
Can you use 70% alcohol?
Yes but 91 or higher is better. You don't want a high amount of water stay.
Your "Isopropyl Alcohol 3 pack' link takes you to a 70% solution. You should, as you said in the video, be using 99%.
Tommy J aaaaaaahhhhhhh 😫 damn amazon..! Thanks for pointing that out.! I’ll figure out what went wrong and change it. Thanks for the heads up man.! Really appreciate it.!
Why couldn’t we use denatured alcohol instead.
Not sure, maybe you can use it. I’ve never tried it but I bet it would work
Reason why I asked denatured has zero water in it. If one couldn’t find 99% isopropyl alcohol
@@63stikman the 99% is very hard to find at times. If you try this, let me know how it works for you, I’m curious
@@vaughnprecision will do
eBay has it 9.95 16oz bottle. Or 31.95 gal. Walmart.com has it for 57.95 a gallon. Yes Ima try denatured wood grain alcohol first.
Even easier use coconut oil
Does the lubricant have to be 99% alcohol.
Higher is better.
Appreciate the information @@humansvd3269

The 99% alcohol evaporates cleanly leaving just the lanolin behind. 70% Iso alcohol WILL leave other gunk on your cases.
Less Expensive!?!? I just ordered these ingredients and spray bottles from Amazon -- Costs $60 including S&H!
Did you mean to link 70% iso instead of 99% ?
Use 99 or 81.
