Maybe I did a rubbish job of explaining it?!? In summary, it’s a new filter system that does everything. If you don’t own a filter system and do a bit of video, landscape, special effects filters you could invest in this one system and it would cover all the bases.
Nice video as usual ...but....Gaahh! another filter system! I'm rather invested in the Kase system and apart from the magnetic attachment - they are very tough and of course colour neutral. But on top of that they never smear or stain - anything that gets on them just wipes straight off. I hope the Freewell filters come up to that. One other thing - they seem to be very over-engineered and I think that not being able to take square grads from other makers might put a lot of landscape photographers off who might otherwise have made the change.
Hi Dave, I know - too much choice when it comes to filters. I have three from Freewell alone. But maybe that is the point, bringing them all into one. It is frustrating that this system cannot accept existing 100mm filters, but that would have made it larger still, and the square filters need a metal surround to stop the glass scratching as it slides in to the system. Freewell made no mention of the coating in their briefing, I am familiar with what you are saying about rain literally wicking straight off coated filters - which is really handy.
Some thought been put into the design Ben and as a user of the Kase magnetic system, I certainly can see how the Freewell could be attractive given the added versatility their system is offering on the basis of being a magnetic system. The inability to use other 100mm branded filters may deter some people but can knock their innovative approach
Hey Jim, exactly. They are innovating, no one else has a system that takes magnetic filters round and square. It’s very creative. I think that this system is best suited to anyone not already invested in a system, as I am sure your Kase holder works perfectly for what you need it for. I shoot video and stills, so constantly switch between round and square.
Great video thank you for your time and knowledge with the new K2 magnetic filter I'm new to photography and plan on buying some filters not sure if you have used the wolverine Kase filters if so was wondering which ones do you like better?
Hi Shay, which filter system will be best for you depends on what you typically shoot and the circumstances. The K2 filter system is for hybrid shooters that do photo and video, like I do. I have not used the Wolverine Kase filters to make comment, but if you let me know what you typically shoot then I can help you out. Thanks.
