    Nice. But I thought the ball loses spin the longer it flies.. So I thought later the ball spins less..I understand the fact that you you need less force when hitting early because the ball still has speed.. Confused!

      The longer the ball flies the spinnier it is , take forehand counter topspin as an example, you want to do it as early as possible, if you let the ball drop ,there is huge amount of topspin, therefore difficult to counter

      Objects doesn't accelerate from nothing, this apply to spin on a ball. If you contact the ball at point 2, the trajectory in upward so it's easier to lift up the ball compare to when it has already goes down.

      @@rationalttanalysis But when you watch the best players, it seems that with heavy backspin they topspin the ball very soon after the ball reaches maximum height. I too feel that it is good to hit at 2-point as you said when the backspin is light or average, but with a heavy backspin I find it easier to return the topspin just after the ball has reached maximum height.

      @@pierrejacquin8150agree, contact point 2 more on redirecting and borrowing upward momentum

    The ball doesn’t become spinnier after point 3. The spin stays the same because of the conservation of momentum. It gets harder to lift the ball because it’s easier to use the upward motion of the ball and reflect it on your racket as opposed to work against the backspin and the downward motion together

    At at 3:25 “The later after the ball bounces on the table, the spinnier it becomes”. How does the ball GAIN more spin when its in the air? I agree that you want to hit it early, but the associated logic is not right.

      I also think he is wrong.

    • @rationalttanalysis
      @rationalttanalysis  Рік тому

      As the ball bounces and hits the table, the friction reduces the rotation, after the bounce the rotation increases which makes the ball spinnier.

      The ball doesn't increase it's rotational energy while in the air. It's impossible.

      This is definitely standard TT wisdom. The idea here is at the moment where the ball makes contact with the table, the friction of the table upon contact stops the spin. And I think we can all agree that at the moment of contact with the table, the ball isn't spinning. The spin then returns as the ball moves away from the table only to slow down again. If this is correct is another matter.

      @@rationalttanalysis I was told that you would want to hit a ball with backspin between point 3 and 4 due to the natural "lifting" motion of the backhand stroke? Unless there are different philosophies?

    A very good explanation of the topspin on the right. For myself, I took the useful thing that it is necessary to move not so much up, but up-to the right. Thank you very much!!!

    Bravo on this great backhand topspin vs underspin ball coaching video. As usual the details n graphic are awesome. Since you live in HK, can I request a coaching video of penhold special strokes that makes it really different from handshake grip🙏🏼

      Thanks for your comment! As I'm not a shakehand player, I don't know a lot about penhold techniques. However, in the future, I can do a series of penhold technique tutorials after some research, for example the reverse penhold backhand (RPB).

    Regarding weight shift, it seems like sometimes it from right to left (FZD , ML first footage) and sometimes it is from the left to right (Lilly Zhang and ML with LG)

    • @chebkhaled1985
      @chebkhaled1985 Рік тому

      Let me rephrase that : sometimes you put the weight on the right foot, sometimes on the left

    • @rationalttanalysis
      @rationalttanalysis  Рік тому +4

      This is a very good point. According to a recent video where Fang Bo demonstrates the backhand topspin , he says that if the ball is to the left side of you, you put weight on your left foot. If the ball is to the right side, you put weight on your right. If it is in the middle, you can decide which foot to put weight to.
      But… one thing is certain, you’ll never shift your weight from right to left as a right-handed player, you can put weight on your right, but then you go even right or go forward, not to the left.
      Hope that helps !

  • @zizo015
    @zizo015 Рік тому

    Thanks again. You said the waist and body should rotate horizontally following the weight transfer. I understand horizontally as sideways from left to right without or with only a little vertical component (down-up). Right? So first go down, transfer the weight to the left leg, turn waist/body/legs to the left left and then rotate only sideways to the right. This means that only the arm with the racket will be moving down-up + sideways to right + forward.. In this setup the ball will be hit slightly to the right of the body in front of the left hip??
    Am I correct with the above points? The body stays low through the whole shot!? Thanks a lot and I love your analysis and understanding of tt

    • @rationalttanalysis
      @rationalttanalysis  Рік тому

      Thanks for your comment! Yes absolutely. You’re right with the above points. And yes your body should stay low through the whole shot but move your body from backwards to forwards

    • @zizo015
      @zizo015 Рік тому

      @@rationalttanalysis thanks. You said the body should move from backwards to forward. What do you exactly mean with "horizontal"?
      Does it mean: At the SAME low level horizontally from backwards to forward while rotating the hip and swinging the racket hand upwards lifting the ball? So the lift comes from the hand+wirst (mainly upwards movement) and the power comes from the body/hip rotation (forward movement)..??? Thanks in advance
