My guess for this was that unlike Reach, Halo 3 had a campaign level with snow in it, and Reach only had a single multiplayer map with snow (iirc it was released post launch too) so most likely they didn't see the need to put those material effects in Reach just for a map
Reach has snow levels too. The reason is probably just being that Halo 3 was a game made toward the beginning of the gen while Reach was towards the end. And Reach was a bigger game than 3 was
Cool, will you release a standalone mod that just has better snow material effects? Basically vanilla Reach with better snow effects. Have you considered a mod for Reach that reintroduces better features from past games? These features could vary from material effects to destructible vehicles to even dual wielding (even if it’s just the same balancing from 2 or 3).
call me crazy, but I think a lot of stuff in reach feels like Bungie was just done with the series and desperate to get it out the door. The worse looks engine, the grimier visuals, the unrefined sandbox, the unbalanced elites, and more boring characters all just reeked of desperation to get it over with.
Its a shame that they started downgrading the visual details in reach, then 4 made it worse, 5 made it even worse, than infinite made it even worse. Its the main reason I stick modding halo 3 because I just enjoy all the small details like that. Even if 4 would be easier to mod.
The detail for textures on objects and etcetera got better, it's just the environmental details like the snow/sand footprints and water effects took a total nosedive after 3. It still low-key bugs me how unreactive the water is in every Halo game after 3.
This was a great advertisement for a Mass Effect mod in Halo. You've hooked me. lol

Reach Campaign has snow. Several snowy areas, under and around Sword Base.

Love this! Makes the environment more lively for sure
Happy Halodays!
Any update for Halo Fallout?
Been pretty focused on the reach mods lately and just haven't had the time to go back to odst.
I was just looking to see when you last posted.
Neato.
Got here when the vid got 343 views lol

Could be frozen ground.

Probably not standalone this will be used for the mass effect mod and any other halo mods I make in reach
