Historic Frame: 6 snookers required | John Spencer vs Jimmy White | 1987 British Open QF

  • An admirable effort by John Spencer from 66 behind, showing great spirit and determination in fighting for a critical but almost impossible frame and putting as much pressure as possible on a Jimmy White at his best. The triple world champion plays at a high level and shows us what his generation was made of. A score bar is displayed at the bottom for you to follow Spencer's progress closely.
(Warning: the result is mentioned below)
Arguably, this is the frame with the highest number of snookers needed that ends in victory in professional competitions.
The statistics shown in the video correspond to the date of the match.
Cesar Muroya created a unique editing technique to extract the essence of the game without losing the drama involved. Contextual information is also an innovation appreciated by viewers.
This format is not intended to substitute the full version but rather to make snooker more accessible to new fans. The fluency and atmosphere of the game stay in a shorter length video, allowing even experienced fans to enjoy snooker at any time.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, excellent presentation....
mentioning, who is commentating, the score, and snooker's
required, (in a "score bar," at the bottom)... and MOST importantly,
NO STUPID MUSIC, blaring away....(A note to other snooker channels)
    The music DOESN'T HELP !!
And as stated below, by Carl, john Spencer WAS a real GENT,
my dad (Jack Gregson, not famous,) had many games against John,
at "Spencers" snooker hall, and once asked him, why he played with
so much side on the q-ball, he replied, "because I can't see the middle"
sadly, this came to be true, as he had very real problems with his vision
towards the end of his career...TRULY A GREAT GENT THOUGH....

@@CesarMuroya You are correct Cesar, the definition of effort suggests that it would apply to either a success or failure. However (certainly from my own experience in England) when someone says something like _...it was admiral/great effort..._ when referring to an endeavour, it is like a turn of phrase to mean essentially good try, but not quite good enough.
It's not so much that you used the word incorrectly, but you used it in a peculiar way to me. As I always say to my Nigerian friend when pointing this kind of thing out...it marks you out as a non English speaker! Keep up the great content though buddy!

SavageArfad I agree. But still, all top players of today are pretty good at escaping snookers. Jimmy was a top player back then and still got away with it. It wouldn’t have been possible nowadays.

Jimmy was a player who potted so many balls in a single hand whenever he was given chance but he was not paying good time in breaking snookers because he had no time all the day long for practicing snookers because he just play and pot balls after balls in a single hand all time😊

Six snookers in that spot and not conceding in a non-elimination game, even with the short format is disrespectful towards your opponent.
Was Jimmy White outwardly critical of John Spencer doing this? Were their critics of John Spencer's gamesmanship given the number of snookers required?
I don't know if Jimmy White just said "the heck with it after the seven-point foul, I just want to get on with it," but it sure as hell looked that way.
