The new Swans limited edition 2xLiveCD (hand-printed and customized) and with assorted fundraiser options in support of the new Swans studio album (as yet untitled and in progress) is now available. Oh lord this is primal. It's why I've always loved Swans. It the very base of my person and send pulses of some mysterious force.

@@victorwhite8356 not really, the actual song on their album The Cloud of Unknowing would be the evolution of this. I just really wish we had a full recording of this softer version. The Cloud of Unknowing is a great song/piece but this softer version is so nice.
@@nicknickson3650 Well yeah but what I mean is that both songs are connected, like at first I didn't see the similarities between Cloud of Unknowing and The Hanging Man, but after seeing them perform the latter on Sunday, I totally realized the connection between the two and how the Hanging Man most probably evolved from this live version of Cloud of Unknowing...
this atmosphere is so strong, constantly moving a shifting. like its alive.. i love this part of swans.. really think its awesome their later style (formula) for going about making their music.. constantly fading in and out of layers and making small changes as it grows..

+Zac R IMO To Be Kind is essentially a better version of the Seer.
+Bryan Chiang the Seer is their best album in my opinion, but i can understand that somebody think To Be Kind is better
Công Tuấn Anh Phan I feel that To Be Kind is essentially The Seer but without some of the weaker songs, like The Wolf, Song for a Warrior etc. But that's my opinion and I thank you for respecting that.

+Anal Fissures Are Quite Fun If You Ask Me Idk, Gira's 60 now, and he took a good 15 year break last time Swans disbanded. Another break like that I doubt he'll have the ability to continue. Hell, he might even be deaf by then

I own this live album after buying it from seeing their acoustic show. First time hearing it high the day after the concert was fucking unreal

I do hope that "The Gate" one day gets a full release, like with "We Rose from Your Bed with the Sun in Our Head." Had I been in the loop at the time, I would have gotten in on the fundraiser immediately. Still gonna donate what I can, cause hell if Gira and team don't deserve it.

I like this idea I've seen The StarKids using fundraisers to fund their musicals I hope it's working. Also, offering specialty items at concerts might be something if it isn't already happening. I'd love to attend a live show.
if the tour of this is there last i must go to see them live i live in the north of England so lets hope you come here but if not traveling to other parts of the country will be done

I received 'The Gate' a while back, but didn't have the chance to listen to it more than once while doing chores. My first impression: brilliant once more. I didn't recognize anything resembling the above song while listening howerver. Any idea what this track is? A one of, or a song that will be featured on the new album?

bojadinnnnnnnnnn yeah exactly what davethehostage said. it simply reminded me of Neurosis, a band that has openly aknowledged their Swans influence (to the point that they did a collab with Jarboe)

Man, I just DO NOT GET the live version of Swans. On the albums, there's so much stuff going on that it's incredible, live however it's just them playing a single chord for a million times. That didnt matter in the 80s because the sound and rhythms were way more menacing, but now it's closer to normal rock music. What am I missing?
I think it's a "you have to be there" sort of thing because so far the live albums and videos are just them playing one or two chords in eights for 30 minutes or so...not my idea of "THE BEST THING EVER"

The chord usually gets build on top of slowly. So it’s kind of like watching a dam overflowing with a steady stream. It seems slow and steady but then build up tension and a flood of sound creates the climax. It varies from song to song though.

Yes their last album came out late last year, it's called Leaving Meaning. I'm sure Swans are already working on a new album again
