Edward Turner got the name Thunderbird from the Thunderbird Hotel here in the states. The color is "thunder blue" blue gray. I restored one using nothing but OEM and NOS parts, except the exhaust and wiring. It took me over five years, but well worth it. I won first place at Mid-Ohio Vintage Motorcycle Days, motorcycle show.
Beautiful bike, Brian . You say most of the early ones are blue, and I don't doubt you, but I have been looking around for one here in the UK and have yet to encounter that colour, which I prefer. The three that are presently on the market are all Blackbirds,,,!
It was called "thunder blue" it was a blue gray. I really like it. I restored one and it took over five years. It was all OEM and NOS except the wiring and exhaust. I sold it, it was just too small for me, but I really regret it. All I have are photos a trophy, and memories.
