I love the way Tina set up this video. She brought in someone from that culture to explain the significance behind the custom and is obviously quite eager to learn. Good job!
shes not even indian tho... even if she did then im assuming she would get backlash and requests to try a bunch of more cultures. she would feel the need to overwork herself. with all due respect is that what u want?
Yamini the thing is there are people who'll jump to conclusions and call her "racist" even though she's not. I don't want Tina to get hate even if it means not being able to see the video.
Honestly to those who say this is cultural appropriation, I'm Indian and don't think so. As long as you aren't doing it because it's "trendy" and appreciate it. In fact, most people really enjoy when other cultures are fascinated or appreciate Mehendi. Don't hate on me, but on the other hand I feel like WHITE HENNA kinda is. It isn't even made by the leaf and is only "trendy" cuz of Coachella and online trends. It was never traditionally used and has no cultural significance.
But it's not true bro .. white henna had been in use since rule of hindu lords.. though it wasn't mare from the stuffs she told but it was made from ' khari' .. a kind of naturally occurring calcium. It was used widely during monarchy in India, Bangladesh and srilanka .. so I must rectify u .. that ur idea about white henna is wrong
Henna itself is trendy. I am arab and here we dont do it because of a deep meaning. Is not religious is not anything like that is only for BEAUTY. We do it to feel pretty in parties and celebrations thats it. Like an accesorie
My mom uses henna to dye her hair, mainly because she's self-conscious about her greys and henna doesn't have PBD in it like regular hair-dyes. (she became highly allergic to PBD, to the point where she had to take medication so it didn't kill her, although she still reacted pretty badly to it) The henna also made her hair healthier after she used it.
I loved the way she was caring enought to talk about the culture behing it and searched for an indian women to explain. That was very respectful, I definitily don't think this is cultural apropriation. seriously, I wish everyone had the same respect that you have with cultures that are different than yours... Very proud
Please try the Eborian CC Creme it starts of white and once you blend it in it changes colour and will adapt to your skin tone. It would be great for a new Tina Tries It. I've seen other youtubers try it but I would love to see it from your perspective
Sorry it’s so late! Just wanted to give you some info on this CC Cream. It doesn’t actually adjust to your skin tone, if you look carefully into the product, you will see tiny black dots. This is pigment bubbles. So when you apply the product toy your face, the pressure will but the bubble of pigment making it turn from a white, to skin tone. So it doesn’t adjust to your skin tone, the pre - coloured pigment bubble just release the colour.

it's actually called both henna and mehndi 😂😂😂 a certain country or region cannot claim henna cuz it's used in many cultures and regions of the world Like some parts of Africa, in Arab countries, and the sub continent.
Henna is very popular in middle east ! I'm from Afghanistan and people in my culture use henna in Eid, henna night and more 😆 so it's not only used in India
I'm so so glad you got into the culture behind henna. Living in America, I see henna in places like Disney World and on beaches where it's not part of the culture. I see so many people during the summer time with henna, not even knowing what culture it is apart of
Well,it originated in Africa and the fact that henna was used to cover the feet while in the sand from the hot sun. It was used a medicinal treatment and later people decided to use it on their skin for decorations and fun. So its actually a people thing not just cultural
To avoid the henna to flake off during the waiting process, usually a proffesional henna artist would spray henna sealant which is made of sugar and lemon juice to keep the paste moist and stick onto the skin much better to ensure a better stain. The aftercare is usually not only to keep ur hands warm, you do not wash the henna off! You have to scrap it off and then rub olive oil to help mature the stain better. Try to avoid water within the next 4hrs after removal
If you come India you can see more talented hena artist even on streets and what I prefer is specially place called Dehradun in India this place is having amazing hena artists....
I am a Indian I applied henna on every occasion It is so good and oraganic art of hands and feet Everyone should try it as indians always apply this on hands
Omg thats amazing...finally you tried something which i love the most... do try some of my henna designs as well, as they are unique and easy as well...:)
You can use henna on your hair too! And if you mix some coffee powder in it and it makes a burgundy colour and it amazing how healthy it makes your hair
Well some people may find it difficult but if you observe this closely henna designs are all about repeatation. I mean if you can draw straight line repeat side by side few times, if you can draw a circle then draw some more concentric rings enclosings that circle... Hope it helps to those who wanna try by themselves... Itz really very beautiful.
I love the white henna, it is very elegant and cute especially with the flowery mid arm design. I don't know a lot about henna so sorry if I'm not making any sense or am saying some of the terms wrong.
Muslims and Arabs aren’t the only ones who wear it. Pakistanis, Indians, Afghanis, etc (basically anyone in the Middle East although not limited to) wear it. It’s not limited to Muslims and Arabs cause Hindus and others also wear them. Also, you can wear them at party’s like weddings (it’s kind of a tradition in these countries for women to wear henna on their hands when there’s a wedding although it’s not required) - it’s not limited to Eid. Mehndi - or henna as it’s more commonly known as in the west - can be worn anytime you want to wear it. It’s fun to put it on because the designs are awesome and look nice and sometimes you can smell your hands and it’ll smell nice, but I digress. يوميات فرح !! Fun fact if you’re not familiar with henna - sometimes women mix them into a paste and put them in their hair. You leave it in your hair for a while and then when you wash it, it gives your hair a nice reddish hue, although I don’t know what will happen if you put it in blonde hair

white henna is safe, whereas black henna is not. Either way, do a spot test before doing a full design to confirm that you're not allergic to any of the ingredients
White henna is basically a paint, as it sits on the skin instead of staining it and tattooing it like natural brown henna. It's not necessarily bad for you like black henna though.
Palestinian engagements/bachelorettes are called Henna parties... where a lady is hired to do the henna of all the bridesmaids and guests and the bride gets one alone full arms and legs... it's beautiful, big part of the Arab culture too in Gulf Arabia especially where it began.
Henna (also called mehandi) is so popular around South Asia and countries like Pakistan,Africa and India... I love the one in red colour ....we use it on religious festivals apart from wedding days as well... I'm glad you appreciate and never hesitate in trying new things out in depth from many cultures..... keep the good work up!
Black henna is okay to use so long as it is organic, the natural dye they use is jagua oil. It gives a more bluish type of black colour but still appears black nonetheless.
I’ve often wondered what a traditional Hindu wedding is like. They look so fun!! Imagine spending that much time with your family and besties! I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the next chapter in your life. 💖💖💖😺

I get the point of cultural oppropriation, but it is just henna. It is perfectly fine to wear it even if your not indian. Poeple shouldnt be discriminating but imbrasing different cultures
hey just fyi, there is also a similar product called jagua that is black in color and leaves behind a blue black stain. it ends up looking more like an actual tattoo, and its made from a different plant than henna. not sure about the chemical content because ive only looked into it casually, but its used more in my current city than henna
Love your channel, you clearly aknowledge that it is from a different culture but educate yourself and help us educate ourselves about what it is that you’re doing to yourself.
You can try bengali bridal make up if you're willing to explore with Indian culture. We put chandan art on our face similar to the white henna and you can google more about it. 😊
We Indian call it mahendi and we Indian girls love making these designs on the hands. It is 100% natural and give a good luk to the hands..... U can find a hena artist in every corner of India
I remembered growing up ..henna usually used on weddings because they said if the color was deep it kinda shows whether if you're a virgin or not,. It was like an old folk sayings here lol.... so mind you when I was about 8 and below when I saw the henna was not bright, the elder around me usually say "tsk tsk tsk.. I heard she had the henna for hours and it still not bright on her skin.... youngsters these days... " ...and I would go and ask my sister or mom about it.. that's how I knew about that old folk saying 😅😅 (and hennas back in the days was made from the leaves without essential oils and everything from what I remember)

Ask the person from the culture if they have a problem, don't go all " ITS CULTURAL APPROPRIATION"
K thnx byee
I get the point of cultural oppropriation, but it is just henna. It is perfectly fine to wear it even if your not indian. Poeple shouldnt be discriminating but imbrasing different cultures
I think you should try asain bridal makeup. It would be soo awesome and its is really beautiful

hey just fyi, there is also a similar product called jagua that is black in color and leaves behind a blue black stain. it ends up looking more like an actual tattoo, and its made from a different plant than henna. not sure about the chemical content because ive only looked into it casually, but its used more in my current city than henna
Love your channel, you clearly aknowledge that it is from a different culture but educate yourself and help us educate ourselves about what it is that you’re doing to yourself.

It might be the part of many cultures but this mehendi first invented from India 🇮🇳

that white henna design was amazing wow
This is so cool
I remembered growing up ..henna usually used on weddings because they said if the color was deep it kinda shows whether if you're a virgin or not,. It was like an old folk sayings here lol.... so mind you when I was about 8 and below when I saw the henna was not bright, the elder around me usually say "tsk tsk tsk.. I heard she had the henna for hours and it still not bright on her skin.... youngsters these days... " ...and I would go and ask my sister or mom about it.. that's how I knew about that old folk saying 😅😅
(and hennas back in the days was made from the leaves without essential oils and everything from what I remember)
Eos+ I heard that the darkness/deepness of henna color shows the love of your current/future SO towards you
