Pray Like Jesus Prayed This Holy Week

  • During Holy Week, as we contemplate the last hours of Jesus’ life, we get an intimate look at how Jesus prays to his Father.
Starting with our Lord’s prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane, we hear Jesus talking to God the Father about the upcoming moments of his life. He continues to pray through his Passion all the way until his last breath-a model that we as sons and daughters of God can follow as well. But what does Jesus show us about what it means to truly pray “Abba, Father”?

How can one possibly pray like the Lord Jesus prayed. He was alone, on the cross being made the sacrifice for sin and bearing the wrath for our sins in His body. Though He was God in His person, He was suffering as man for mankind. He was forsaken of God during those hours. He shouted FINISHED. The work of redemption was done. Christ then said 'Father into thy hands I commend my Spirit'. Then He dismissed His Spirit and entered into Death. God was satisfied. He raised Christ from among the dead by His glory and Christ now sits at the right hand of the throne of God, with the expression of that Glory on His face.
What a Man. What a Saviour is Jesus Christ my Lord.

Father, Jesus is not a fearful double minded son of God! He loved suffering to a folly! He is still suffering at this minute, imprisoned in the eucharist around the world. Those words had nothing to do with trust. The words regarding the chalice was the cry of the whole human family that echoed in Jesus' humanity. He was speaking in the name of all to give us strength. The reason we carry a cross is because our will is not the Father's will (since the fall of Adam). If we allow God's will to be our will, there is no cross. Hence the 'our father' prayer.

@@stingingnettle9726 You know, Ive got this question before and yes there is. God wants to share His creation with us and wants us to rely on Him and take part in it. His Will be done, but we also have free will. What will bring us to Heaven is when our will and His Will are the same.

    • @astroloxi8133

@@stingingnettle9726 , God's will is what He wants us to do in our life. Each of us have a vocation - a mission to fulfil which is why God has made each and every person. we can chose to do His will, which is what fills the human heart with joy. It can be hard because we are only humans which is why we ask God for His grace to help us.

    • @astroloxi8133
      @astroloxi8133 3 роки тому +1

@@stingingnettle9726 , to know what God asks of you, pray and tell Him you want to do His will. He has a plan for you and me, but also remember that God asks you to do the little things in each moment like help someone with their work, give them your time, talk to people that feel lonely etc. Try to live making these small tasks you spot in everyday life. When you do these things, you say 'yes' to God's will. You see, God talks to us through our conscience and through other people and through the Bible.
I'm sorry that you haven't felt joy in a long time but don't worry, soon things will be different. Remember that Jesus died for you and for all people and He did that because He loves us more than we can imagine. As fr Mike said, he's our Dad that will love us no matter what. Whenever I feel sad I find comfort in telling Him my sorrows because I know He listens. Thinking of how much He loves us and how happy we'll be when we finally see Him in heaven fills my heart with joy. Although many people look for joy in other places, God is the only source of true Joy and it is amazing!
There are videos on vocation and God's will in Ascension Presents that talk about this more btw
      I'll pray for you 😉

That one verse is the most excruciatingly painful passage to read.
Our saviour expressing a very human response to a terrible event that, in that moment, he dreads to go to. How real, how we understand that distress he feels.
Although the payment by blood was essential for our salvation, it's still a very painful event to meditate on.
We cannot take away his pain - yet he takes away all of our pain, misery & suffering.
    Hosanna in the Highest.
    Worthy is the Lamb.

Fr. Mike, I’ve been bedridden the past 2 weeks because of an unexpected surgery...and I’ve got to say, all this time staring at the ceiling and listening more intently to your videos has really enriched my faith. This video immensely blessed me as I always speak the words, “Abba, Abba” after the Fraction rite in the Mass. It has always consoled me to imagine myself again as a little girl with messy ponytails running to the altar, to God the Father - wobble, crawl, or limp if I have to. It is amazing to experience how God can take a surgery to remind me of what it means to be a dependent child of God, and how in the Mass we are called to celebrate with the uttermost joy. Thank you Fr. Mike for blessing me, for your ministry, and for your incredible love for the Lord!

Calling God "Father," "Dad" and so on .... is difficult for those of us who could never rely on our earthly father or dad. It wouldn't (and doesn't) move me to call Him Father or dad. It is hard to trust my heavenly Father when I could never trust or rely on my earthy one. I have never had a positive male role model on earth so it's difficult to feel like my Heavenly father cares for me. I keep trying, though. I pray all the time in the hopes He will hear me and provide some emotional healing. I do know that God is love ... I just feels He loves everyone but me. I have yet to have a man truly love me without leaving me, and I'm 47. This is a great, but difficult, topic for me. Thank you for tackling these topics. I hope it helps many. God bless you all

Hi! I don’t think you’ll ever see this but I’m a huge fan from Minnetonka, Minnesota and I had a quick question for you that’s been nagging at me lately.... what is the difference between a mistake and a sin? I know it may seem like a silly question but for me sometimes mistakes can seem more sinful than some sins and I can still feel really guilty about them. Just curious! Making a video about it would be great or just a simple answer too :) getting a response from you would make my year! I love your bible in a year podcast and throughout quarantine you’re what truly changed my spiritual life so thank you💕

This Holy Thursday perhaps consider reading John 17 when John speaks of Jesus praying to the Father for his disciples & the Church. Our Church needs a lot of prayer.

Remember what Jesus said: "Again, truly I tell you, if two of you on earth agree about any matter that you pray for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven" Can two of you agree that they want Coronavirus gone so people can stop dying?

Who is dying? No excess deaths from 2019 to 2021... 2 million supposedly left earth accompanied by some corona molecules. 18 million died of heart disease in the same time period.

@@granmabern5283 Ok, so two people haven't agreed that they want heart disease to go away either?
