  • **UNSCOPED** WRFM Stereo 105 New York - Larry Yount & Joe Roberts - March 31 1974
Update You Tube blocked this from being seen worldwide because of a couple of songs, so I had to edit them out, but the aircheck remains mostly unscoped.
Beautiful music air checks are hard to come by, so I am happy whenever I find one. This aircheck features New York’s Stereo 105 WRFM. The station started with the format in 1968, and it ran through the early 1980s. This 1974 aircheck features Larry Yount & Joe Robberts.
Feel free to check out some of the many other videos on the Ellis B Feaster's Radio Channel! Established in 2008!
One of You Tube's oldest RADIO AIRCHECK MUSEUM with a NEW VIDEO posted daily at 3PM EST.
After over 40 years working on the radio, I have recorded lots of radio airchecks, and many from my friends as well.
You'll find audio of many radio personalities who have passed away. Lots radio recordings from the 1940s, through the 2010.
We also talk about radio broadcasting. If you happen to have classic airchecks, maybe even of yourself on the air, we'd love to share it here!
We also share videos about Travel & Cruising. I share tips on how I travel cheaply, so you can do it also! Find me on Facebook: / ellisairchecks

The trouble with broadcasting is there are only a handful of frequencies. The internet is replacing broadcasting and cable so everyone can have what they want.

Larry Yount was the last dj on WRFM. In 1986 he signed off the station, played one of those wonderful TOH ids and then WNSR signed on

Oh do I miss this format! I grew up in the New York area and used to listen to WPAT, WRFM, and WVNJ whenever I needed some nice, relaxing music in the background. There's little on the radio that I care to listen to nowadays. I can still get the beautiful/EZ format on satellite radio, but, unfortunately, it and adult standards have gone the way of the dinosaurs on regular broadcast radio.

Prior to the debut of WKTU, this station and WXLO and WPLJ were the most listened to FM radio stations in the early to mid 70s. Then WBLS started to cook, and in the summer of 1978 WKTU went disco and owned New York City, fm was the new home of the music formats and a majority of radio listening.

Always loved the EZ format, even as a kid, especially when they ran jingles! And RFM had Anita Kerr jingles for many years. Absolutely terrific.

Thanks for posting this Mr. Feaster.. Brings back memories with my father listening to WRFM on the console stereo in our living room apartment in Queens NY. Is it me, or do Larry Yount and Joe Roberts sound very much alike? What great radio voices.. At 1:46 of this recording, Mr. Yount mentions "The sound of silence" by Paul Robinson's Orchestra. I cannot find this recording or any info on this orchestra.. If anyone does, please post..

Glad you enjoyed it. I did not appreciate this kind of radio back then. Whenever my mom had it on, all I wanted to do was to put on WABC. If only I had a time machine. I guess this is as close as we will get.

Hi Ellis, what a coincidence that KRFM was a beautiful Music station at 95.5 FM back in the 70's in Phoenix, AZ Since AZ is a retirement state they had a competitor KMEO FM. Beautiful music wars. My have times changed.

Ellis, I loved this station and listened all through the ‘70s. There was an instrumental version of Matchmaker Matchmaker that was played often and was one of my favorites. I can’t find it on Apple Music. It wasn’t by The Living Strings or The 101 Strings. Does anybody remember this particular version and which orchestra did it?

My dad was a broadcaster. I followed in his footsteps. I also had a portable DJ business when I was a teenager. I would've never told my friends this, but when I was alone, to escape the likes of Madonna and Kylie Mynogue, I jammed "Fog", WFOG FM 92 in Norfolk, VA. My parents started my love of this music by tuning in to the holiday music on WKEZ FM 95 in the same city years earlier.

Help I'm stuck in an elevator! LOL Actually this is the well-done Bonneville (aka Mormon Church) owed beautiful music programming. I worked at WCTO (FM) Smithtown NY briefly in 1971 & we had the Jim Schulke/Phil Stout beautiful music tapes. Wes Richards later would do afternoons on WRFM with one of the greatest voices of all time. Ditto Dick London. Both had been LI deejays/newsmen.

You are actually listening to the music as programmed by Marlin Taylor - the man considered to be the "Father of EZ Listening". Many of the tracks are still heard on Sirius-XM's "Escape" channel which he programmed until his retirement a couple of years ago. (At least I think they are... I dropped my subscription at about the same time!)

You can get the music elsewhere, this channel is for people who love radio and interested in listening to the legendary radio stations of the past, and get taken back in time by this airchecks. We listen for the programming elements and sound of the station, that who and what this channel is about, but you are more than welcome to enjoy it as we do, just don't expect it to be what it is not, we love it just the way it is.

@@donobrien1850 Who is "we"? Respectfully, you aren't speaking for everyone. Others like to relive the stations as they actually sounded - with the music intact. I didn't suggest not posting scoped 'checks, but posting unscoped checks elsewhere IN ADDITION to what you hear here. I understand that some want to concentrate on what's between the songs.

A lot of things would happen in the days ahead. Now You See It premiered on CBS daytime the next day, French President George Pompideau passed away the day after and a streaker ran behind David Niven at the Oscars that night. The next day saw numerous F-5 tornadoes in places like Brandenburg and Louisville, KY, Xenia, OH and another one in Northern Alabama. Three days later Sweden's ABBA won that year's Eurovision Song Contest in Brighton, England and were launched into the pop music stratosphere. The interval act, the Wellington Wombles, would appear on Captain Kangaroo soon after.
