2017 was my favorite year for many reasons, but most of all because of made in abyss, girl's last tour, and the ancient magus bride. All of which are in my top 10 and made in abyss being my absolute favorite.
Ive lingered in the GLT and MIA community for some time now and I love both. Glad to see a thorough comparison between the two! I hope this also helps fans of one to watch and enjoy the other :D
Thanks, yeah that’s definitely the aim. Glad to see it being well received by people who are fans of both shows, and it can convert a few from one to check out the other, then that’s even better.
In Winter 2018 season that followed Girls Last Tour, another show about two close potatoes going on adventures aired. Hakumei to Mikochi, sadly extremely underrated and overlooked, a work comparable to Moomins in its atmosphere. Its setting in a lush and lively forest provides extreme setting contrast to the artificial city of Girls Last Tour. It too, together with GLT forms a synthesis, almost a cathartic complement to one another. Anyone viewing or even reading GLT/SSR, consider watching/reading Hakumei to Mikochi after.
Got to admit, I've never heard of that one but your description has me looking it up and the visuals super charming. Might have to give that one a watch, thanks.
I'm speechless. i also felt like both felt complementary but never could put it into words, thank you. your videos are awesome and you deserve more subs
This video brilliantly communicated why I love both shows and how they intrigue the audience with it's world, characters and ideas. I hope one day we will see an adaptation to the last bit of GLT. Good job 👍
for me, glt has changed my perspective on how different authors interpret the world and how they choose to represent it. i could feel the kind of person that each writer was with how they explored and built them. as you've said, made in abyss focuses a lot more on itself, answering questions about its own world; while glt the answers don't matter, they don't really change anything. It's that difference in thinking thats so striking to me. it speaks to what the writers have lived through and what they value. one perspective is insatiable, its destructive and unhealthy. its a drive that will isolate and starve you. the other is content, its to accept what has happened and live for as long as you can, while you still can, because as long as you are alive, you will find your place. i dont really like made in abyss much
How have you managed to compare and contrast literally both my number one and number two favorite series', coulda sworn they had nothing to do with one another
Made in Abyss is my all time favorite anime, but I never heard of Girls' Last Tour until I watched your first video of this mini series. I watched the show over a few days and I'm so glad I did. So many of the aspects I love about MiA are present in the show.
Comparing MiA to GLT is like comparing big budget Oscar worthy action movie to Oscar worthy indie film MiA had it all!! best action, music, worldbuilding, voice acting, 13 episodes and a movie, 60+ on going chapters and god damn does this anime just keep on giving. And then there's GLT With wayyy less budget than MiA GLT just doesn't give a f*** and slam dunk MiA to the second place (my tier that is) The voice acting is not as intense... But damn does it warm or crumbles your heart everytime the VA speaks ... the music oh my God.... Every single OST and song in GLT gave Mr. Penkin a run for his money... The world building, just like the world of GLT the worldbuilding here is crumbling apart and left in ruin letting the audience just make it up as they want... And of course the small condensed story is what matters here... With only 12 episodes and 2 chapters left as continuation... GLT gave a perfect package as a small story... Everything that happened in GLT will either cheer you up or tear you heart out. And the last but not least.... The point of the anime... After you watch and read GLT you will appreciate what our current life gives no matter how good or shitty it is... All you got to do is just living it and if possible with someone you love with.
Great summary. I still stand by loving both shows equally, but yeah GLT has it all going on, I still listen to the soundtrack now. Such an underrated series.

Yeah, these two aren’t the only anime from 2017 I’ve enjoyed recently. I guess I’m 4 years late to the party but better late than never.
Magus bride is shit
Add Land of the Lustrous to that list. 2017 was an amazing year for both anime and gamers.
One is great. Other is some sort of sick fantasy
two of my favorites of all time synthisized in the most perfect way. amazing
Glad you think so, these two shows are something special.
Two of my most favorite anime in the same title, that's definitely a good sign.
Thanks. Hope I did them justice 🙏

Ah. My #1 and #2 anime being compared in the best ways
I'm speechless. i also felt like both felt complementary but never could put it into words, thank you. your videos are awesome and you deserve more subs
Thanks, I’m glad I’m not the only one who feels these two fit together.
This was my second anime ever and is still currently my number 1.
Edit: girls last tour was my second anime ever.
why is this so well done, wtf?
I don’t know lol
But thanks anyway

Wow, the production value for this video deserves at least a couple thousand views. You’re pretty underrated, great video.
Thanks, I had a lot of fun editing this video and the source material really helped. Glad you enjoyed it 👍

Great video dude thx for making this!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it

That’s some good taste right there.
I think watching them back to back helped draw some parallels, hope you got something out the video.
Awesome again.
Thank you. I appreciate you sticking it out for all 3

That’s awesome to hear. I absolutely love these shows, so if my videos helped to spread the appreciation for them, then they were worth making. Thanks
Made in Abyss and Girls Last Tour is one of the Best Anime/Manga ever created
But which one got the first rank tho?
Is it MiA or GLT
Comparing MiA to GLT is like comparing big budget Oscar worthy action movie to Oscar worthy indie film
